Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 1091 - 1084: Both Sides Suffer
Chapter 1091: Chapter 1084: Both Sides Suffer
On one side was a downpour, and on the other, a massive beast lurked in the abyss, and Luo’er felt that inevitable despair once again.
He recalled the future he had once foreseen and couldn’t imagine how he had escaped such dire straits and arrived at the prophesied day.
He looked up at the sky, with raindrops the size of soybeans pattering against his face, making it hard for him to keep his eyes open. He couldn’t help but recall the advice of his mother and Wang Xu’s words to him before he left the base.
"Deepwater Bomb is loaded and ready for launch!" Cheng Ziang’s shout snapped Luo’er out of his confusion.
For some reason, Cheng Ziang’s recent words suddenly popped into his mind. Heaven doesn’t save people, people must save themselves. Yes, that’s right, heaven doesn’t save people, people must save themselves—and besides, Tana isn’t heaven.
Otherworld certainly has magic, but even magic must follow certain rules, so he couldn’t believe that the Leviathan lurking in the abyss wouldn’t be afraid of the explosion of a Deepwater Bomb.
"Distance twenty, depth fifty, deploy two rounds of Deepwater Bombs!" Luo’er pointed in the direction where the Leviathan was lurking and commanded loudly.
"Received, distance twenty, depth fifty, deploying Deepwater Bombs!" Cheng Ziang loudly repeated his command, then forcefully pulled the release lever.
Two Deepwater Bombs were consecutively thrown into the rough sea, and then slowly sank to the seabed. Soon after, two muffled thumps were heard from the ocean floor, and everyone only felt the ground under their feet shake violently twice, even feeling the merchant ship shift across the sea surface for a distance.
Then, two massive columns of water shot up into the sky; among the flurry of foam, a hint of a different color indicated they had hit their target accurately.
"Yeah!!!" The crew cheered again as they saw the turbulence in the water turning murky, indicating the Leviathan might have bled just like the previous one.
"Luo’er, it’s surfacing, it’s angry, be careful!" At that moment, Luo’er heard Fulajie’er’s cry of alarm.
Hearing the alert, Luo’er immediately commanded Cheng Ziang loudly, "Enemy retaliating, keep deploying, keep deploying, don’t stop, all units prepare to engage!"
"Received, continue deploying, all units prepare for combat, ready to engage!" Cheng Ziang loudly repeated, and simply threw the remaining Deepwater Bombs into the sea,
With each Deepwater Bomb that entered the water, high waves were stirred up. Meanwhile, the sailors hurried to the ship’s side, guns ready, poised to strike the Leviathan the moment it appeared.
"Are we nearing the shipping lane?" Luo’er turned and loudly asked Wadulan.
"Soon, very soon, don’t worry, we’ve entered the shallow zone, almost reaching the traditional shipping lane!" Wadulan reported loudly.
"Moumou, push hard!" Luo’er nodded his head and commanded Tangmo loudly, who stood at the ship’s stern.
While chanting spells, Tangmo didn’t stop but nodded forcefully and continued to drive the magic. With her efforts, the merchant ship was moving swiftly toward the shallow sea lane.
Several Deepwater Bombs were dropped into the water and detonated one after another. Though they didn’t know if they had missed their target, the explosions sent vibrations through the ship, making it feel like they had blown the Leviathan up, as if they were shooting into the fog.
After two rounds of bomb explosions, suddenly, high water columns erupted from the sea. Upon closer inspection, the crew realized these weren’t from the explosions, but rather a tentacle had surged up from the ocean floor.
This wasn’t the first time the Advance Team had seen such a thing. Previously, at the Door of Annihilation, Neptios from another world was a tentacled monster.
The skin of this tentacle was very rough, covered with barnacles, showing none of the slippery texture typical of sea creatures. The tentacle seemed to be wrapped around something, and after emerging from the sea, it directly threw that thing over.
By this time, the sailors waiting by the ship’s side had already loaded their guns. On seeing something dark flying towards them, they didn’t hesitate and opened fire immediately.
A dozen people fired simultaneously and the object in mid-air was hit by bullets, releasing sounds of metal clashing and tearing. Upon seeing the object flying in the sky, Luo’er’s legs went weak, nearly causing him to fall.
"Stop firing, stop firing, it’s a Deepwater Bomb!" Luo’er screamed with all his might. Hearing his cry, the members of the Advance Team had no time to think, they dropped to the ground in fright, holding their heads.
Cheng Ziang wasn’t so flustered, and instead rolled behind some cover, shouting at the top of his lungs, "Stop firing, cease fire, everyone cease fire!!"
In the sky, the Deepwater Bomb, albeit hit by several bullets, didn’t land on the ship but fell into the water next to it.
However, soon after, a tremendous explosion was heard. The crew felt the merchant ship violently shift about five or six meters to one side while a profound shock wave hit them.
This inertia caused chaos on deck, and many people were thrown into the water, including Luo’er. He was pulled by the force directly from the mast into the water, plunging nearly five or six meters down, and continued to sink.
In the water, Luo’er saw another Deepwater Bomb detonate at the deep sea floor, and when the shock wave hit, he also thought he heard Leviathan’s agonizing scream.
The shock wave tossed him around in the water several times. Since he hadn’t expected to enter the water, his lungs weren’t prepped with air, and he now felt a desperate need for oxygen.
"Luo’er, Luo’er, are you dead?" The chaotic voice of Fulajie’er sounded in Luo’er’s mind.
Though he was muddled, his thoughts were still clear. As members of the elite Advance Team from the headquarters, it was unthinkable that they would die so suffocatingly, not to mention the training they had received or the equipment they had, which sufficed to address the dangers at hand.
So, the calm Luo’er forcefully picked at a device strapped on his left wrist, and then pulled the ring on it. A muted explosion sounded, and a huge balloon suddenly inflated, dragging Luo’er rapidly towards the surface of the sea.
The balloon, the size of a watermelon, rose so fast that Luo’er choked on several mouthfuls of water. Finally breaking the surface, he clung to the balloon floating on the sea and forcefully blew the seawater from his nostrils.
Only then did he have a chance to witness the dire situation at sea. One side of the merchant ship had been blown open by a huge hole, and sea water was steadily flooding in; the ship’s sinking was now only a matter of time.
On the sea surface, sailors were scattered everywhere, some lying on floating pieces of wood, looking around blankly. Luo’er saw that several small boats had been launched before the ship sank; people in these boats were now rowing towards their comrades in the water.
"Fula, check if that creature is dead and then find the other team members!" Seeing this tragic scene, Luo’er felt an inexplicable panic, then he looked up and shouted loudly.
"What about you?" Fulajie’er asked, worried.
"I’m not going to die!" Luo’er’s tone was already rather frantic.
"Understood..." Knowing she had touched a nerve, Fulajie’er didn’t dare to say more, only acknowledged and then disappeared.
Luo’er, holding the survival balloon, watched sadly as the Ride the Wind ship slowly sank into the water, observing the sailors struggling to survive. At this moment, he felt immensely guilty.
"It’s Luo’er, it’s Luo’er, row over here, it’s Luo’er!!" At that moment, a desperate cry came from not far away. Luo’er followed the sound and saw that the members of the Advance Team had safely boarded the small boats and were now rowing towards him.
He stared blankly at the boats, suddenly noticing that the light seemed to have gotten brighter. He looked down at his hands and then lifted his gaze to the sky. Unbeknownst to him, the dark clouds had dissipated, and the blue sky was now again bathed in sunlight.
He turned to look back at the sky they had come from, where the sky remained densely clouded, with occasional flashes of lightning. This formed a stark contrast to the sky they were under now, as if there was an invisible barrier in the sky, holding back the clouds and thunder behind them.
