Chapter 393: Chapter 348 God Pauses to Look Ahead
The brilliance of Heaven stood firm above the Cloud Sea.
Chen Yi walked upon the Cloud Sea, accompanied by Love God Lian Xidi and Solamus.
Solamus’s wings were folded, and he, following behind God, seemed eager to speak several times but stopped himself.
Chen Yi noticed this Great Angel’s movements and intentionally slowed his pace.
Finally, Solamus stepped forward and spoke softly,
"God, the stars are clamoring in the night."
Chen Yi did not stop walking but simply said,
"Why are the stars causing such a commotion?"
As he asked this, Solamus did not hesitate and spoke up,
"Because of the Law.
Indeed, since the advent of your kingdom, they have always had small complaints, but none dared to stand out. They always remember the story of that day."
The day Solamus referred to was when the Gods split and fought each other due to the arrival of Heaven, culminating in a day of rebirth.
The verification of the Prophecy, the descent of the Heavenly City, and the revival of all people—these miracles left an indelible memory among those self-important stars. Thus, these Divine entities both revered and feared the Father on the throne, each obeying the supreme Law without daring to walk in the Mortal World as they once did.
Although the Law did not prohibit the Divine from walking in the Mortal World, it was more stringent than the Covenant of the Gods during Shan’en’s reign and restricted the actions of the Divine even more.
For instance, in this world, human sacrifices were forbidden. The status of mortals was no longer seen as expendable livestock or a kind of blood-shedding offering. Although countless slaves still existed in this world, regardless of what people thought, the consensus of "God’s Children" had spread throughout the world.
Various religions believing in the Gods drew numerous experiences from the ceremonies, Scriptures, and preachings of the True Religion. They even borrowed stories from the True Religion to embellish their own propagated myths.
This development, whether intentional or not, made the Gods uncomfortable.
Each religion became more like the True Religion, every faith became more philosophical, and every myth sounded more like those of the True Religion...
These circumstances made the Divine feel that matters had gone beyond their control.
Certainly, some Divine longed for their believers to explore and think about them, but other Divine simply wanted unconditional obedience, and yet others wanted a purely transactional relationship.
Initially, the Gods did not discuss the existence of Heaven and Hell.
But now, three thousand years had passed. Although what happened on the Day of Rebirth still remained in memory, it had become unattainable with the passage of time.
We have followed His Law for three thousand years now, and since that’s the case, perhaps... it’s time our Father made concessions for us?
Solamus relayed these various discussions among the Gods to God.
God did not speak.
He simply gazed at the vast Cloud Sea, his eyes landing on the distant starry sky.
Lian Xidi looked at God in this state and felt an inexplicable pang of heartache.
Although the Love God was one of the Gods, He felt a closer kinship to the Father before him.
When He first awoke to self-awareness, He would often gently lean on God’s throne and fall asleep with His father’s company, an attachment that was etched into the depths of his soul over time.
"God, what are you thinking about?"
Lian Xidi stepped forward and asked softly,
"I want to share your burden."
Chen Yi turned to look at Lian Xidi and smiled gently,
"It’s nothing, Lian Xidi."
Lian Xidi took another step forward, plucking up the courage to press further,
"What do you want to do about them?"
Solamus was also curious and looked up at the standing God.
"No need, Lian Xidi. Let the stars run as they wish,"
Chen Yi swept across the distance and said lightly.
"The Law stands firm, and my thoughts remain in Heaven,
amid changing winds and clouds, the sky endures forever.
As the Star river twists and turns, I pause and gaze."
Anos picked up her pen several times but did not know how to proceed; the paper was laid out before her, the ink on the quill’s nib had already been dipped multiple times.
This letter was to be written to her father, the Emperor. Anos had already penned the ceremonial greeting, which appeared elegant and simple under the sunlight.
Faced with the letter before her, the Princess hesitated.
She certainly did not doubt her own father, but now, it was highly likely that the Night Watchmen had been sent by the Emperor, whose primary intent likely was to guard her safety.
Yet, Anos still worried about the small probability events.
As the saying goes, aside from the absolute God, nothing is absolute.
Anos held the quill, absently biting her finger as she thought.
The Night Watchman’s target was Mira, not me...
Why not me?
Because of my identity?
The assassination of an Imperial Princess within the Imperial City would undoubtedly cause a massive uproar.
"Could it be... they are trying to create a divide between my father and me?"
After much thought, Anos saw this possibility.
Instead of directly plotting against her and triggering a political storm within the Imperial City, it made more sense to plot against someone close to her, thereby fostering mistrust and creating a rift between her and her father.
Thinking this, Anos slightly put down the quill in her hand.
For now, she couldn’t let the Emperor know about the Night Watchman’s plot against Mira...
Rifts are easy to create but not so easily mended.
Anos reorganized her thoughts, quickly dipped her quill in ink, pulled out a new piece of paper, and began to write a completely new letter.
In this letter, Anos didn’t mention the assassination by the Night Watchman; instead, she strongly reiterated the infiltration of the Night Watchmen, reported her safety to her father, and informed Emperor Leo that she would conceal her whereabouts for a while until the matter was utterly resolved.
After writing the letter, Anos went to an unknown alley and summoned the Royal family’s carrier pigeon, giving it the folded paper to deliver to her father deep within the Imperial Palace.
"Is it done, Anos?"
Mira watched the departing pigeon and asked.
The two were nearly inseparable.
Anos trusted this child, even willing to open up her Golden Heart, undoubtedly one of her greatest secrets, and also a deep secret of the Delos family.
And Mira trusted Anos immensely.
"It’s done, Mira."
Anos watched the pigeon disappear, hugging her cloak,
"Could you keep me company for a while now?
We need to go to the Stone Mason Guild, it might be dangerous there."
Anos softly inquired Mira.
Then, just as she had anticipated, the girl gave an unwavering answer.
"By the name of God,"
Mira revealed a smile,
"Anos, I’ll accompany you anywhere!"
