Chapter 374: Chapter 330 The Same Ancient Language

The peril of this assassination attempt had far surpassed Anos’s imagination.

Earth Spikes kept surging from the ground, as Anos clambered up from the terrain in disarray, darting left and dodging right to continuously evade the successive attacks.

But, evidently, the assassin would not let Anos off so easily. The ground beneath her shifted and cracked at the very spots where she maneuvered, intent on tripping up the agile Princess.

Anos kept her eyes fixed on the bushes, though somewhat weary from the onslaught, she was only caught off guard because the attack was sudden. As long as she remained calm and found the right moment, she could still take the assassin’s life.

Just as Anos was contemplating her next move, another unexpected incident occurred.

Two surviving sword-bearing attendants rose from the ground. Seeing the Princess’s current plight, Herodotus was about to charge forward, to slice and dice the assassin hidden in the bushes. However, just as he advanced a few steps, the cold blade of a sword instantly pierced his abdomen.

Herodotus’s eyes widened. Those bandits had already fled in disarray under their assault; there was simply no chance they would return.

If so...

Olivia!

The other sword-bearing attendant offered a cold smile as she thrust her sword through Herodotus’s abdomen, then swiftly withdrew it. Herodotus collapsed rapidly, convulsing on the ground, struggling to rise and fight back. Olivia struck once more, mangling his intestines with her sword to ensure he could no longer struggle, leaving him with only the strength to moan.

Olivia paid him no heed; she strode forward, rushing towards Anos, who was still engaged with the assassin.

Anos had already witnessed Olivia murdering Herodotus and instantly realized that Olivia too was one of the perpetrators of the assassination—a mantis stalking the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind. The Princess had thought herself to be among the orioles, only to discover in the end that she was but another mantis.

Now was not the time for Anos to regret. She turned and dashed out of the woods; facing two opponents with no horse in sight left her with no chance of victory.

Olivia, along with another assassin, pursued her relentlessly. Tiny Earth Spikes kept emerging around Anos’s feet, attempting to slow her down, but in the throes of danger, she remained incredibly calm—dodging left then right, leaping over countless spikes with not a trace of panic on her face, as if she were devoid of any emotion.

However, the coordinated effort of two assassins was not so easily shaken off, and the fact that Anos was without her battle horse and forced to sprint on foot through the forest only made it harder. Olivia stayed on Anos’s trail relentlessly, intent on personally ending Anos’s life.

At last, Anos’s stamina began to falter. The trees in front of her thinned; the chances of escaping her pursuers faded further. The Princess furrowed her brow until a belated sense of crisis arose like a tidal wave. Her hand trembled slightly, but she quickly regripped her sword.

She spun around and swung her sword towards the charging Olivia.

"Rosa."

Once again invoking the Ancient Language, Olivia’s movements visibly slowed. Anos seized the opportunity and swung her sword from left to right with the blade mere moments from severing Olivia’s slender neck.

But as luck would have it, like rain worsening at night during a leaky roof situation, Anos’s feet were engulfed by densely packed Earth Spikes, which pierced through her boots and into her pale soles, making her bleed profusely.

Under the pain, Anos’s wrist flickered for an instant, the force she had mustered suddenly scattered, and the sword veered off course. Not only did it fail to cut through Olivia’s neck, but it merely slashed the thin fabric of her rider’s attire.

Olivia broke free from the Ancient Language’s restraints and a ghastly smile spread across her face. She raised her sword, aiming directly at the Princess’s unguarded neck.

Anos’s pupils contracted sharply. The blade aimed straight for her neck, death loomed above her head. In that trance, fear flashed by mixed with a sliver of relief.

She closed her eyes, bracing for death.

After a long silence...

The sword did not pierce her neck.

Anos slowly opened her eyes and then stared in astonishment at the scene before her.

Time had slowed to an unknown extent, as if it had stopped.

Olivia’s blade was still thrusting forward, but it hung in mid-air, advancing at the speed of a snail’s crawl.

And beside Olivia, a black-haired girl had appeared, scrutinizing Olivia and Anos with a puzzled gaze.

It seemed she was the one who had slowed down time.

After a moment, Anos exhaled slowly and enquired,

"Who, who are you?"

Then, she turned towards the slowed Olivia,

"Rosa," do you also speak the Ancient Language "Rosa"?

Mira, hearing the question, looked at Anos with a gentle smile.

"Yes, I do."

Anos stared at Mira somewhat oddly, feeling emotions no language could describe.

She was about to be stabbed in the throat by an assassin’s sword when suddenly, a girl appearing to be around thirteen emerged, stopping the assassination with the Ancient Language "Rosa."

How bizarre... It defied logic and common sense.

For a moment, Anos even thought she might already be dead, and the girl before her was just an illusion, a hallucination brought on by the Golden Heart in her chest.

Anos was slowly getting up from the ground.

"Who are you? Were you sent by my father?"

She asked while lifting her sword, ready to decapitate Olivia.

"Wait, what are you doing?"

Seeing the Princess’s action, Mira was momentarily stunned, hurriedly grabbing her hand.

Anos gave Mira an odd look.

"Can’t you see she was trying to assassinate me?"

Anos slightly lowered her sword, pointing at Olivia in front of her.

"But, but why?"

Mira asked with a puzzled face.

Anos raised an attractive eyebrow, looking at the girl in front of her, and suddenly speculated.

"Let me ask you first, why did you slow down time?"

She asked.

Mira pointed to a cliff not far away, speaking candidly:

"I glided down from that cliff with a glider, and while I was still in mid-air, I saw you fighting."

Listening to Mira’s somewhat naive words, Anos finally understood that the girl before her had no idea what was actually happening.

Furthermore, the Princess could infer that this girl was most likely not sent by her father to protect her, nor did she have any relationship with the group of stealthy assassins that had been lurking.

So then... where did this girl come from?

Why does she know the Ancient Language "Rosa"?

Curiosity surged in Anos’s heart, but now was not the time for meticulous thought, so she suppressed it and said, pointing at Olivia:

"They are assassins sent to kill me, and I am a noble of Danschel. For some reason, they’ve targeted me, and now, I intend to execute these assassins."

"Oh, is that so?"

Mira looked as if she had just understood, then she glanced at the two people whose time had been slowed and asked:

"Um... is it not possible to capture them alive?"

"..."

After a brief silence, Anos said:

"Of course."
