Chapter 1176 - 1169: Difficult to Shoulder a Heavy Responsibility
Chapter 1176: Chapter 1169: Difficult to Shoulder a Heavy Responsibility
According to the plan, Cheng Ziang’s side was to be responsible for special operations, looking for the rebel base opposing Lipei and capturing all their leaders to bring back to Lipei for trial.
Originally, Lin Wei had doubts about Cheng Ziang leading special operations, but Wang Xu spoke up for him time after time, convincing Lin Wei. After all, Cheng Ziang was indeed very capable; he not only found the mastermind behind the assassination attempt on Luo’er through careful investigation but also linked the attack on Luo’er with the attack on Lipei, identifying the true mastermind behind the entire event.
It could be said that without Cheng Ziang’s thorough investigation, headquarters would have likely spent a long time unable to identify the true source of the attacks, left to tirelessly respond to rescue calls.
Wang Xu returned to his office, summoned Cheng Ziang, and then asked, "Headquarters is planning to close the net, launching an attack to crush the enemy forces on one side and capturing all the rebels on the other. Li Si should have already told you about this, right?"
"Yes, she did," Cheng Ziang nodded.
"I’ve discussed it with the higher-ups, and I want you to take full charge of the capture mission. Put together a special operation and catch all the rebels. How about it?" Wang Xu asked.
"Eh, let me do it?" Cheng Ziang asked in surprise.
"Oh, Luo’er is still in the intensive care unit, unable to come out. And over these days, you’ve indeed demonstrated strong judgment and command abilities. I think you should be able to handle this kind of work," Wang Xu said.
In reality, Cheng Ziang knew his own flaws, such as not daring to make judgments lightly, which was why he was more suited to be an advisor, providing strategic counsel to the commander. This was also the reason why he always consciously felt inferior to Luo’er.
It was the same as before, though in some aspects Luo’er might not be as good as Cheng Ziang, he had a firm will and dared to take responsibility for his decisions. To Cheng Ziang, this was a valuable ability. He just needed to strategize, waiting for Luo’er to make the final decision.
Mustering the courage to take responsibility wasn’t something just anyone could do. Since the Advance Team had entered the Otherworld, they had experienced countless failures, most of which were due to Luo’er’s misjudgments. But to consider Luo’er merely incompetent was somewhat one-sided.
As mentioned before, Luo’er dared to take responsibility for his decisions, even when they were wrong, which was a very rare trait. Everyone makes mistakes, but not everyone has the courage to face them.
The reason the rest of the Advance Team seemed to make few mistakes was mainly because Luo’er was the one shouldering the blame for everything. Because of this, he’d been criticized by Wang Xu and headquarters quite a bit. If not for headquarters’ trust in him and the support of Wang Xu and others, he probably would have been sent back to Earth long ago.
Now, with Luo’er incapacitated, Cheng Ziang had no choice but to pick up the mantle and faced Wang Xu’s trust with a sense of panic and insecurity for the first time.
"I, I might..." Cheng Ziang began, visibly moved and struggling to speak.
"Give it a try. How would you know you can’t do it without trying?" Wang Xu seemed to know what he wanted to say and took over the conversation proactively.
"Instructor, you should know my personality..." Cheng Ziang said awkwardly.
"And you have so many friends, don’t you?" Wang Xu said with a smile.
"Friends..." Cheng Ziang started to say something but suddenly paused instinctively, as if something had come to mind.
That’s right, he would never dare to take on such a heavy responsibility lightly, which was why he needed Luo’er. But if he remembered correctly, besides Luo’er, there seemed to be another capable person in the Advance Team, hidden in the ranks. If Luo’er was unable to work, she would be an ideal candidate.
With this thought, he took a deep breath and then nodded firmly, saying, "Alright then, I’ll give it a try!"
"Good. You’re free to allocate resources as needed. On the day the final battle is launched, you will carry out the special operations, capturing all the masterminds behind the scenes. Remember, try to take them alive," Wang Xu instructed.
"Yes, mission guaranteed!" Cheng Ziang nodded vigorously, but from his tone, one could still hear the turmoil within him.
Leaving the office, Cheng Ziang hurried to find Tangmo, then led her to a quiet corner.
"What’s the matter? You look so troubled," Tangmo asked in confusion.
"I might need your... oh, wait, your sister’s help," Cheng Ziang said earnestly.
"Momo?" Tangmo asked tentatively.
"Yes!" Cheng Ziang nodded firmly.
"What do you want with her?" Although he was somewhat uncomfortable, Tangmo didn’t lose his temper and instead slightly frowned as he asked.
"I hope she can take charge and command the special operations action that headquarters is about to initiate!" Cheng Ziang said candidly.
"She can command special operations actions?" Tangmo asked with a look of disbelief.
"Asking like this, you clearly still don’t understand your sister well," Cheng Ziang said, shaking his head.
"That’s not what I meant; after all, coming from the same source, I am well aware of her capabilities," said Tangmo, shrugging his shoulders.
"I need her decisiveness because there are some decisions I might not be able to take responsibility for, so I need her judgement and decision-making. Don’t worry about her abilities; I will be assisting her on the side," Cheng Ziang said earnestly.
"Can’t I do it, why must you find her?" asked Tangmo, frowning and clearly unhappy.
"Mastery of special skills. In the realm of magic, your accomplishments are unparalleled by the Advance Team, and even your peers from the same period should clearly understand this. Looking over the Advance Team, besides Luo’er, the only one I can think of who has the necessary decisiveness is Momo. After all, when Luo’er was still around, didn’t she also help Luo’er make several decisions?" Cheng Ziang explained patiently.
"Ever since I found out that something happened to Luo’er, I haven’t let her come out. Aren’t you afraid that she might do something dangerous to avenge Luo’er once she’s out?" Tangmo asked.
"I believe she is a rational decision-maker, not an impulsive brute," Cheng Ziang said with a smile.
"What do you mean by that, are you saying I’m impulsive and she’s rational?" Tangmo asked, frowning.
"Don’t create problems where there aren’t any. At this critical juncture, we should be united against the enemy. If you’re so concerned about these things, do you still want to avenge your Luo’er?" asked Cheng Ziang patiently.
"Fine, let her come out then," Tangmo sighed deeply, then suddenly said, "I’ll make it clear, I’m going to take a break for a while. I can’t be bothered to limit her. If she stirs up any trouble, don’t come to me for it. Although we come from the same source, I don’t want to clean up her mess."
"That’s exactly why you can’t replace her," Cheng Ziang shook his head and lamented.
"What do you mean?" Tangmo seemed not to have heard what he said.
"Oh, nothing, just hurry up and let me see Momo," said Cheng Ziang, shaking his head.
"Ah..." Tangmo sighed deeply, then closed her eyes. When she opened her eyes, her entire demeanor had completely changed. However, without Luo’er present, no one could notice the change in her demeanor.
"Momo?" Cheng Ziang asked tentatively.
"I’ve heard all of your demands, so no more useless repetition. Tell me about your plan," said Tangmo coldly.
"I plan to transport several special forces teams to a designated area via air transport, and when the time is ripe, raid the rebel’s stronghold and arrest everyone," Cheng Ziang said.
"Just with a few special forces teams, you want to raid the enemy’s stronghold and capture them all?" Tangmo asked without even thinking.
"Yes," Cheng Ziang nodded.
"No way!" Tangmo shook her head and said.
"Why not?" Cheng Ziang asked, not understanding.
"There are too few of them!" Tangmo pointed out the biggest flaw in his plan.
"But they are all elite..." Cheng Ziang argued.
"Elite, heh..." Tangmo let out a cold laugh, then looked at him and said, "According to the current organization, a special forces team at most counts five people. A few teams are just about fifteen to twenty people. Relying on these few to raid the enemy’s stronghold, you don’t really think all these people are superheroes, do you?"
