Chapter 106: Chapter 102: Magic Prohibited

He shoved the gun into his waistband, and as he rose to his feet, he instinctively looked at Daier. She was eyeing him with a strange and terrified expression. After some thought, he got up and walked towards her.

As Luo’er approached, Daier crouched on the ground, hugging her head with her hands, her body trembling incessantly. Her clothes had completely wiped the puddle of urine on the ground clean.

As he stood before her, looking at her terrified expression, he sighed, and grabbing her chin in his hand, he lifted her face. Confronted with her frightened demeanour, he paused, then spoke softly, "If anyone asks you about me, say you don’t know anything. Understood?"

Daier stared at Luo’er, his formerly humble and haggard appearance replaced by calm and collectedness, so much so that she hardly recognized the man before her.

"Did you hear me?" he said, giving her a cold look, reinforcing his words.

Whether it was out of fear or not, Daier nodded with a tremble. Luo’er turned to look at the others, noticing several had lifted their heads out of curiosity, looking around. He raised his gun and fired into the air. The crowd jolted and hastily lowered their heads.

"Take care!" Luo’er wanted to offer Daier some comforting words, but they all boiled down to this simple sentiment. He sighed lightly, let go of her, and headed towards the kitchen exit.

When he got to the door, he pressed his back against the wall to open it and peeked out. Only after confirming it was safe did he step outside. Outside, Luo’er found the surrounding area eerily quiet. Not far from there lay the bodies of a few guards. What puzzled him was that the rune-engraved armor on these guards was entirely ineffective. Their armor had been punctured by small holes, seemingly easily pierced by small-caliber rifle rounds.

Luo’er held his gun, crouched, and sprinted to a waist-high shrub. Using the shrub for cover, he slowly made his way towards the classroom.

This was during school hours, and most people were concentrated in the teaching building. Luo’er had to reach the classroom building to save Tangmo. Thankfully, he was quite familiar with the layout of the academy. The Virtual Battlefield Hall was an exact replica of the Sacred Heart Magic Academy. Luo’er had wandered around the academy quite a bit during his training, so he knew the campus layout like the back of his hand.

After painstakingly reaching the perimeter of the education building, he saw no one around. Just as he was about to breathe a sigh of relief, two black figures suddenly flashed around the corner. They were two gunmen outfitted in tactical gear. They immediately spotted the sneaky Luo’er and aimed their guns at him and yelled, "Who’s there? Hands up!"

With a helpless sigh, Luo’er was about to lift his hands and stand up when suddenly, the two gunmen fell to the ground without any warning, as if a shock had gone through them. It was only after they fell that Luo’er noticed each had a flying knife embedded in the back of their necks.

He took a long breath, realizing the cavalry had arrived. Cheng Ziang jumped down from a tree, his adventurous outfit donned and his beloved long knife slung over his back.

"You really are careless!" he said, pulling the flying knives out of the two men’s necks. He wiped the blood off the blades and stood up to look at Luo’er and speak.

"Is everything okay outside?" Luo’er’s first question was this one as he saw Cheng Ziang.

"The Holy Heart City’s city guards have sealed off the entire academy. According to them, an unidentified group of armed gunmen has kidnapped the Magic Academy," Cheng Ziang responded.

"Who are these people? Why are they wearing tactical gear common to Earth and using prohibited AR rifles?" Luo’er asked, looking at the two bodies on the ground.

"I am also curious, what is the purpose of this?" Cheng Ziang propped his chin on his fist and said seriously.

"More importantly, why would they dare kidnap a Magic Academy? Isn’t that equivalent to kidnapping an army camp?" Luo’er asked solemnly.

"Why not?" Cheng Ziang looked up and asked.

"Possible?" Luo’er was puzzled.

"Didn’t you notice?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"Notice what?" Luo’er was taken aback.

Cheng Ziang moved his fingers in the air, then said: "The magic in the air, it’s no longer usable!"

Luo’er was startled to hear this. Only then did he notice something strange about his body. He took out his wand, tried to activate the magic, but found he couldn’t. Magic couldn’t be directed into his body. He remembered Daier’s words about feeling ’stripped’, and it only now hit him. The magic didn’t even attempt to invade his body anymore.

Unlike Luo’er, Daier and the others were from Otherworld and had grown up in a magical environment, so they were sensitive to anomalies in magic, like animals sensing an earthquake - it’s an innate ability.

However, Luo’er and the others were born and raised on Earth, accustomed to an environment devoid of magic. Thus, when the magic acted up, their reaction was not as sensitive as that of the Otherworlders.

This explained why the guards were easily taken down by small-caliber rifle bullets. Without the enhancement of magic, their lightweight metal armor simply could not withstand the assault of modern bullets.

However, knowing this only deepened Luo’er’s confusion. These invaders were equipped in Earth’s tactical gear and armed with modern rifles. They were capable of suppressing the magic flow within the academy, rendering the mages powerless, and succeeded in hijacking the entire institution. What was their endgame?

Unbeknownst to Luo’er, in the distant palace of the Uptown District, King Gudelv of Odelanqi was in a discussion with Dulens Hamster, the Cardinal Bishop of the Church resident in Holy Heart City, regarding the hijacking of the Magic Academy.

"Your Eminence!" Despite being a king himself, Gudelv displayed his respect for Dulens.

"Who are these people and how were they able to hijack the academy?" Dulens immediately asked, showing his grave concern for the matter.

"From our contact and observations, these people appear to be from the Otherworld," Gudelv said after some contemplation.

"Othersworlders, aren’t they supposed to stay in Yazhi City, what are they doing in Holy Heart City, and even daring to hijack the Magic Academy? Unforgivable." Dulens raged, his face twisted with anger. "I demand an audience with his Holiness to request an extermination of Otherworlders from our continent!"

"The Otherworlders seem to have some demand," Gudelv, after a moment of hesitation, eventually confessed.

"What do they want?" Dulens inquired.

"They want the armies of the Otherworld to appear in Yazhi City; otherwise, they will slaughter all the students in the academy," Gudelv paused before revealing this shocking demand.

"Bang!" His words were cut short by the huge thud of Dulens slamming his hands on the table. Livid with rage, Dulens roared, "These scoundrels, tell them this: I will not let them go unchecked if the Otherworld’s army dares to appear in Yazhi City. There’s no need to report to his Holiness; I can make this decision. If those Otherworlders dare to harm one academy student, we will launch another Prophetic War, making them pay a thousand-fold for their deeds!"

The Prophetic Wars referred to the first and second Otherworld Wars. Although the first war resulted in heavy losses for the Otherworld Allied Army, they managed to achieve significant victories in the second war, which dissuaded the intentions of the United Nations Army to conquer the Otherworld.

"If we refuse to compromise, they might slaughter the hostages, which I believe we both would rather not see happen," Gudelv commented, instantly dousing Dulens’ fury and making him regain his composure.

"We must report this to his Holiness and have him negotiate with the Otherworlders personally. If they dare to lay a hand on the students, I won’t let them go," with these slowly muttered words, the calm Dulens proposed a course of action.

"Seems like it’s already too late," Gudelv said with a strange look, "Some students have already been killed in the struggle."

Dulens slammed the table again, even rising to his feet this time. He was visibly shaking with rage, pointing with trembling fingers, "Order the Temple Knights to attack them, save the students at all costs!"

"Understood!" One of the Temple Knights accepted the order and left immediately. Watching him leave, Gudelv had a mysterious smile hiding behind his lips.

About an hour later, the same Temple Knight rushed into the hall, knelt down with a solemn voice, "My Lord, the attack has been hindered, the Temple Knights suffered heavy casualties!"

"How could that be?" Dulens was taken aback, stunned by the news, "The Temple Knights only lost three members in the war of Count Ganette’s Territory. How did they suffer heavy casualties here?"

"I don’t know, my Lord," the Temple Knight stuttered in a state of clear fear, "The weapons of those Otherworlders are incredibly powerful. They can easily knock the Temple Knights off their horses. Our armor and shields are powerless against their attacks."

"What’s... what’s happening?" Dulens clenched his fist in confusion.

"Your Eminence, the magic of the Magic Academy seems to be... unusable..." The knight finally gathered the courage to share this information.

"Unable to use it, what on earth is happening?" Shock after shock hit Dulens like a wave. He clutched at his chest and sat back on his chair.

Watching Dulens, Gudelv spoke, "Your Eminence, we should perhaps refrain from attacking the Magic Academy for now. They seem to have a magical artifact that can suppress the flow of magic."

"A magic artifact that suppresses magic," Dulens repeated, suddenly perking up, murmuring, "Could it be..."

Gudelv looked straight at Dulens with an emotionless face, a hint of laughter in his heart. He, of course, knew what the Temple Knights were facing. In an environment where magic was unusable, facing a hail of bullets from a 7.62 caliber MINIMI light machine gun, a mass charge of Temple Knights was practically a suicide mission. The armor they wore or the shields they wielded were all incapable of defending against such concentrated fire from this mid-caliber light machine gun from Earth.
