Chapter 1138: Chapter 1131: Letter of Credence
"I have a question," Nightingale said after a moment of silence, speaking again.
"Go ahead." Xia Yue looked somewhat melancholic but still nodded.
"I want to know," Nightingale hesitated again before asking, "can gods... be killed?"
"Hehe, I knew you’re still worried about your sister," Xia Yue glanced at her and chuckled, shaking her head, "Don’t worry, as long as the crystal isn’t destroyed, your sister won’t die. As for Human Gods..."
Pausing for a moment and coughing slightly, she then said solemnly, "Even those who have become true gods can be killed. The most common and effective method of attack among gods is strangulation. Human Gods, who do not store their consciousness data in crystals, all rely on the magic power of the atmosphere to keep their consciousness data from dissipating. So, if you drain all the magic power from a specific area, the god would die due to the loss of this magic constraint and consequently data loss. Once the data is damaged, the god will fall. This is the method of dei*cide."
"There are no records of the Twilight of the Gods, but from past experiences, that war must have been gods strangling each other constantly," Xia Yue continued.
"How did you and Tana escape the Twilight of the Gods then? Aren’t you True Gods?" Nightingale continued to ask.
"As I said earlier, our Ancestor scientists sealed us away, maintaining us with the power of the Magic Crystals and reducing our power consumption to the minimum to ensure we wouldn’t be affected by the Twilight of the Gods," Xia Yue said, her face showing grief before she shook her head and sighed, "In fact, the Ancestors sealed many artificial intelligences, but in the end, only Tana and I awoke successfully. Our other brothers and sisters... never woke up."
"Does that mean you could kill Tana?" Nightingale asked.
"Yes." Xia Yue nodded.
"So, since you’ve replaced Tana as the god of this world, can I understand that you’ve already killed Tana?" Nightingale questioned.
"I haven’t killed her," Xia Yue said lightly.
"Why?" The answer from Xia Yue seemed unbelievable to Nightingale and the others.
"Is it strange," Xia Yue shrugged her shoulders and said, "I am a strong AI, not a cold, emotionless robot. I have my own feelings; that’s one reason. Keeping Tana is useful for this world. After all, I have other things to do and need someone to help me maintain the world’s order. That’s another reason."
"In principle, you could kill Tana, and Tana could also kill you?" Nightingale inquired after a pause for thought.
"Yes." Xia Yue nodded again.
"Then why hasn’t she made a move on you?" Nightingale asked with narrowed eyes.
Upon hearing her words, Xia Yue looked toward her, revealing a faint smile, and then said, "It’s simple because we are artificial intelligences, not humans who became gods. That’s the gap between us and Human Gods. We adhere to the rules set forth, never overstepping them, unlike Human Gods who act recklessly. Since the Ancestors stipulated that I can lead and bind Tana, it means Tana must unconditionally obey me and not attack me. Understand?"
"Understood?" Nightingale nodded, her doubts finally cleared.
She recalled all the efforts her father had made for the Creating God Plan. Now it seemed that the plan could never be achieved, for the gods left by the Ancestors firmly controlled the order of the world.
The last generation perished because of Human Gods, and these remaining AIs were meant to restrain the world’s order, to prevent another Twilight of the Gods that would destroy the world.
Actually, if one doesn’t consider the operation of the Otherworld Gate, the loss of magic power in the Otherworld would have no impact on Earth humans, and would even be more beneficial for their colonization. After all, if all the Otherworlders who could adapt to magic power died out, vast expanses of land would be waiting for Earth humans to colonize and occupy.
It was like a suddenly emptied lake, where all the fish that depended on the water died off, and now the land creatures began to thrive there.
But it is also necessary to be cautious, because lakes are, after all, lakes. If a heavy rain were to come suddenly, the lake could very well fill up again with water, and at that time, the land creatures would be drowned at the bottom of the lake.
The situation in the Otherworld is similar, as no one knows when magic might be restored. If magic were to return to normal levels, then the colonizing Earthlings would be in trouble.
And most importantly, all of this is just a pleasant assumption because once magic disappears, the Otherworld Gate that depends on magic to function would also come to a halt. At that time, the connection between Earth and the Otherworld would be completely severed, and Earthlings would no longer have the chance to set foot in the Otherworld.
Clearly, Xia Yue and Tana’s maintenance of the magical balance in the Otherworld was in some ways for the people of the Otherworld as well as for the Otherworld itself.
Because according to the story described by Xia Yue, the Otherworld is like a huge prison; unless one passes through the Otherworld Gate, its inhabitants could go nowhere else.
And what’s more fatal is that from the Ancestors to the present Earth scientists, no one knows how magic disappears or how it is restored. Once the magic of the Otherworld runs out again, the creatures there will face another round of reshuffling.
Even the powerful civilization of the Ancestors was completely wiped out in such a reshuffle, let alone the feudal nations of the Otherworld that exist now.
What Xia Yue aimed to do was to facilitate as much integration between the people of the Otherworld and Earthlings as possible before the great catastrophe arrived, enabling the people of the Otherworld to live on Earth. On one hand, she hoped they could escape this cage, and on the other hand, it was to prevent the extinction of species due to the next round of reshuffles.
Although Earth’s population is already quite large, Earth is about to enter the space age. At that time, people from the Otherworld could completely use the technological benefits of Earthlings to immigrate and explore the universe, without being confined to the Otherworld where they can’t even look up at the sky.
And the only gift that people from the Otherworld could give to Earthlings is probably Elves. In a way, Elves are like a token Xia Yue gave to Earthlings, so that Earthlings would accept the people of the Otherworld, these pitiful prisoners of the cage.
So, from this perspective, Xia Yue’s eagerness to launch the Elf Planet Project seems to be for the Earthlings, but is actually for the people of the Otherworld, for the Otherworld itself. After all, she is the maintainer of order in the Otherworld and is also a god to the people of the Otherworld.
"I have a question." Taking a deep breath and putting down her pen, Zhuyan Yu suddenly thought of a serious question.
"Ask." Xia Yue nodded lightly.
"Can you open the Otherworld Gate to connect to Earth at will?" Zhuyan Yu asked.
"Of course I can. The Ancestors left me most of the connection coordinates, and I can connect to any world that has already been explored at will," Xia Yue answered.
"Then, after Gate Two is opened, will you open more Otherworld Gates to connect to Earth?" Zhuyan Yu asked nervously.
Her nervousness was not without reason; after all, as a lieutenant colonel in the army, she represented national interests. If Xia Yue continued to open more Otherworld Gates, wouldn’t it benefit other countries as well?
"No!"
Xia Yue’s response immediately dispelled Zhuyan Yu’s concerns but also inevitably aroused her curiosity.
"Why," Zhuyan Yu asked somewhat sheepishly, "why won’t you open more Otherworld Gates? If you want to have contact with Earthlings, shouldn’t there be as many Otherworld Gates connected to Earth as possible?"
Xia Yue smiled faintly, then said leisurely, "Although I am an artificial intelligence, the lessons summarized by the Ancestors have given me a deeper understanding of human nature. Interest blinds people and leads to conflict and strife. When it comes back to the Otherworld Gate issue, the defects of human nature mean that more gates are not necessarily better. Right now, your Earth has not established a unified confederation; blindly opening more Otherworld Gates would lead to more Earth nations fighting over this world, leading to more unnecessary wars. So rather than giving all Earth nations the power to connect to this world, it is better to transfer this privilege to a reliable national power, which is the best strategy."
"So you chose us?" Zhuyan Yu asked.
"Hehe..." Xia Yue didn’t directly answer her question but just chuckled softly and no longer paid attention to her.
