Chapter 1030 - 1023: Village Defense Battle
Chapter 1030: Chapter 1023: Village Defense Battle
After giving the order, Luo’er thought for a moment, then turned to look at Cheng Ziang and asked, "Were the weapons that arrived yesterday distributed?"
"Yes, they were just handed out, but the semi-automatic rifles were not distributed because we were afraid they wouldn’t know how to use them," Cheng Ziang shrugged as he spoke.
"That’s fine, since we are here, it doesn’t really matter whether they use semi-automatics or not," Luo’er nodded and replied.
"These Beastmen are really relentless; wave after wave comes without end. Meila Village is already surrounded like a fortress, yet they still come poking around," Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but comment.
"Perhaps they think these Sub-beastmen are easy to bully," Luo’er paused, then continued, "As the village chief also mentioned before, these Beastmen attacked not only Meila Village but didn’t spare the other villages either. If Meila Village had not had defensive measures, it probably would have been wiped out by now."
"What, are Oudallo’s troops all raised on crap? They just keep clogging up the Luo Sunset Fortress and don’t even arrange Mobile Troops to scout this area?" Cheng Ziang asked.
"Who knows? Maybe they don’t even regard these Sub-beastmen as their own," Luo’er said.
While they were chatting, he casually got up from the ground, looked out, and the sight made him frown.
"What did you see?" Noticing Luo’er’s troubled expression, Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but ask.
"The enemy is advancing in a dispersed formation; it seems they have also been influenced by Earth’s tactics, spreading out their formation to avoid concentrated fire," Luo’er responded.
"Not bad, these Beastmen do have some tactics for fighting," Cheng Ziang remarked with praise.
In their perception, group charges had always been the norm for the Otherworld army, even when battling Earth’s forces. The Otherworld army still performed group charges in an attempt to break through Earth’s lines in one go.
With the support of Rune Armor and defensive magic, Earth’s firepower seemed quite feeble, so after the Second Otherworld War, Earth’s troops greatly feared the Otherworld army’s group charges.
For decades after the war, Earth conducted numerous war simulations of that conflict, ultimately reaching a conclusion.
That was, under the conditions of having equal weaponry at the time, Earth’s forces had to mobilize heavy artillery to heavily bombard the enemy when they gathered, maximizing the damage to the enemy’s cluster strength, otherwise, when these Otherworld troops regrouped and charged at Earth’s defensive positions again, Earth’s failure was almost inevitable.
For decades after the war, both Earthlings and Otherworldlings drew lessons from that conflict. The Otherworldlings also started intentionally dispersing their formations to ensure their soldiers were not devastated by enemy firepower.
Since Earth’s troops hardly used Cavalry and their armored mechanized units could not operate in the Otherworld, Otherworld troops did not have to worry about sudden Cavalry charges by Earth forces, and this tactic was quickly popularized.
Since the Second Otherworld War, there had hardly been any chance for Earthlings and Otherworldlings to engage in battle; the Third Otherworld War ended as abruptly as it had begun, and Earth’s forces almost never confronted the Otherworld armies again.
Therefore, the main changes in Otherworld military tactics were still primarily aimed at other hostile armies in their world. Now, apart from the most elite units equipped with Rune Armored Cavalry still performing group charges, most forces that lacked the capability to equip Rune Armor or did not have Mage support eventually adopted the dispersed infantry attack mode.
Clearly, these Beastman attackers had learned Earth’s dispersed infantry tactics; having neither Mages nor the capacity to equip Rune Armor, they could only spread their formation to try to minimize casualties.
But for the Advance Team, whether the enemy dispersed or not didn’t matter at all; with their overwhelming firepower, no matter what formation the enemy adopted, they were ultimately doomed to be defeated.
"The enemy has approached within a hundred yards, Luo’er!" At that moment, Luo’er received Fulajie’er’s report in his mind.
Luo’er nodded, then climbed up from the corner and, holding his gun, loudly commanded, "All units check your weapons and ammunition, prepare for battle, follow my gunshot as the signal!"
At his command, everyone peeked out from behind the walls and placed their weapons on the shooting positions atop the wall. Among them were members of the Advance Team and the Rabbit Ear militia. Unconsciously, Luo’er had taken over the command of defense at Meila Village.
His gun was equipped with an ACOG scope, and after lining a Beastman in his sight, he pulled the trigger without hesitation. Several bursts later, the Beastman in the scope dropped dead in response.
With Luo’er’s gunfire, a rat-a-tut of dense gunfire erupted from the wall, and the ground in front of the wall was continuously splattered with high mounds of soil. Several Beastmen, caught off guard, were killed on the spot at the onset of the attack.
However, these Beastmen did have some combat skills. After taking the initial hit head-on, they didn’t retreat immediately or charge forward ferociously. Instead, they immediately ducked to the ground and skillfully sought nearby cover, moving with a proficiency that was heartbreaking.
From their vantage point atop the wall, everyone began their attack from above. In addition, since the area was an open field with virtually no sloped cover to hide behind, the Beastmen sustained heavy casualties under the intense firepower.
The gunfire from the wall was intense, and the battle was still fiercely ongoing. Although the Beastmen were also equipped with long-range weapons like crossbows and even some older bolt-action rifles, under the overwhelming firepower of the Advance Team, these weapons were essentially useless.
Clearly, the Beastmen had not anticipated the Advance Team’s arrival at Meila Village, thus underestimating the village’s firepower density, which led to their brutal reception. Based on the intensity of previous battles, the Rabbit Ear militia generally equipped with bolt-action rifles was hardly able to generate such a dense firepower, posing a threat to these Beastmen.
It seemed that the bodies of Beastmen were naturally stronger than other races, allowing them to take more bullets. From past experiences, unless hit in vital areas, nearly every Beastman could take a dozen shots before falling.
In previous battles, it was common for a Beastman to be hit with an entire magazine’s bullets in non-vital body parts and still manage to run back vigorously. This was why the Beastmen still dared to raid the village even though Meila Village was sealed tight like a drum.
Under the intense firepower of the Advance Team, the Beastmen quickly realized something was amiss, and after holding out for a few minutes, they began to flee in disarray. By this time, more than half of them had been eliminated, and the remaining ones had basically lost their will to fight.
"Keep firing, keep firing, don’t let them escape!" Luo’er shouted while reloading his magazine.
The most outstanding performance during the battle came from Hu Daoke. From the start of the battle, he had been firing short bursts, with almost every bullet hitting an enemy solidly, so there was basically no need for suppressing fire.
Taran stood beside, holding a magazine and staring dumbfounded at him as he rapidly depleted his ammunition, feeling a twinge of pain watching so many casings hit the ground.
"Magazine, magazine!" Hu Daoke suddenly stopped shooting, forcefully tapped the magazine release, and the magazine clattered to the ground. He then reached out to Taran and shouted loudly.
"Oh, here it is!" Taran was startled, then quickly handed the magazine he had been holding to Hu Daoke.
Hu Daoke promptly replaced the magazine and looked back at him, waving him over and saying, "Come on over, give it a try!"
"I, I’m afraid I won’t hit and just waste bullets..." Taran hesitated to say.
"Hey, no worries, no worries, feel free to shoot with this magazine, come and practice a bit!" Hu Daoke said generously.
"Well, then I’ll give it a try..." Taran said excitedly, with a gleam of eagerness in his eyes.
"Here, as an instructor, I’ll assist you!" Hu Daoke made room, then moved beside Taran, crouched down, and patted his shoulder, saying.
