Chapter 411 - 364: Sacrificial Offering
Chapter 411: Chapter 364: Sacrificial Offering
Darkness, nothing but darkness to the naked eye.
When Mira and Anos set foot in the city beneath the city, all they perceived was darkness.
There was no light from any direction, only the icy Gale sweeping by, the land cracked everywhere, barren, and the sturdy, dead trees were gradually stripped of their remaining bark by the fierce wind. It was hard to imagine anyone living in such a place.
Old Believer Parker led Mira and Anos ahead, in such darkness, the Princess could not fathom how he discerned the direction, but he seemed intimately familiar with the paths here, directly heading towards the road that led to the city below.
A bell tied around Parker’s waist chimed as they walked, Mira and Anos kept close to the sound of the bell, for in this dark environment, ears were far more important than eyes.
Mira gripped the black sphere in her hand, the black mist she had seized from the sacrificial ceremony; as they arrived at the city below, the black sphere stirred on its own, seeming ready to break free from Mira’s grasp at any moment.
Of course, Mira would not let that happen; she remained vigilant, guarding the black mist.
After all, this black mist was a crucial artifact in maintaining her identity as the "Primordial Messenger."
Old Believer Parker stopped occasionally as he walked ahead, partly to discern the path, partly to wait for the two women, insuring they wouldn’t get lost.
"In this city below... the most terrifying thing is to get lost."
Old Believer Parker remarked sentimentally,
"Outside the suburbs, there exist unknown ’Hunters,’ lurking in the shadows like specters, waiting for one after another to unintentionally step into their territory.
We generally call them ’Primordial Attendants.’ It is said they are beings that guard the Primordial Face of God, just as Angels guard the existence of Heaven."
Mira and Anos remained silent; stepping out from the Bone Church, they had come to know many more secrets.
The so-called "Primordial Attendants," said to guard the Primordial Face of God, were likely a fabricated name. God had no Primordial Face, much less would He create anything like the Angel-like "Primordial Attendants."
As for what the Primordial Attendants truly were, they couldn’t yet be clear.
As they approached the city below, Mira gradually heard some noises, and old Believer Parker quickened his pace, perhaps it was Mira’s illusion, but she seemed to hear Parker’s breath hasten, excitement filling his chest upon returning to the city below.
When Mira and Anos passed through the low city walls and entered the city below, the pervasive, thick darkness suddenly thinned, revealing a golden chain slashing across the sky above the whole city below, continuously emanating dazzling brilliance.
"That is..."
Anos asked softly.
"God’s grace."
Old Parker, as soon as he stepped into the city below, immediately knelt down, his hands joined together,
"This place was supposed to be the Land of No Light; no one, no matter how capable, could survive long in this darkness.
However, God’s grace arrived here, just like at the dawn of creation, the brilliance adapting into the great sun, illuminating all beings, this river of light is our sun here, shining upon us."
Old Parker ramblingly chanted Scriptures that were unfamiliar to Mira and Anos, belonging only to the Primordial Church.
Noise filled the city.
Chaotic sounds were everywhere, people in the streets and alleys jostling each other, heading towards the city square.
"What’s happening?"
Anos asked softly.
Old Parker hesitated for a moment, having lived in the city below for many years, he naturally could tell why the crowds were gathering.
"Whatever you know, just say it."
Mira turned her head, noticing Parker’s hesitation, and said in an undeniable tone.
Seeing this, Old Parker took a deep breath and slowly said:
"Madam, this is the Land of No Light, a place abandoned by God.
The Primordial Face of God has not yet appeared; it is because of this that the lecherous Church has been able to grow.
And here, belongs to the Primordial, God has abandoned the Primordial, but this is only temporary, the Primordial Face of God will eventually return!
We are all waiting for the day of its arrival, one generation passes, another comes; this is the destiny we bear."
Old Parker slowly explained.
Had the Primordial Envoy not delved into the understanding of the city below?
Old Parker thought this but quickly shook his head internally.
No, as a Primordial Envoy, how could they be unaware of the city below?
This must be her deliberate test, not only her testing him but God testing him through her!
Thinking this, Old Parker surged with excitement, continuing to speak:
"The reason the crowd is so noisy is due to a sacrifice.
In this land filled with dark curses, the dead cannot return to Heaven; they either fall into deeper darkness or turn into Evil Spirits that plague the city.
Because of this, we need the sacrifice, with sacrifices to please the Primordial, and the sacrificed will ultimately return to the cradle of the Primordial."
Old Parker detailed the matters of the sacrifice, its cruelty making the well-traveled Anos tremble. She could not imagine how generation after generation lived until today through the cycle of sacrifices and being sacrificed.
Mira furrowed her brows.
God clearly needed no sacrifice, let alone a blood offering.
Mortals offered up cattle, treasures, even their lives, but what benefit was there to God?
Mira knew this well, but it wasn’t time to reveal herself yet.
One day, she would no longer walk the earth as the mortal Mira, but as a true Messenger of God, with her own hands, she would reaffirm the supreme Law amidst the ruin and destruction of the Primordial Church!
She looked towards the crowded square and said softly,
"Lead me to see it."
Old Parker had no objections, he nodded and led the way again.
Anos looked at Mira somewhat surprised; she didn’t understand why Mira wanted to witness this heretical cult’s sacrifice.
But she didn’t say much, after all, she had said, this time it was her turn to listen to Mira.
Old Parker walked ahead, leading Mira and Anos in circles, searching for an open spot, barely squeezing to the front of the square.
Mira looked ahead, her pale blue eyes narrowed.
The scene before her was more brutal than she had imagined.
