Chapter 330: Chapter 287: Visiting the Witch

When the Creator was making everything...

Where were we?

Lipo trembled at this question, his heart filled with unbearable entanglement.

Indeed,

where were the Gods?

The now resplendent Gods, worshipped by mortals, where had they been when the heavens and the earth were unopened?

At that time, could there have been a place for the Gods in the world?

The more Lipo thought about this question, the more he felt as if his pride had been torn to shreds and cast into the sea, gradually drifting away with the repeated surges, never to be found again.

He was the Forest God, known to the people of the earth as the mother of all trees.

However...

Even the forests that he governed, all that he took pride in, were the Creator’s creations.

"Hiris, we were nowhere."

After a long while, Lipo finally managed to give his difficult answer.

This answer was so difficult for the Divine to face, yet it was an undeniable fact.

"Lipo, the reason we are able to enjoy all this, the reason we can wield Divine Authority, is all because of His arrival; without Him, there would be no us.

Have you ever seen a child without a father?"

Hiris’s analogy was so clear and straightforward, Lipo understood it quite clearly.

But what he didn’t quite grasp was whether Hiris was speaking of the Father of Gods’ enormous power being too vast for all the Gods of the Celestial Kingdom combined to compare with, or whether since the Father of Gods had created everything, He wouldn’t easily allow it all to perish.

Or was it...

Both?

Lipo was somewhat unclear and didn’t understand; he had never comprehended the father of the Gods.

.........

Lipo had a long talk with Hiris, and after an entire half day had passed, Lipo’s understanding of the Father of Gods had deepened, but the fear in his heart still hadn’t dissipated.

That was a mysterious yet supreme existence, one that even many knowledgeable Divines knew very little about, so of course Lipo wouldn’t easily let go of his doubts.

Seeing that Lipo’s doubts were not clearing, the craftsman Hiris, after much thought, proposed to him:

"Instead of sitting here in fear, why don’t we go to the Mortal World and meet with that Witch?"

After hearing the proposal, Lipo thought for a moment and then nodded in agreement.

His agreement was due, first and foremost, to his sharp observation that, in the eyes of his friend Hiris, the Father of Gods did not seem to be a malevolent deity and had no intention of bringing destruction to the Country of Divines or to the whole world like the Primordial Will.

Out of trust for his friend, Lipo gladly accepted Hiris’s suggestion.

And so, Hiris and Lipo resolved to journey to the surface of the earth, in search of the Witch’s tracks.

Three days later, they had made all their preparations and descended from the Celestial Kingdom into the Mortal World, seeking the Secret Forest where the Witch resided.

However, as the saying goes, the course of the world’s affairs often turns out beyond expectation, and not even the high and mighty Divine are exempt from this truth.

The Forest God Lipo, known to mortals as the mother of all trees, the sovereign of spirit deer and the Secret Forest, upon arriving in the Mortal World, found himself unable to locate the very Secret Forest he had once set foot in.

The strangest thing was that Lipo knew of the witch in the woods, located to the southwest of this minor country within the Secret Forest. He knew which direction to take and had clear memories, yet he could never find the path leading there.

This naturally puzzled the Forest God, and a vague fear arose in his heart.

A mere mortal who could not only grievously wound the Fire God but also hide her whereabouts, eluding even the forest’s guardian.

What a terrifying mortal... This power, feared even by the Divine, was bestowed upon him by the master he served.

Thinking of this, Lipo shuddered involuntarily.

Merely an envoy, yet capable of such deeds...

Lipo hesitated to imagine just how vast the might contained within the father of the Gods was, the Witch’s spoken Country of Descent, and the upheaval His Laws would bring.

The more he thought, the more resolute Lipo became in his determination to find the Witch.

Although these past days were rife with setbacks on the journey to find the Witch, with no breakthroughs, as if her residence in the woods had vanished into thin air without leaving any trace, Lipo and Hiris did not give up. With patience, they trod the muddy earth like mortals, advancing step by step deeper into the Secret Forest.

And soon, they encountered the sights just as other mortals do when venturing deep into the Secret Forest.

Mist.

A thin veil of mist obscured the path ahead.

The mist seemed like the Witch’s guardian, not yielding a clear path unless permitted by its master, instead leading countless lost travelers astray.

And whether it could be considered fortunate or not,

Forest God Lipo and Hiris, the God of Mountains and Craftsmen, both Divine, successfully traversed the fog and saw a lantern flickering in and out of view. In a moment, they arrived before the vast residence in the forest.

The scene before them was serene, with tree hollows, herb gardens, bee hives... The witch’s dwelling seemed utterly ordinary.

"Is this the place, Lipo?"

Hiris asked, his expression somewhat tense.

And Lipo felt far more nervous than him, his hands clenched tightly, one holding a trembling branch.

In the past, Forest God Lipo had speculated about the origins of the witch in the woods. He knew she was no ordinary person, but his guess had only extended to a Fifth Rank envoy of the Divine, not further.

After all, in these times, it was nothing extraordinary for Divine beings to walk among the Mortal World, much less an envoy.

If one investigated every matter, it would be overly troublesome.

However, not until Hiris revealed that ancient history did Lipo realize the Witch’s background was far more complex than he had imagined.

"Yes, it’s here, Hiris."

Lipo paused before continuing:

"Right here, this Witch cut off a horn from my spirit deer to offer at my Temple and attract me here.

At first, I thought it was some audacious mortal— you know, some foolish mortals always presume to know better, often harboring disrespect towards the Divine."

Hiris showed a simple smile upon hearing this,

"It seems you were wrong, Lipo."

Lipo replied:

"If you encountered the same situation, you would be mistaken too, Hiris."

Hiris hadn’t yet had the chance to respond.

A series of hissing sounds emerged from the forest, and upon closer inspection, a python at least twice the height and four times the length of a man, watched the unexpected visitors warily.

Not long after, the door of the tree hollow gently swung open.
