Chapter 1058: Chapter 1051: Winning People’s Hearts
Elder Tu Xiu narrowed his eyes at Luo’er, the pupils becoming thin and constricted; despite the fur on his face, the twitching of his cheeks was still noticeable.
Clearly, he was very dissatisfied with Luo’er’s assessment, always feeling Luo’er was speaking from the perspective of the Rabbit-ear Tribe, negating their loyalty.
But as Feron had said, after initially arriving at the Western Continent, it was the Scouring Sky Beast, Lord Leiyun, who prompted everyone to leave, and Tu Xiu’s later confirmation supported this. In other words, everyone did not leave out of disloyalty but rather because it was the Scouring Sky Beast’s intentional act.
Luo’er was now without a way to verify the Scouring Sky Beast’s thoughts at the time, could not even comprehend how it communicated with everyone, but from the intelligence he had gathered, he could still vaguely sense some of the beast’s thoughts at that time.
Luo’er simply couldn’t imagine its experience at the time, breaking through the heavy encirclement of the East Continent Clan’s army, gravely wounded as it brought these near-extinct Sub-beastmen to the distant Western Continent. Merely this experience was enough to fill Luo’er with profound respect for it.
However, Luo’er also understood that the Scouring Sky Beast’s arrival in the Western Continent was an affair of several hundred years ago, and the Sub-beastmen were not long-lived like the Elf Dwarves; their lifespan was no different from that of the Human Race, thus they had gone through several generations.
Concerning the events of the first generation, although they were passed down from generation to generation, inevitably, after a few generations, there were bound to be some divergences and misunderstandings in the information; therefore, Feron’s words could not be completely trusted, nor could Tu Xiu’s, otherwise, it could easily lead to misjudgment.
One of the goals of Luo’er’s trip was to try his best to resolve the conflicts between the Wolfman Clan and the Rabbit-ear Tribe and help them reconcile.
At first glance, these two species might seem to be in opposition: the big grey wolf and the little rabbit. But in reality, the Wolfman Clan is not equal to wolves, nor is the Rabbit-ear Tribe equivalent to rabbits—they are both Non-human Races, not wild beasts.
Both species are omnivorous, intelligent beings; there’s absolutely no need to designate each other as archenemies and follow the survival of the fittest principle from Earth.
After pausing, Luo’er slightly softened his tone and then continued, "I know this matter has weighed heavily on your hearts and minds, but it’s really unnecessary. So many years have passed; there’s no need to be antagonistic toward each other. You have been displaced to the Western Continent—both you and they should be uniting, not opposing or antagonizing each other."
"You must also realize that the people of the Western Continent don’t like you—it’s only because you are too weak that you haven’t become their enemies. In such a situation, you should all band together even more, instead of endlessly quarreling over old grudges; it’s meaningless..."
At this point, Luo’er paused, as he needed Taran to translate what he had just said to Tu Xiu. Taran’s translation skills left much to be desired; Luo’er’s speech of several dozen seconds was translated by him in almost ten minutes, during which he repeatedly asked Luo’er about the exact words he had used.
After hearing Taran’s translation, Tu Xiu fell into deep thought. The rage that had previously been reflected on his face had long since vanished, replaced by a profound serenity.
"So, Lord Luo’er, what do you think we should do?" Tu Xiu finally asked after an indeterminable amount of time.
"As of now, with the intervention of Earth’s people, this world is no longer just the world of the Western Continent’s people. Yet, this might not necessarily be bad for you. Earth’s people possess more advanced technology and culture and won’t discriminate or resist a group just for being different in form. If you want to live like humans, consider aligning with them, and you might secure a chance for survival. It’s certainly better than being ostracized by the Western Continent’s people, huddling in this valley, living in wretched desperation, isn’t it?" Luo’er said indifferently.
"Lord Luo’er, your words are not suitable," Tu Xiu said, waving his hand, "Staying in the valley is the creed of our race. We had sworn to guard Lord Leiyun from generation to generation. Even though she has turned to dust, we won’t change... "
"That is the thinking of the older generation. What about the young people of the new generation? How do they think?" Luo’er asked.
"They will follow tradition. The young are only young; the world still belongs to us, the older generation," Tu Xiu calmly stated.
"I do not agree with your view, Elder Tu Xiu," Luo’er shook his head, "The world may be yours, but ultimately, it belongs to the younger generation. The older generation stubbornly adheres to tradition, stifling the drive of the youth to seek change. They will eventually become just like you, and the cycle will repeat, with no progress made in the end. How long can you live in this valley without change? Do you think you can survive several more generations without it?"
"Don’t think of my words as ominous, but they are the truth. With the intervention of the people from Earth, significant changes have occurred in the Western Continent, which I believe you must have sensed from the Blaiqi people. The world is changing rapidly, yet you remain the same. In the end, you will be completely engulfed by the tidal waves of the era and vanish without a trace in the long river of history..."
"In doing so, would you not fail the good intentions of Lord Leiyun? When it fought to bring you from the distant East Continent to the Western Continent, it certainly did not wish for you to slowly wane here, ultimately disappearing without a trace. If you persist in this, how can you live up to the sacrifice of your Lord Leiyun?"
Luo’er’s speech was lengthy because he realized that no matter how he paused, Taran’s translation was still laborious, so he decided to speak all he wanted to say in one go, and then let Taran translate it all at once, with his own assistance and additions.
Listening to Taran’s translation, Tu Xiu bowed his head and thought for a long time. His gaze flitted about, not daring to meet Luo’er’s eyes. After a long silence, he took a deep breath and then met Luo’er’s gaze again.
At that moment, his eyes had become much more deferential, and he reached out his hand somewhat uncertainly and said, "The words of Lord Luo’er have awakened me. Please take a seat; I implore you to guide our people out of their confusion."
"Thank you," Luo’er said with a smile and a nod of his head, then he sat back down on the chair, ending his confrontational stance with Tu Xiu.
Once seated again, Tu Xiu noticed that no one had touched the drinks in front of them and reached out his hand, saying, "Please, everyone, enjoy your drinks. I guarantee with my life that there is no poison in them."
"Luo’er..." Seeing Tu Xiu’s invitation, Baiyue turned her head towards Luo’er and called out uncertainly.
"Drink," Luo’er nodded gently.
"I’m not thirsty," Cheng Ziang said with a constant, faint smile on his face, shaking his head and declining Tu Xiu’s hospitality.
As the deputy commander, Cheng Ziang knew he had to stay rational at all costs. Even if Luo’er fell, he could not afford to do so; otherwise, the Advance Team would be completely lost.
Luo’er took the wooden cup from in front of Cheng Ziang with his hand, then looked down at the liquid in the cup before looking at Tu Xiu and asking, "It seems that Elder Tu Xiu has quite a bit of medical knowledge."
"Oh, it’s just some knowledge of herbal concoctions," Tu Xiu waved his hand and shook his head, "When we first arrived in the Western Continent, many people were not accustomed to the local climate, which caused many to fall ill. Hence, our ancestors tried a variety of herbs and combined several of them to cure the epidemic among our people. For the past few hundred years, we have been studying herbs, for we truly cannot afford a major illness, as it could potentially lead to the extinction of our people."
"I see..." Luo’er nodded lightly, and a notion crossed his mind.
It seemed the Wolfman Clan indeed had something worth learning; they were able to taste hundreds of herbs in a short period of time to find a cure for diseases, which indicates this race might possess quite profound medical knowledge.
As the saying goes, one unique skill can conquer all. The Wolfman Clan, setting aside everything else, just their formula for curing diseases was enough to warrant an alliance from the people of Earth.
After all, even the physical rules differed between the two worlds, making Earth’s understanding of Otherworld medicine severely challenging. If they could gain assistance from the Wolfman Clan now, they might make significant breakthroughs in the field of Otherworld medicine.
With such thoughts, Luo’er found himself intending to form an alliance with the Wolfman Clan. In truth, the Wolfman Clan might have a daunting appearance, but they were still of the Non-human Race. If people could accept the looks of the Wolfmen and cast aside their prejudices, they might discover their unique qualities.
