Chapter 1198: Chapter 1191: Participate in the Adventure
"Please stand up, don’t do this, allow me to consider it thoroughly," Zhuyan Yu helped him up, speaking somewhat helplessly.
"I implore Teacher Zhu to not turn this down, such a rare opportunity, if missed, who knows how long it will take before it comes again," Lu Changlin said.
"I will seriously consider it, please give me some time," Zhuyan Yu replied.
The main reason for Zhuyan Yu’s hesitation was that she couldn’t bear to give up on the project that had just made some progress.
Since Xia Yue had shared the secrets of magic with her last time, Zhuyan Yu had been immersed in her research, pouring through various ancient texts from the Otherworld and deducing the essence of magic.
Due to the lack of effective observation methods, she could only summarize the experiences of predecessors through such means to define magic and explore its internal working principles.
"Ah, if Teacher Zhu has an answer, please notify me immediately," Lu Changlin said gratefully, "This time the High-peak people are only here to extend an invitation, not to depart right away. On one hand, they are collecting information about the East Continent, and on the other, their Helrandum will take another year or two to take off. So, there is ample time to consider it. I ask Teacher Zhu to seriously contemplate it."
"I understand," Zhuyan Yu nodded.
Although there were still one or two years before departure, Zhuyan Yu knew that if she wanted to embark on an adventure to the East Continent, she had to start preparing now. She definitely couldn’t continue with her current work and had to find someone to inherit her research project to ensure it wouldn’t fall by the wayside.
After much thought, she felt that the only person who could inherit her project and continue the research was Nightingale. Although they didn’t meet often, they admired each other and had even jointly published several scientific papers on the Otherworld.
In Zhuyan Yu’s opinion, Nightingale’s composed personality and pursuit of the truth were the most suitable for taking over this project and deepening its research.
After sending Lu Changlin away, Zhuyan Yu sighed deeply. Although she had no objection to handing her project over to Nightingale, she still felt uneasy, as if she were unable to raise her own child and had to leave it in the care of someone else.
Dragging her weary body, Zhuyan Yu arrived at the entrance of the Otherworld Gate. However, she had barely reached the entrance and hadn’t even had the chance to show her credentials when she was immediately surrounded by an army of robots.
"Ms. Zhuyan Yu, your access has been frozen. Considering your physical condition, we will take compulsory measures to bring you to the hospital for treatment," the robot emitted a completely emotionless synthetic voice.
"Fine, fine, I’m scared of you guys," faced with this situation, Zhuyan Yu could only raise her hands in resignation.
"Please don’t raise your hands and cause unnecessary misunderstandings. You are not an enemy, nor are you captured," the robot kindly reminded her.
"I like doing hand exercises, what’s it to you!" a frustrated Zhuyan Yu retorted sharply.
She knew, though, that arguing with a robot was pointless, as it wouldn’t change its attitude because of her insults, so she was forcibly taken to the hospital by the robots.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Zhuyan Yu obediently followed the arrangements and was settled into a ward for recuperation. Just when she was feeling utterly bored, a visitor request suddenly came in. When she looked at the application, unexpectedly, it was from that guy Wang Xu.
"Long time no see, Teacher Zhu, it really feels like I haven’t seen you in over a decade," Wang Xu said in a teasing tone as soon as he walked in with permission granted.
"A lot has been happening lately!" Zhuyan Yu swiped through her tablet, searching for recent news.
"Anyway, Lipei managed to hold on," Wang Xu said as he sat down at her bed’s end, "Luo’er got hurt a few days ago."
"Is he all right?" Hearing this news, Zhuyan Yu paused, looked up at him and asked.
"Oh, he’s basically recovered now," Wang Xu shrugged.
"That’s good," Zhuyan Yu nodded, relieved, "What nonsense was that kid mixed up in this time?"
"It wasn’t Luo’er getting into trouble; trouble came to find him," Wang Xu explained.
Zhuyan Yu didn’t respond. Following the information provided by Wang Xu, she found the news about Luo’er’s mishap and squinted at it for a moment before turning with a frown and asking, "How are you managing Lipei, letting an armed assassin break into the Otherworld Gate?"
"Things were chaotic at the time," Wang Xu said helplessly with a shrug.
"Hmph..." Zhuyan Yu snorted, but said no more.
"Speaking of which," Wang Xu deliberately asked, "I heard someone tried to barge into the Otherworld Gate and was stopped by the mechanized guards. That was you, wasn’t it?"
"What do you mean ’probably’? Don’t ask questions you already know the answer to with feigned ignorance," retorted Zhuyan Yu discontentedly.
"Alright," Wang Xu said with a somewhat embarrassed nod, then inquired, "You were in such a rush to get to Lipei, what exactly did you want to do? I read in the report that your health is already quite weak."
"I have urgent matters!" Zhuyan Yu sighed.
"Can I know what they are?" Wang Xu asked tentatively.
Upon hearing his words, Zhuyan Yu glanced up at him. Regardless, she had worked with Wang Xu for many years and was fairly acquainted with the man before her.
So after a slight hesitation, she cleared her throat and spoke, "I have urgent business with Nightingale. If possible, I would like you to bring her to me."
"What kind of urgent business? Can you tell me?" Wang Xu asked.
"You know about the High-peak people, don’t you?" Zhuyan Yu responded with a question.
"I do. Their fleet is still hovering above Lipei," Wang Xu nodded in reply.
"They sent someone to invite people from the Science Academy to cooperate with them on an expedition to the Eastern Continent in search of the legendary East Continent. You know, most of the Academy’s scholars are from Earth; sending them on an adventure to the Otherworld would indeed be too much to ask of them," Zhuyan Yu explained with a sigh.
"So they turned to you?" Wang Xu’s heart skipped, as he suddenly remembered that Zhuyan Yu was now an Otherworlder.
"Yes, at present, the only ones they trust who are also from the Otherworld are Nightingale and I. I planned to go myself and have Nightingale take over my research," Zhuyan Yu revealed.
"What research?" Wang Xu inquired instinctively.
"Would you understand if I told you?" Zhuyan Yu asked irritably.
"I wouldn’t," Wang Xu admitted with a candid shake of his head.
"Then just go and call her over. Really," Zhuyan Yu said, shaking her head in resignation.
Wang Xu nodded, was about to move, then suddenly seemed to remember something and asked tentatively, looking at Zhuyan Yu, "Uh, I wanted to ask, that is, do you need a bodyguard?"
"What bodyguard, all this nonsense," Zhuyan Yu looked at him, utterly confused by the question.
"No, I mean, aren’t you planning to go on an expedition? Surely you need someone to protect you, right?" Wang Xu explained.
"I’m not going alone," Zhuyan Yu obviously still didn’t grasp his point.
"I know, so what I mean is... Look, if you go, you’ll be surrounded by High-peak people, and it won’t be convenient no matter what you do. Shouldn’t we assign a few people specifically to take care of you?" Wang Xu said patiently.
"I’m not a hothouse flower..." Zhuyan Yu started to say, then suddenly blinked, realizing what Wang Xu was trying to say, and, squinting her eyes, asked tentatively, "You want to send the Advance Team with me?"
"Yes," Wang Xu affirmed without any attempt to hide it. "You know, since Luo’er and the others returned, headquarters hasn’t planned any further deployments. But Luo’er can never sit still; it’s no good making him attend high-level meetings, he’s not suited for that. And if he has nothing to do, he tends to cause trouble. Right now, there’s nothing headquarters can do with him; they treat him like a lord, not daring to let him take on anything."
As he spoke, he let out a long sigh and continued, "Having looked after Luo’er as he grew up, I know him best. If he’s idle for a day, he feels restless all over. So I’ve been thinking whether we should find some light work to send them off on, to spare them the suffering of idling away in Lipei. Now, they’re basically out of the picture for dangerous missions, so I can only think of relatively safe alternatives or tasks where the risks are assessable."
"So, you want them to accompany me on the East Continent expedition, to get them out of Lipei and prevent them from coming down with ’boredom sickness’?" Zhuyan Yu asked tentatively.
