Chapter 1089: Chapter 1082: Hunting Sea Beasts
"Fula," in the urgency of the moment, Tangmo commanded loudly, "Go up and help Luo’er, don’t let him climb any higher!"
"Eh, wasn’t I supposed to blow the sails?" asked Fulajie’er.
"No need for you, I’ll do it. I am a mage, and you should go help Luo’er. That way you can use your true abilities," Tangmo said.
"Oh, I understand, then I’ll go," Fulajie’er didn’t mind being hurried around, as she was more concerned about everyone’s safety in such a critical situation.
"Luo’er," just as Luo’er had climbed halfway and was holding onto the mast, Fulajie’er’s voice reached his mind, "I’m here to help you."
"Weren’t you supposed to blow the sails?" Luo’er asked.
"The bad woman can blow, I’m here to help you. I feel you might need me," Fulajie’er seriously replied.
"Alright, go scout Leviathan’s movements and report back to me at any time!" Luo’er nodded, and didn’t insist on the previous arrangement.
"Yes, I’ll go right now!" Fulajie’er responded, and then left Luo’er’s side.
After sending Fulajie’er away, Tangmo began trying to blow the sails. She stood at the stern, trying to secure her footing, then raised her magic wand and started chanting.
Thanks to her efforts, a stream of air appeared out of nowhere, following her guidance straight towards the ship’s sails. For a moment, the sails were almost blown apart. The merchant ship jerked forward, nearly causing everyone on board to fall to the ground.
The Wind Sect magic Tangmo used was learned from the Sacred Heart Magic Academy. It was actually a relatively basic form of magic, just that compared to spells, the Rune Magic Circle was a bit more complex.
The basic principle of Wind Sect magic was similar to targeted detonations and the advanced version, Radiant Singularity. Both guided the flow of magic to achieve certain effects.
However, unlike the aforementioned magic, when Wind Sect magic guides the flow of magic, it converts some of the structure of the magic. Specifically, it links the atomic structures of magic together, forming webs. These webs then capture other atomic structures to follow their movement, creating disturbances in the airflow.
In the Otherworld, because the atmosphere contains both magic and air, disturbances in the air are generally called wind, and disturbances in magic are usually referred to as magical fluctuations or magical waves, but the essence is the same.
The difference is that while wind cannot affect the distribution of magic, magic can influence the flow of wind. Therefore, magic does not move with the wind, making its distribution in the atmosphere very even. It doesn’t easily converge or disperse in any particular area, making it a very stable phenomenon.
This is also the basis for Magic Power Sensing: because magic does not flow with the air currents, if a mage can sense the movement of magic, there definitely is some magic-related activity nearby. Otherwise, in the natural environment, magic wouldn’t easily show any disturbances.
Wind cannot affect magic, but magic can easily influence the wind. The Forbidden Curse Radiant Singularity, when magic converges and then explodes, it carries the air in violent motion and friction, thereby generating light and heat. This is why Radiant Singularity, when it spreads, appears to have an explosive effect.
Despite the seemingly limited applications of Wind Sect magic in theory, it is actually quite a dangerous form of magic. The wind is carried by the flow of magic, so as the wind moves, magic particles also flow, creating streams of magic particles.
These particle streams have almost zero harm to the human body and have no effect on mages. But, with sufficient quantity, they can create a qualitative change. Although still not enough to threaten a talented mage, they can harm those with low magical aptitude, such as Earthlings.
So, when Tangmo was engaging Wind Sect magic to raise the sails, in fact, the sails were also enduring the penetration of magic particle streams. Of course, the main effect was still created by the wind.
Incidentally, Wind Sect magic has another important use, which was only recently confirmed, that is, aeronautical power systems. The latest air warships of the High-peak Dwarves primarily use engines made from this theory of Wind Sect magic.
The theory I mentioned before still applies here, so I’ll briefly go over it once more. The Wind Sect’s vortex fan engine essentially still relies on wind power for propulsion. It hasn’t seen the kind of generational leap like Earth’s propeller planes and jet planes, so there are limits to how much the power system can be enhanced.
However, this is already the most advanced aerial engine in Otherworld. If the people of Otherworld cannot explore the rules of the Magic World and study the essence of magic, then they are doomed to never achieve a technological breakthrough like the people of Earth.
Whether Otherworld can produce advanced technology like Earth certainly has an affirmative answer, because to date, even people from Earth have been enjoying the legacy left by the Ancestors. In the era of the Ancestors, Otherworld’s technology even surpassed that of Earth, but it was destroyed in the conflicts among the Gods.
Back on the ship, with the aid of Wind Sect magic, the few sails on the merchant ship billowed out, and the ship quickly sailed forward. Wadulan struggled to control the ship’s rudder, attempting to steer the vessel back onto the traditional shipping lanes.
On the other hand, based on Fulajie’er’s real-time reports, Luo’er roughly grasped the whereabouts of the Leviathan. According to Fulajie’er, it was a medium-sized Leviathan, of course, how big ’medium-sized’ actually was, that was a question only she could answer.
The Leviathan clearly showed immense hostility toward the merchant ship, not the kind that comes from having its territory invaded. As for the reason, Luo’er knew all too well.
Several muffled sounds rang out again from the deck, mortar shells were fired high into the air and then plunged into the water, setting off a continuous series of explosions, each causing plumes of water to shoot upward.
However, despite the best efforts of the Advance Team, the Leviathan seemed unfazed. According to Fulajie’er’s report, it was still slowly approaching the merchant ship and had already prepared to launch an attack.
"Prepare to drop the deepwater bomb!" Hearing Fulajie’er’s report, Luo’er removed his binoculars and shouted commands below.
Cheng Ziang was already prepared, so upon hearing Luo’er’s command, he turned his head and shouted back, "Ready to drop the deepwater bomb at any moment."
"Fifty meters distance, thirty meters depth, drop the bomb!" Luo’er ordered loudly.
"Roger that, fifty meters, depth thirty, deepwater bomb away!" Cheng Ziang yelled back, and after setting the parameters, he pulled the release lever with force. A deepwater bomb was propelled high by the spring’s tension and then fell into the ocean.
The bomb caused a huge splash as it hit the water; after a brief silence, suddenly, a thunderous explosion burst from the depths of the sea. The violent shaking that followed made everyone’s legs go numb.
Unlike the weak payload of the deepwater shells, the power of the deepwater bomb was much greater, ejecting even higher and larger columns of water. Luo’er believed that such an explosion, which could tear apart even the steel giants beneath the sea, would certainly be unbearable for the Leviathan.
Sure enough, not long after the water column dissipated, swathes of dark red blood surfaced. It turned out the Leviathan’s blood was also red, just darker than that of other creatures, resembling more of a deep red.
"Nice, nice, nice!!!" Seeing the blood rising to the surface, Luo’er couldn’t help but cheer with delight. His voice quickly spread across the deck, and the sailors began to cheer as well.
"Release the second bomb!" In his excitement, Luo’er didn’t let his guard down and continued to shout orders.
He didn’t believe that one deepwater bomb would be enough to kill the deep-sea behemoths. Judging by the blood rising to the surface, the Leviathan was clearly badly injured, so Luo’er wanted to press the advantage and take its life while it was weak.
The second deepwater bomb was dropped into the water, and once again, a high plume of water exploded, this time tinted with a hint of red. For those on the ship, this was without a doubt the best feedback.
"Luo’er, it’s dead..." Finally, Fulajie’er’s report arrived belatedly.
"Dead?" Luo’er was stunned for a moment, hardly believing his ears. They had actually killed a Leviathan, the absolute ruler of the seas—this was a remarkable feat indeed.
