Chapter 1132: Chapter 1125: Old Friends Meet
When facing Luo’er, Xia Yue always seemed to exhibit a great deal of patience, unlike her interactions with Li Si. It seemed that, in her eyes, Luo’er’s persistent engagement was hardly a bother but merely small talk during leisure moments.
The airboat headed north through the clouds. Although it was a combination of Earth’s technology and Otherworld magic, its speed was still a concern. As Xia Yue had said, without breaking through the essence of magic, the people of the Otherworld couldn’t conduct deeper research, and thus, the level of magic technology was limited to this.
Just as Luo’er had expected, even though the airboat significantly hastened their travel, it still had its limitations and required refueling. It took them about twelve days to journey from the distant Divine Wood Down to the outskirts of Yazhi City.
The headquarters, in order to expand their influence in the south, had leased several airboats. These airboats were mostly commercial models, ranging from the oldest to the most recent models, thus their speeds varied. The newer models were faster, whereas the older ones were no different than walking.
This time, the airboat stopped in Yazhi City partly for supplies and partly to board the key personnel, then headed directly for Lipei.
Xia Yue willingly helped them activate the Otherworld Gate, which was something headquarters was very eager for. Therefore, all the scholars related to the research were boarded, while others waited at Shenghua Academy for the Otherworld Gate to open, turning a formidable barrier into a thoroughfare between two worlds.
Now, the number of scholars in magic research that the headquarters could provide was not many, primarily consisting of two women, one being Nightingale and the other being Zhuyan Yu, who had transformed into an Otherworld person physically.
Of course, it also included the newly joined Axia. Overall, however, the research team was primarily led by Nightingale and Zhuyan Yu.
"Stand at attention, salute!" As soon as Zhuyan Yu boarded, she was welcomed by the lined-up Advance Team. After all, as a Lieutenant Colonel in the army, Luo’er certainly wouldn’t dare to slight her.
"Stand at attention? It’s like we’re making a big deal out of nothing." Seeing Luo’er acting all serious, Zhuyan Yu helplessly shook her head but still returned the salute.
Nightingale still maintained a lazy demeanor, draped in a black cloak and holding a thick book, she slowly made her way to Luo’er. Seeing this, Li Si hurriedly approached her and asked caringly, "Do, do, do you need me to help you...?"
Nightingale didn’t speak, just glanced at him and quickly shifted her gaze, reaching out her hand to Luo’er. Although she didn’t utter a word, Luo’er knew her intentions well.
He removed the pendant that sealed Fulajie’er from around his neck and handed it to Nightingale. Whether it was the residual warmth from Luo’er or the joy of being reunited with her sister, Nightingale’s pale face gradually blushed.
While Luo’er was distracted, Zhuyan Yu sneakily approached him from behind and suddenly embraced him. Luo’er was so startled that his whole body shivered, and he turned around and stammered, "Zhuyan, Zhuyan Colonel..."
"What did you call me?" Zhuyan Yu asked, tilting her head.
"Teacher Zhu, please don’t..." Luo’er immediately blushed, mumbling with his head lowered.
"Luo’er really hasn’t changed at all, I’ve always wanted to do this." Zhuyan Yu squinted her eyes, enjoying the sensation of embracing Luo’er. It seemed, in her eyes, Luo’er still had that beloved, delicate porcelain doll appearance from long ago.
"Ah, Teacher Zhu, Sister Zhu, let go quickly, you can’t hold Luo’er like this!" Tangmo saw this and immediately got jealous, pulling at Zhuyan Yu’s arm and shouting.
"Yue’er, what are you spacing out for? Luo’er is about to be taken away by Teacher Zhu." Tangmo turned and called out to Baiyue.
"Oh, oh!" The somewhat at a loss Baiyue quickly stepped forward, grabbing Zhuyan Yu’s other arm.
"It’s really a case of three women in one show..." A somewhat unable to watch Cheng Ziang helplessly shook his head, though he was hardly any better off.
Just as he lowered his head, a swift figure rushed toward him, seizing him in an embrace while he was off guard.
"Dear apprentice, missed your old man, huh?"
Yalunte’s burly voice came from beside his ear, startling Cheng Ziang, who forcefully pushed him away, glaring at him and asking, "Old what, you trying to give us away?"
"Sorry, sorry." Realizing he had slipped, Yalunte quickly covered his mouth, and Cheng Ziang took the opportunity to push him away forcefully.
"You seem to have been pretty idle recently?" Cheng Ziang gave him a sidelong glance, patting his clothes and asking.
"Idle? I’m out there training new recruits every day, working myself to death." Yalunte complained bitterly, showing Cheng Ziang his stubble-covered chin, looking like an old mischief-maker.
"Training what exactly?" Cheng Ziang pressed his hand against his face and pushed him back as he asked.
"Mobility gear, what else?" Yalunte shrugged and said.
"Is there no one left at headquarters, why do they always send you to teach mobility gear?" Cheng Ziang asked, puzzled.
As a new generation of magic technology, Cheng Ziang found it hard to associate it with an old swordsman over fifty.
"Those little arms and legs of theirs, they’d break a leg just falling from a meter high, who else could be fit for the job but me?" Yalunte spread his hands, his face seemingly carrying an invincible expression.
"You look pretty pleased with yourself, seems like you haven’t suffered much," Cheng Ziang shook his head and said,
"What do you mean I haven’t suffered? I haven’t seen my... apprentice... in so long..." Yalunte almost slipped up, but Cheng Ziang’s warning look made him correct himself immediately.
"You this guy..." Cheng Ziang sighed helplessly.
"I heard you went to Snow Domain, did you dig up our family’s ancestral tomb?" Yalunte suddenly thought of something and asked.
"How did you know?" Cheng Ziang asked, his face looking somewhat ugly.
"Didn’t you guys send a letter to headquarters?" Yalunte said.
Upon hearing this, Cheng Ziang was startled, but he quickly reassured himself. If he remembered correctly, Yalunte and Nightingale were the only two from Otherworld who could access the core secrets of headquarters, being elder level figures after all.
"We didn’t do it on purpose, it just happened..." Cheng Ziang scratched his head and said.
"Eh, I’m not blaming you, actually, I’m not even clear where our family tomb is," Yalunte waved his hand and said.
"Really a filial son..." Cheng Ziang was at a loss for words.
"I want to tell you," Yalunte coughed and said, "Our family has been passing it down from generation to generation, that Liseya, might just be your direct great-grandmother."
"Really?" Cheng Ziang was stunned for quite a while before it dawned on him. He had always wondered why Liseya was so friendly to him; it turned out he was not only her descendant but also her direct descendant.
"Why would I lie to you," Yalunte said, and looked around deliberately, then whispered to him, "In a few days, I’ll make a trip to Snow Domain and invite your great-grandmother over, specifically to protect you."
"You can save it. Great-grandma is living well there, you just have to go and disrupt her life, you really are a filial son," Cheng Ziang waved his hand and refused.
"The elder has passed, protecting the descendants is the duty of the ancestors," Yalunte said righteously.
"Where did you learn that term, so literary," Cheng Ziang teased.
"Don’t change the subject, once I bring great-grandma over, life will be much easier for you," Yalunte said.
"Do you know how powerful great-grandma is? She kills without blinking an eye. If I’m not careful, she could wipe out all living creatures within two kilometers. I definitely don’t want such a nuclear bomb by my side, if you bring her over, then you’re no longer my dad," Cheng Ziang refused repeatedly.
"Is it that serious?" As soon as Yalunte heard Cheng Ziang’s words, he became visibly flustered.
"Alright, go back to being a training instructor, stop coming up with bad ideas every day!" Cheng Ziang waved his hand dismissively.
Although it had been some days since he’d seen Yalunte, seeing him so lively and energetic reassured Cheng Ziang.
"I’ll go to Lipei with you guys," Yalunte said, shamelessly insisting.
"Who approved that?" Cheng Ziang asked.
"Hmm, no approval needed!" Yalunte said proudly.
