Chapter 1028: Chapter 1021: Beastman Attacks Again
The welcome party continued until late at night, and the Advance Team were accommodated at the village chief’s house. The chief’s house was not only his home but also a place for hosting guests, so it had many beds.
Baiyue and Feron cried for a long time before they finally stopped. Feron was so grateful that he almost wanted to kneel to Luo’er but was stopped just in time by him. After much turmoil deep into the night, Luo’er finally got a chance to breathe and fell asleep as soon as his head touched the pillow.
Without dreams, Luo’er felt confounded for a long time, ultimately awakened by a series of urgent jingling sounds. He got up from the bed and saw that his teammates had disappeared.
Just as he was full of confusion, Tangmo walked in. As soon as she saw him sitting on the bed, she immediately rushed over, grabbed his arm, and anxiously said, "You’re finally awake, hurry up and get dressed, grab your gun, and get ready to face the enemy!"
"What’s going on, where are the enemies?" Luo’er’s head was still muddled and he couldn’t figure out what was happening.
"The Beastmen are attacking, everyone has gone to the walls. I came to call you, let’s hurry over," Tangmo said.
"The Beastmen are here..." Luo’er lowered his head, furrowed his brows, and pondered for a moment, then raised his head and said to her, "Alright, I’m on my way."
"Hurry, I’ll help you get dressed." Tangmo picked up a coat of Luo’er’s and said. In the end, she couldn’t resist bringing it to her nose and sniffing it deeply.
Luo’er didn’t notice her actions. Instead, he looked down searching for his weapon and said without lifting his head, "Don’t bother with the clothes, just get me the tactical vest, I’ll change into it and go."
"It’s still a bit cold outside..." Tangmo hesitated.
"I’ll be fine," Luo’er said, patting the mobility device at his waist. He looked up and added, "As long as I have the mobility device, it’s fine. The coat isn’t that important."
"The fighting hasn’t started yet, why the rush?" Tangmo said with some worry.
"Ah, it hasn’t started yet?" Luo’er paused, then asked.
"Yeah, the militia reconnaissance soldiers found Beastman tracks in the forest, so they returned to the village to report and had everyone withdraw behind the walls. Listen, that jingling outside is the alarm bell," Tangmo pointed outside and said.
"I better go and take command then. As captain, it’s my responsibility in such situations," Luo’er said as he put on the vest and was now putting on his gloves.
With a gun in hand, Tangmo stood beside him, looking down at him with an expression she couldn’t hold back, "You’re not even commanding now, have you forgotten?"
"Eh," hearing her words, Luo’er paused for a while then finally recovered his senses and looked around as he asked, "Oh right, where’s Fula?"
"She went on ahead and is waiting for your orders," Tangmo shook her head helplessly.
"Looks like I can only go there and fire a few shots then," Luo’er said with a wry smile.
"It’s not necessarily so, after all, who in the Advance Team has better leadership skills than you?" Tangmo crouched down and then picked up his boots to help him into them.
"Hasn’t Ziang commanded us before?" Luo’er asked. He gave in to Tangmo, letting her have her way.
Tangmo knelt on one knee, head bowed while changing Luo’er’s boots. It was just a simple service, but she made it look like a pilgrimage; Luo’er had his hands on the bed, looking somewhat embarrassed.
"That guy is all tactics and no bravery, and won’t achieve anything great," Tangmo shook her head as she spoke.
"This..." Luo’er showed a wry smile and hesitated.
"What is it?" Tangmo looked up, tilting her head to see him.
"Your sister told you this, didn’t she?" Luo’er ventured.
At the words, a subtle smile appeared on Tangmo’s face. She then lowered her head further and asked, "So you think I don’t have the ability to see through someone?"
"Uh, that’s not what I meant, I mean..." Luo’er said apologetically.
"Well, I know myself very well, and you should too. You know who I am, better than anyone, so there’s no need to apologize," Tangmo said softly, head still low.
"I just don’t want to hurt your feelings..." Luo’er said, pressing his lips together.
"You’ve already hurt me so many times, do you care about one or two more?" Tangmo raised his head, speaking with a grievance on his face.
"When did I ever hurt your heart?" Luo’er asked, blinking in confusion.
"Every time I ask for that sort of thing, but you never comply," Tangmo said, his face slightly red.
"If I complied, it would hurt me..." Luo’er answered earnestly.
"Not at all, it’s just some marginal behavior, like, a kiss or something..." Tangmo said, shyly lowering his head.
"Do you really want to do that sort of thing?" Luo’er coughed, agreeing shyly and turned his gaze away.
The air in the room instantly became incredibly awkward and suggestive, Tangmo, smelling the pinkish scent in the air, had a dreamy look in his eyes: "Luo’er, there’s no one else here, you promised before..."
Before she could finish her sentence, a gunshot was heard from outside. Luo’er flinched, immediately jumping off the cabin, gun in one hand, and grabbing Tangmo with the other as they ran outside.
"Damn Beastman, dammit!" Even if Tangmo was usually patient, he couldn’t help but curse loudly at this moment.
The two rushed out of the house and saw that the militia and the Advance Team members were mainly concentrated on the southwestern side of the wall, so they ran over without stopping.
"Who fired the shot, where’s the enemy?" Luo’er arrived at the wall, looked up at the people on it, and asked.
"I did," Taran weakly raised his hand and said, "I saw someone moving in the woods, so I fired a shot."
"Nice shooting, didn’t miss, hit a Beastman," Ziang leaned against the wall, tearing at some bread as he spoke.
"Hey, how do you know I hit?" Taran blinked, confused.
Ziang didn’t speak, Luo’er stepped a bit closer, and then heard Fulajie’er’s excited voice: "Luo’er, you’re finally up, I was almost about to come and wake you."
"Not coming to wake me means you did the right thing, you’re becoming mature," Luo’er nodded in satisfaction, then continued to ask, "Are you sure the enemy is approaching?"
"Yes," Fulajie’er replied, "It’s the Beastmen, about forty to fifty of them, wandering in the woods."
"Why are there so many?" Hearing Fulajie’er’s report, Luo’er couldn’t help but frown and mutter.
From what he remembered, he had heard about the battle report of Meila Village, where the highest casualty at Meila Village once killed over a hundred Beastmen in a single battle, which was the most fierce wave of the Beastmen’s attack, and the number of the enemy was at least two to three times that of the casualties.
And the Beastmen could not often launch such large-scale attacks, otherwise, it would be the incompetence of Oudallo Fortress, letting so many Beastmen into Oudallo territory. That means, typically the scale of attacks should be around forty to fifty as well.
"Brother Luo’er, who are you talking to?" Taran stared wide-eyed, looking puzzled at Luo’er.
To corroborate his guess, Luo’er looked at Taran and asked, "Taran, typically how many Beastmen come to attack?"
"Hmm," Taran thought for a moment, then raised his head and said, "Usually, it’s around a dozen or twenty on average, few if only a few people, and up to forty or fifty if many."
"Just as I thought..." Luo’er nodded in satisfaction, then told him, "This time the number of Beastmen is around fifty to sixty, it’s quite a big group, we need to be vigilant."
"Fifty to sixty? Then let’s quickly ring the second-level alarm bell, inform the reserve team to come over," upon hearing the number, Taran suddenly got a bit flustered; after calming down, he became curious again, "Brother Luo’er, how did you know?"
"I’ll tell you about that later, but for now, we are here, there’s no need to call in the reserve team, the people here are enough," Luo’er said.
"Hey, Brother Luo’er is coming to help? That’s great!" Taran was overjoyed upon hearing that Luo’er planned to take active part in helping.
"After all the trouble we went through to rescue you from the clutches of the Beastmen, how could we ignore the danger you’re facing now?" Luo’er stretched his hand to his cheek, smiling as he spoke.
"Humph, I don’t get such treatment..." Seeing Luo’er’s gesture, Tangmo standing behind him couldn’t help but feel jealous.
