Chapter 1079: Chapter 1072: Nina’s Assistance
"It seems you’ve had it figured out all along," Cheng Ziang said.
"What else could it be? Actually, you shouldn’t have come down with me. I could have come alone. You all could have stayed on the airboat, and we could have left as soon as I got back," Luo’er sighed.
"You should say that to them, not me. I’m the one who has the bigger picture in mind," Cheng Ziang shrugged.
"As if I would comply. It’s not often we come to Ilanadale; I want to see my mother too," Tangmo said.
"See, you’re calling her so dearly. Anyone who doesn’t know better might think you’re real siblings," Cheng Ziang spread his hands and said.
"Alright, let’s not get sidetracked," Luo’er said with a slight cough before continuing seriously, "We need to stay alert at all times. If mother comes to help us, we can leave immediately. But we must be wary no matter what, Tana will certainly not let it go easily. She has been able to manipulate others once, she can do it the second time. We have no secrets in front of her, so it’s best to be vigilant."
"Wouldn’t she send someone from Ilanadale to investigate the airboat then? There are still Snow Elves and Night Elves on board, as well as the Prime Fluid that Xiapei Kam needs. If these things fall into the hands of Ilanadale, our efforts will be wasted," Baiyue said with some worry.
"Don’t worry. Ilanadale isn’t bold enough to investigate the airboat. The airboat is the headquarters’ asset, not just anyone can look into it. In the dealings between headquarters and Ilanadale, Ilanadale has always been at a disadvantage. Even if they know what they want is on the airboat, I don’t think they’d dare to act rashly," Cheng Ziang reassured.
"Although Tana knows everything, as an artificially created artificial intelligence, I think she might even be less sophisticated in human emotions and customs than Fula," Luo’er said.
"That’s hard to say. After all, Tana has been controlling this world ever since the elves awakened. If she had the intention to learn, she could have become quite shrewd by now," Cheng Ziang said.
"No matter what, we should adapt to circumstances and act accordingly. After leaving Divine Wood Down, we’ll head straight for the coast, then find an opportunity to leave Ilanadale by ship and head for Xia Yue Island," Luo’er said.
After Nina met with Luo’er, there was no news. During this time, the Advance Team was kept under soft detainment in the tree house, with Ilanadale’s elite Guards Flintlock Team below, each member armed with an automatic rifle. If it really came to a fight, it was doubtful the Advance Team would stand much chance.
Since headquarters provided Ilanadale with firearms, Ilanadale’s army quickly completed the upgrade and iteration of their weapons.
Also, since they were supplied directly by headquarters, Ilanadale avoided the tragedy of the Bobulu people, having at least semi-automatic weapons in their hands, and even company-level support weapons were at their disposal, much stronger than the Bobulu army which relied on Blaiqi merchants for purchases.
With the advantage in arms, Ilanadale became more adept at combat against foreign hunting parties, and the scales of war began to tip in Ilanadale’s favor.
After several battles, the foreign hunting parties could hardly gain any advantage over Ilanadale’s army. In fact, several hunting parties were annihilated, their bodies hung on the borders as a warning.
Of course, providing weapons was one thing, key was that headquarters taught Ilanadale the experience of modern combat, allowing them to fully utilize their weapon power for better and safer attacks against the enemy.
As for the foreign hunting parties, although most were equipped with Earth weapons, their overall combat strategies were still those of feudal armies. Faced with such modern tactics, they were outmatched and completely temperamentally suppressed.
Previously, they could rely on the superiority of their weapons to overpower Ilanadale, but no one expected that within just over a year, both the war gear and combat strategies of Ilanadale would undergo a fundamental transformation, leaving them helpless after several battles.
Ilanadale has many forests and a humid, rainy climate, so weapon maintenance was of utmost importance. For this, headquarters went to great lengths, specially designing a batch of weapons able to withstand rainforest climates, with rust-proof treatments for all firearm materials.
Although the manual explicitly required Ilanadale’s soldiers to perform weapon maintenance once a week, in reality, even if their weapons went several months without care, they wouldn’t encounter major issues.
You should know that this is considered the highest standard in Earth’s weapons trade, the so-called custom weapons.
The weapons trade between Earth and Otherworld can generally be divided into three levels. The first is simply the civil arms trade, which is the level of the Bobulu people. Blaiqi merchants purchase civil weapons from Earth and then sell them to the military.
The second method is for an Otherworld nation to contact a country on Earth through the Blaiqi people and place direct orders for military weapons. Most Otherworld nations make their purchases in this manner, with the benefit of being able to acquire a great majority of military weapons, including squad-level and even battalion-level support weapons.
The third method is the best one, which involves Earth nations customizing weapons specifically for an Otherworld nation by adjusting materials and craftsmanship per the order. As long as the Otherworld nation is willing to pay extra, Earth people can equip them with military configurations identical to those of Earth’s armed forces.
Such trade is mainly aimed at some partners, for example, mercenaries of the CIA, or the headquarters and Ronisca, as well as headquarters and Ilanadale. Some of the AKS74U rifles in Ronisca’s possession were made with Russia’s most advanced materials and craftsmanship and were exclusively sold only to Ronisca.
As one of the headquarters’ partners, Ilanadale could say it rode on the coattails of Luo’er and Nina, directly purchasing exclusively customized weapons from headquarters. Even Melia, who arrived earlier, didn’t receive such treatment; her army was still equipped with second-tier weapons.
About three days later, at dusk, the Advance Team noticed a very obvious change in the guards downstairs. All previous guards had been replaced by a brand new Guards Flintlock Team. Such an unusual move made Luo’er grow concerned.
"Luo’er, Mom asked you guys to get ready. She will come to pick you up personally soon, and then take you to the airboat," Fulajie’er’s long-missed voice echoed in Luo’er’s mind at that moment.
"How come you started calling her ’Mom’ as well? She’s my mother," Luo’er said with a mixture of laughter and tears.
"She told me to call her that; it’s not like I wanted to," Fulajie’er grumbled back.
"Alright, alright, I’m not blaming you," Luo’er waved his hand dismissively and then said solemnly, "Did you inform the airboat side?"
"Mom has already sent someone to notify them. They should be ready by now," Fulajie’er answered.
"Good, go tell everyone to prepare to depart!" Luo’er nodded and then commanded.
"Received, I’ll go right away," Fulajie’er responded and said no more.
Before long, all members of the Advance Team had gathered in Luo’er’s room. Just as they entered, a series of hoofbeats and wheel sounds came from downstairs.
Immediately after, a series of hasty footsteps followed. Nina, holding her long skirt, hurried upstairs and after glancing at everyone, said anxiously, "Hurry up and go, I’ve arranged for a carriage to take you out of the city!"
"The people downstairs?" Luo’er asked hesitantly.
"The people downstairs are taken care of. Now they are all my people," Nina explained.
"Great, we leave immediately!" With a sense of relief, Luo’er then instructed the team with a wave of his hand.
Nina stood at the door, watching as each member of the team departed one by one, with Luo’er trailing at the end. As he passed by Nina, she quickly grabbed his arm.
"Luo’er, promise Mom that you will return safely. Mom doesn’t want you to never come back. If that’s the case, it would be better if you just stayed here and didn’t go anywhere," Nina said earnestly.
"Don’t worry, Mom, we will be careful. Nothing bad will happen," Luo’er replied with a smile, and took Nina’s hand in his.
"You promise me, don’t be like your father—unreliable with his words!" Nina said, tears glistening in her eyes.
"Don’t worry, Mom, I’m nothing like Dad, you’ve said so yourself, haven’t you?" Luo’er comforted her.
