Chapter 104: Chapter 100: Omen

After enjoying a moment of tenderness together, Luo’er finally remembered the matter he wanted to discuss with Moumou.

"Moumou!" Luo’er called her name.

"Hmm." Tangmo lay her head back, softly looking at him.

"There’s a chance of a major incident happening at the academy soon. Be extra careful!" Luo’er advised with a serious expression on his face.

"What incident?" Seeing Luo’er’s serious expression, Tangmo became nervous.

"It is not clear yet, but some power is planning an operation against the Magic Academy." Luo’er revealed, frowning and looking serious.

"What should we do?" Tangmo blinked at him, in times like these, she knew that Luo’er was her most important support.

"For now, they seem to have no plans to act. So, we will just have to wait and see. If they act after we leave the academy, then it’s not our problem anymore." Luo’er analysed.

"However, we should be more vigilant right now," pausing, Luo’er took out a sheathed dagger from his chest and handed it to her. "Always keep your Magic Wand by your side and carry this dagger as well."

"This is..." Tangmo hesitatingly accepted the dagger.

"This is Cheng Ziang’s dagger, you should remember how to use a dagger in case if anything happens, right?" Luo’er asked.

"No problem!" Tangmo firmly nodded her head. Everyone thought that Tangmo was just a delicate girl with powerless hands, but in reality, she was a military officer in training. Underestimating her based on her appearance is definitely a big mistake.

"We do not know when they will act up, but if anything happens and I am not by your side, remember not to act recklessly. I will save you!" Luo’er hesitated a bit and continued to warn her.

"I understand," Tangmo whispered while continuing to hold Luo’er, blinked and said, "That’s why you are my favourite, Luo’er!"

"You..." Luo’er didn’t know how to deal with Tangmo’s enthusiasm.

After finally escaping from Tangmo, half of his lunch break had already passed and Luo’er hadn’t rested. Even thinking of resting with Tangmo was unthinkable, who knows what this young girl who is so possessive can do.

Yawning, Luo’er headed slowly to the kitchen, preparing himself for his afternoon work, seeming a bit tired.

Suddenly, he heard a deliberate whistling sound coming from the nearby bushes. He turned in the direction of the sound and saw Cheng Ziang lazily lying on the grass, propping up his cheeks and watching him.

"What are you doing here?" Luo’er was puzzled by his actions.

"Taking a nap in the afternoon!" Cheng Ziang answered naturally, even yawning.

"You..." Luo’er was left speechless. Is this guy sneaking into the academy to take a nap because he is bored?

"I arrived early, only saw someone hugging a girl and laughing and giggling with her, so I didn’t want to disturb!" Cheng Ziang teased him.

"It’s a misunderstanding." Luo’er seemed speechless.

"No misunderstanding, I finally understood why Moumou always likes to give you a hard time." Cheng Ziang shrugged.

"I was just helping a female student return to her dormitory, why do you always think I have ulterior motives?" Luo’er was getting anxious.

"Just teasing you." Cheng Ziang laughed, jumped up from the ground, dusted off his hands and said, "I am here to exchange information with you!"

"Next time don’t joke about me like this." Luo’er lowered his head, sighed and couldn’t help but comment.

"Okay, okay. You brought it upon yourself for being such a flirt. Let’s get to the point!" Cheng Ziang had a teasing smirk on his face.

Maintaining a serious face, Luo’er gestured Cheng Ziang towards him, "This way!"

The two took advantage of the fewer people in the academy during recess and sneakily loomed into a less noticeable corner to exchange information.

"I visited the archives once again. There is a tunnel which leads directly to outside of the academy. But I am not sure where it leads to specifically. I found an underground warehouse there, which contains several large boxes. I suspect they are weapons!"

"Weapons, Earth’s weapons?" Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but ask.

"Should be. I smelt gun oil." Luo’er nodded.

"So you mean to say that there is a secret tunnel in the archives, which can secretly lead outsiders into the academy? And this tunnel is full of prepared weapons?" Cheng Ziang analysed.

"Correct," Luo’er nodded, then continued: "I heard some information there. Some people are preparing to launch an operation against the academy."

"An operation?" Cheng Ziang’s expression became grave.

"Don’t know about specific operation yet. I didn’t want to raise an alarm. That guy you took down was their mole. Besides him, there is one more mole in the academy. And based on his magic level, this person must have a high position in the academy." Luo’er continued to explain.

"Who exactly are these people? Did you find anything out?" Cheng Ziang asked.

Luo’er shook his head and said, "I didn’t get a look at the undercover agent’s face, but based on their conversation, I know they’re loyal to someone they call ’sir’."

"Sir?" Cheng Ziang frowned, analyzing the term.

"I’m not sure whether ’Sir’ is the person’s codename or an honorific, but if it’s the latter, it’s possible he’s a nobleman. Trying to figure out who among the nobility might be targeting the academy here in Holy Heart City is a bit perplexing though," Luo’er shared his thoughts.

"The royal house!" Cheng Ziang voiced his own hypothesis.

"You mean!" Luo’er stared at him wide-eyed.

"I’m just guessing," Cheng Ziang paused before continuing, "If it’s the royal house, that would make sense. The royal power has been suppressed by the Church Court’s influence, and the Magic Academy is directly run by the Church.

"So what is it they are planning to do—carry out a terror attack? But would that really achieve anything?" Luo’er fell into deep thought.

"If it is the royals, mobilizing manpower and weapons would be a piece of cake for them. What’s certain is that whatever these people are up to in the academy isn’t good. If things get bad, we might have to pull out from the academy earlier than planned," Cheng Ziang suggested.

"No, we still need to proceed as planned. I have a feeling that this incident is somehow linked to Earth," Luo’er shook his head, rejecting the suggestion.

"Alright then. But be careful. It wasn’t easy for me to get in here once. Security has tightened up in the Uptown District lately; I had to stay up all night to sneak in," Cheng Ziang said, yawning involuntarily.

"Where are Yue’er and Little Ke?" Luo’er asked.

"They are still in the East District. If necessary, I can have them infiltrate the Uptown District to assist you." Cheng Ziang stated.

"If those people actually make a move, remember to reinforce us promptly. Should the situation allow, I intend to disengage at a certain time," Luo’er said.

"I understand. I’ll have them blend into Uptown and stay on standby near the academy starting from tomorrow. You guys also need to be extra cautious in there!" Cheng Ziang nodded in agreement.

"I got it!" Luo’er responded, and after some banter, they part ways secretly.

On his way back to the kitchen, Luo’er seemed somewhat anxious. He looked up at the sky. It was a clear, cloudless day. But he felt a storm brewing. An intense premonition informed him that something significant was about to happen at the academy.

Back in the kitchen, Luo’er carried on with his tedious and mundane tasks. His patience had been worn thin by the uninteresting work, leaving him numb and indifferent.

"Are you alright, Luo’er?" Daier asked out of concern, appearing by his side at some point.

"Oh, I am just a little sleep-deprived," Luo’er replied with a chuckle and a shake of his head.

"You’ve got to pay attention to your sleep," Daier reminded with concern.

"I know, and thank you for caring." Luo’er smiled at her.

Daier watched him, bit her lip, and fidgeted with the apron she wore. After much internal struggle, she mustered up the courage to ask, "Um, I heard you’re really close to Miss Feliz."

"Oh, really?" Luo’er was taken aback, unsure of why she suddenly asked this.

Daier pursed her lips, hesitated for a moment before she spoke, "People say, they saw you and Miss Feliz... looking very... intimate... while walking towards the dormitories."

"Very intimate?" Luo’er looked clueless. Scratching his head, he said, "Miss Feliz hurt her foot, all I did was carry her back."

"Really?" Luo’er couldn’t tell if it was his imagination, but Daier seemed to perk up immediately.

"Miss Feliz... she probably really dislikes you, right?" Daier asked, fishing for information, while trying to conceal her delighted grin.

"I suppose so, she doesn’t seem to like me much," Luo’er continued scratching his head.

"Yes, well, Miss Feliz is a noblewoman, she probably looks down on people like us," Daier stated, a smile tugging at her lips.

"You seem quite pleased that someone dislikes me, huh?" Luo’er observed, looking at her.

"No, no!" Daier exclaimed, blush creeping upon her face. She hastily waved her hands in denial, "I just, just... "

"I was just teasing you. You just seem a little odd to me," Luo’er said, smiling.

"Eh, am I really acting that weird?" Daier asked, sounding and looking guilty.

Seeing her like this, Luo’er couldn’t help but sigh inwardly. He knew what Daier was up to but found it hard to comprehend why, despite being a half-elf – a status that typically draws disdain – so many girls seemed to be interested in him. This was causing considerable inconvenience to his work.

At present, the most crucial task was to figure out the Magic Academy’s bottom line and the Church Court’s fleet of mages, including their strength and movements. The original plan was for him and Tangmo to carry out the mission together. It clearly now appeared that this plan was obsolete as Tangmo had become the famed magic prodigy Audrey, whose every move was closely watched, making her useless for the mission. As a slave, Luo’er had to keep finding time from his rest to accomplish the mission while Cheng Ziang, the unlucky fellow, was stuck with the task of investigating the mages’ army.

Continuing like this was out of the question, thought Luo’er. If he didn’t obtain any valuable information in the next few days, he would resort to smuggling Tangmo out of the academy and head to Masya for first-hand reconnaissance.
