Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 1120 - 113: Jealousy and Envy
Chapter 1120: Chapter 113: Jealousy and Envy
It is worth mentioning that if a trafficker kidnapped Night Elves, they would equally be charged with a severe crime, and the liberated Night Elves would be expelled from the country; the same was true on Xia Yue Island.
Despite being adversaries, both sides adhered to certain agreements in cracking down on the slave trade, which could also be considered a form of humanitarianism.
Although there were roads, the speed of the horse-drawn carriage could not be increased. The carriage rented by the Advance Team had only three horses, both carrying people and hauling goods, so the speed really could not be increased.
Fortunately, the forests of Ilanadale generally lacked neither shrubs nor grasslands, so there was no need to worry too much about the horses’ fodder, only the portion for the humans needed to be carried.
Xia Yue’s physiological characteristics were very unique; her metabolism seemed to be very slow, and therefore, she did not need to eat much food. The others in the Advance Team still needed two meals a day, but she only needed one meal, irrespective of whether it was meat or vegetables.
However, the downside was evident, she seldom moved, and most of the time, she would sit quietly in the carriage, pondering. Sometimes, besides eating, she could even maintain the same posture all day long.
Even when she did move, her movements were rather slow, always giving off the impression of a frail young lady who had lived a sheltered life.
Although Xia Yue was a god, her physical body still could not break through biological limits. Even though her original form was a mass of flesh, she was fundamentally a carbon-based life form and still needed to consume other carbon-based life forms to maintain bodily functions.
On the afternoon of the fourth day, the group set up camp in a clearing by the road, planning to stay overnight before setting off again.
This place was located deep in the Ilanadale forest, with tall trees that blocked out the sun. Due to the tree crowns shielding sunlight, there were not many bush plants on the ground, but rather a thick layer of fallen leaves and humus.
The tall broad-leaved trees locked in the sunlight and heat at a height of several tens of meters, so it was quite cool between the trees, even under the blazing sun, it was quite cool under the trees.
The Advance Team tidied up the campsite and started a fire at the campfire spot. It was a traditional campsite, somewhat akin to a motor inn. Therefore, there was continuous construction from passing travelers’ caravans; aside from lacking houses and shops, it was not much different from a rest area.
The group’s dinner was jerky stewed with potatoes. Luo’er fried the jerky with thick animal fat until it was crisply fragrant, then added diced potatoes, and cooked it with water from a nearby stream. After more than an hour of effort, they made a pot of deliciously fragrant jerky and potatoes stew, served with rice.
Potatoes and rice were both cash crops imported from Earth to the Otherworld. During these thirty-plus years of contact, although Earthlings were domineering, they also provided help to the Otherworld’s development as much as they could.
The most significant contribution was helping the residents of the Otherworld solve their food crisis. Various cash crops from Earth were introduced to the Otherworld, causing a rapid increase in the Otherworld’s population over these thirty years.
Although the Otherworld still needed to import food from Earth on a large scale, this was mainly due to the consequences of uncontrolled population growth. Fundamentally, as the population of the Otherworld increased, the food crisis was alleviated, and the merit of the Earthlings was undeniable.
Generally speaking, when advanced civilizations come into contact with primitive civilizations, the latter inevitably gets exploited by the former, but at the same time, they also receive gifts from the advanced civilizations. Furthermore, not all Earthlings are exploiters; some sincerely wish to help the development of the Otherworldians.
"Lady Xia Yue, please," Luo’er said respectfully, bringing a plate of potato soup-covered rice to Xia Yue.
"It seems you have been busy these days," Xia Yue said with a smile as she took the plate.
"It’s just some trivial matters, not worth mentioning," Luo’er said modestly, lowering his head.
"To capture a person’s heart, one must capture their stomach. I think I understand why these people are so devoted to you," Xia Yue said laughingly while leisurely mixing her rice.
"That’s too kind of you," Luo’er nodded slightly, then continued, "If Lady Xia Yue is still hungry, please call me, and don’t starve yourself."
"Don’t worry, I won’t go hungry," Xia Yue said confidently, "I can eat meat on top and grass below, as long as it’s a living creature from this world, I can eat, oh no, I mean devour it."
"It’s not very elegant to eat like that. If Lady Xia Yue is still hungry, it’s better to call for me," Luo’er said impassively.
"Hehehe, when did you become so eloquent," Xia Yue laughed happily and then reached out to touch Luo’er. But like a reflex, Luo’er instantly dodged away.
"What, afraid I’ll stab you?" Xia Yue asked.
"Xia Yue, please don’t always make these kinds of jokes," Luo’er said, biting his lip.
"Relax, I’m not a demon; I just want to check your body condition, extend your hand quickly," Xia Yue said, waving her hand reassuringly.
Luo’er looked at her and, after hesitating for a moment, decided to comply, extending his hand uneasily. Xia Yue grabbed his wrist in an instant, her fingers piercing into his skin.
Luo’er frowned as he stared at his wrist. Xia Yue’s puncture wasn’t painful, but there was a swelling, numbing sensation. He indeed still wasn’t accustomed to the feeling of his body being invaded.
"It looks like your body has almost recovered," Xia Yue remarked, tilting her head with a sly look as she asked with a smile, "How about I implant a part of my body into you, turn you into a form like mine?"
"I’ll pass," Luo’er refused without hesitation while abruptly pulling his hand back.
"But it grants immortality!" Xia Yue continued to tempt.
"Life’s limitations teach us to cherish it," Luo’er remarked and walked away without looking back.
"Hehehe..." as Luo’er walked away, Xia Yue revealed a knowing smile. Since she had read all of Luo’er’s memories, how could she not understand him? So, she was just teasing him.
When Luo’er returned to the campfire, he saw Tangmo staring in dismay and asked with a wry smile, "What’s wrong now, didn’t like the food?"
"No, it’s seeing certain people that puts me off my food," Tangmo said, glancing at Xia Yue.
"You this..." Luo’er began to speak, only to be interrupted by Ziang nearby.
"You eat women’s jealousy, men’s jealousy, and now even divine jealousy?" Cheng Ziang teased.
"What do you know? She clearly wants to tease Luo’er," Tangmo said morosely.
"And then?" Cheng Ziang asked, shrugging his shoulders.
"And then," Tangmo began, suddenly saying angrily, "I rarely come out, and just my luck, I run into this mess, and Luo’er is focusing all his attention on another woman, how can I not be angry?"
"It was just an academic discussion," Luo’er explained.
"I don’t like her..." Tangmo muttered, staring at Xia Yue.
"So what do you want, to drive her away?" Cheng Ziang asked, shrugging.
"Can’t you stop always disagreeing with me?" Tangmo asked discontentedly.
"Can’t you be a bit more mature, not always acting like an ignorant little girl, always being jealous of this person or that person? You’re already in your twenties, can’t you be a bit more practical like Yue’er?" Cheng Ziang retorted sharply.
"You..." Tangmo was left speechless by his words.
"Alright, alright, there’s no need to argue over this. Xia Yue is our guest, and we must treat her with courtesy regardless. Momo, no matter how much you dislike her, you’ve grown up, you should learn to control your temper," Luo’er said seriously, "In my interactions, I always treat others with respect, regardless of gender. If you’re always jealous like this, it just shows you haven’t changed one bit; you still don’t trust me."
"I didn’t mean that..." Tangmo, seeing Luo’er’s stern gaze, hung her head, her voice much weaker.
Suddenly, Baiyue, feeling uncomfortable watching this, stepped up and said, "Luo’er, don’t talk to Sister Momo like that. It’s rare for her to come out, and you’ve been ignoring her, so it’s natural she feels upset."
