Only God -
Chapter 81 - 73: Have Faith
Chapter 81: Chapter 73: Have Faith
"Have you ever considered that our generation might not find God and, if that day comes, we would have to pass on the mission of searching for God to our descendants?" Dertulian spoke slowly, his eyes revealing seriousness.
"What if, if we falsely converted to the so-called Gods, then our generation may still cling to faith in the Lord, but what about our descendants? And their descendants? Would they still believe that once there was a God who granted Logos people reason and would save the Logos people when the doomsday arrives?"
Antion listened to Dertulian’s words in astonishment, having never before considered this problem.
For the Logos people, the belief in a God who bestowed reason was a matter of course, yet only at this moment did he truly realize the gravity of feigning conversion.
Years ago, when Prophet Al extinguished the fire they had worshipped, he had said:
"You regard the fire as God, just as you would mistake a jackal for a lamb."
At this moment, Dertulian’s words and the words of Prophet Al seemed to resonate in perfect harmony.
Antion, frustrated and powerless, sat down in the cabin muttering,
"What should we do then, Dertulian?"
Dertulian bowed his head in the darkness, silent for a long time.
After a while, he finally spoke,
"I only know that the Lord is my God, whom I cannot abandon."
......
In the following twenty days and nights, Dertulian and his party did not encounter any more supernatural omens.
Sixty oar-sail ships majestically sailed across the sea, forming a long vertical line on the water, with Unihorns beneath the sea propelling the waves.
Dertulian stood on deck, looking out at the vast and boundless sea, with countless fish swimming below, many of which were devoured by the Unihorns.
The sunshine was brilliantly bright, yet Dertulian’s heart did not relax but remained anxious about the uncertain future.
During these twenty days, Antion had not heard any more divine oracles from Kagawus, and it was the very absence of these divine messages that kept Dertulian from settling his mind.
The descendants of Al had a premonition that the Gods must have some great plan in store, and to Them, humans were so insignificant, like mere ants.
Would humans change their course of action because of the resistance of ants? The Gods would not insist on conversion if the Logos people were unwilling.
Thus, throughout these twenty days, Dertulian remained highly vigilant, inspecting his ship from top to bottom every day and, at night, when they briefly stopped, he would go aboard the grain ship and check all the food supplies there as well.
Fortunately, everything was perfectly normal.
Dertulian gazed into the distance; the shimmering light danced on the surface of the sea as schools of flying fish leapt and then fell back into the waters.
A total of seventy people were on this ship, with over three thousand five hundred Logos people in the fleet in total.
Whether it was any single ship falling behind, it would be an immense loss for these Logos people and cast a shadow over their future journey.
Nightfall quickly arrived.
Dertulian lay among the sleeping Logos people; although he was the leader of the fleet, no special cabin had been built for him to accommodate more people.
Beside him lay Antion,
who was deep in heavy slumber.
For some reason, Dertulian felt a sense of panic; he had an ominous premonition, but it was so vague that one couldn’t capture it precisely—what exactly it was.
He rose from the sleeping Logos people and went to the deck; to carry more people, the deck was also covered with sleeping Logos people, though fewer than those in the cabin.
Dertulian stared at the dark sea under the moonlight. Despite the peacefulness before his eyes, he couldn’t calm his heart.
After a while, Dertulian pressed the leaf he had plucked from a high mountain on his chest.
"Lord, protect us, watch over us, and let us safely reach Your abode."
Dertulian earnestly recited his prayers.
At last, after one final gaze at the ocean and ensuring there were no omens, Dertulian breathed a sigh of relief and turned to return to the cabin.
Perhaps...
He was overthinking it.
.........
Celestial Kingdom.
The Gods watched as every Logos person aboard the sixty oar-sail ships fell asleep.
Prophetic God Kagawus scrutinized Dertulian and Antion, then turned to Shan’en and said,
"It seems the time has come."
Shan’en nodded slightly.
The Gods could see every move of the Logos people, including the feigned conversion Antion proposed to Dertulian.
If Dertulian had accepted the feigned conversion, Shan’en had also decided to let them reach a land where they could establish a great nation on earth.
For He knew that time was on the side of the Gods.
No matter how long-lived the Logos people were, their lifespans barely stretched to seven hundred years.
As generations passed, the Logos people on earth would eventually forget their original faith.
Shan’en, however, regretted that Dertulian had not accepted Antion’s proposal.
Consequently, Divine King Shan En commanded Water God Angel to manipulate the ocean currents.
Slowly, a vast and exceedingly covert undercurrent began to rise from the depths.
The leading oar-sail ship carrying Dertulian gradually veered off course on the ocean surface.
At this moment, all the Unihorns were also asleep; the manipulation of the currents by Water God Angel was so masterful that not a single Unihorn detected the changes and stirred from their slumber.
Under the smooth and swift currents, the leading oar-sail ship drifted away from the remaining fifty-nine ships, heading toward a region where the undercurrent surged.
A soul made of Lightning watched all this unfold.
He sensed that the decaying father still sheltered these Logos people, therefore, He abandoned the idea of bringing the Logos people to despair through physical calamities.
Instead, the Gods turned to an affliction of the spirit to bring Dertulian to despair, as long as the leader of these Logos people succumbed and forsook his original faith, setting an unchangeable oath before the Gods.
At that time, the faith of the Gods would prosper on earth far and wide.
Shan’en looked forward to seeing that day.
His thoughts towards the Logos people were as Kagawus had once said to Water God Angel— the faith of the Logos people was the crown with which the Gods were crowned.
"Believe, Dertulian."
Thunder vied for brilliance on the surface of the stars, Shan’en gazed at the descendant of Al,
"My father once chose your father,
Do you not wish to be chosen as your father was?
Do you not wish to be hailed as a Prophet as your father was?"
The soul formed of lightning extended a hand, attempting to touch these Logos people.
"Believe, Logos people."
"Do you not desire to be regarded as the foremost of all living beings in the ages to come?"
"Do you not desire to stand in the halls of the Gods and partake in the infinite glory bestowed by them?"
