Chapter 296 - 254 Angel’s Exorcism

Chapter 296: Chapter 254 Angel’s Exorcism

Solamus.

The Divine Angel, and now seen as the Holy Maiden of the Water God by the eyes of the priestesses.

In the temple of the Water God, countless people made all sorts of sacrifices, eagerly implored the Holy Maiden’s favor, and every day, foreigners trekked great distances just to catch a glimpse of the Holy Maiden’s august presence.

Some even quarreled with the priests because they couldn’t see the Holy Maiden, drew their bronze swords and caused an uproar in the temple, ultimately being stabbed to death by the spears of the city-state’s guards.

Outside this temple, nearly every day stirred up disputes over her, and countless people longed to hear the Holy Maiden’s voice, hoping to gain the Water God Angel’s patronage.

Faced with the outside world’s turmoil, Solamus always remained detached from it, scarcely stepping out of the temple except for attending major ceremonies.

One day, Solamus was in the study, browsing through the ancient books in her hands.

This place was a Coastal City where papyrus deteriorated easily and was difficult to preserve; moreover, thanks to the believers’ offerings, the temple was quite wealthy, which is why the books in the study were all made of sheepskin.

A girl around ten years old tapped on the slightly ajar door, then carefully entered the study.

"Holy Maiden..."

The girl spoke softly; her name was Bennice, and she was the youngest priestess in the temple.

Solamus turned and smiled warmly at her.

"Bennice... What message have you brought me?"

Solamus’s question was, in fact, a play on words, since the name "Bennice" means ’bearer of good news.’

Bennice smiled shyly, speaking softly:

"Holy Maiden, the old woman has sent me to urge you not to go out these days, absolutely not to go out."

The old woman was the temple’s old priestess, as well as the Main Priestess of the city-state.

Solamus asked in return:

"What does this mean? Isn’t it the Water God festival soon? Are you saying I shouldn’t appear even at the festival?"

The Water God festival was the city-state’s most solemn festival, where people worshipped the Water God, sang and danced, offered up various precious offerings, and a few days later, it was the season of the fish tide, so during the Water God festival, everyone wholeheartedly gave thanks for the Water God’s favor, hoping to be rewarded with a bountiful harvest from fishing.

Bennice looked around, then her expression turned nervous as she said in a low voice:

"There are ghosts in the city... many people have died."

"Ghosts?"

"Yes, I heard it from the other priests, there have been ghostly hauntings recently."

Bennice hesitated for a moment, then added:

"I eavesdropped on the old woman... She said that the female ghost comes every ten years... to take many lives, and a lot of the victims are men, of course, there are also many women..."

"Well, Bennice, you have brought me some bad news."

Solamus said with a smile.

Bennice clenched her fists and puffed out her cheeks, saying:

"Holy Maiden, this is no joking matter."

Solamus appeared unconcerned.

Seeing her reaction, Bennice added worriedly:

"You need to be vigilant,

that ghost has killed many people, I remember the old woman said she couldn’t do anything about her."

Solamus nodded thoughtfully.

Seeing Solamus take it somewhat seriously, Bennice felt relieved. The child took a step forward, glancing at the book in the Holy Maiden’s hands.

It was a fairy tale book.

Bennice was quite surprised.

Before she could voice her surprise, Solamus asked:

"Are you surprised?"

Bennice nodded astonishedly,

"Why are you reading this?"

"Because I need it."

Having said that, Solamus closed the book, just smiled and didn’t elaborate any further.

"Oh, a fairy tale?"

Bennice nodded half-understandingly, then asked.

"Yes, that’s mostly what they are."

Solamus replied.

Fairy tales originate from myths, and oftentimes, the boundary between the two is blurry. Therefore, in the library of the Temple, various fairy tale books are collected, which the Priests often use to educate young Priests about the age of Bennice.

Bennice stared at the fairy tale book and muttered,

"Fairy..."

"Do you want to be a fairy?"

Solamus saw through her thoughts and asked softly.

Bennice shook her head a bit embarrassedly, and then hesitated and nodded again.

Speaking of fairies, "Holy Maiden, you would be a fairy. How could I ever compare with you?"

Solamus pinched her cheek upon hearing this, and said softly,

"A fairy must be chaste and noble, yet perceptive and wise. They are like witches, but they don’t consort with desires; instead, they unite with virtue.

Most importantly, they refuse to be lukewarm and to turn a blind eye. When nobility is trampled upon, she will lend a hand and bestow the supreme sword, but when the noble act basely, the fairy must part ways with them, and the sword that commits evil with that person must be put to an end by her hand."

After listening, Bennice’s eyes sparkled, and she looked on with yearning.

"Holy Maiden, where did you learn this? How do you know everything?"

Solamus lowered his head, leaned close to Bennice’s ear, and whispered,

"I learned it from my father."

"Your father must be very wise!"

Bennice said innocently.

Solamus smiled and continued,

"He has seen much more than I have, and no matter how difficult a task, it’s not enough to exhaust his wisdom."

Bennice nodded, and the pure little girl couldn’t help but wonder who Solamus’s father really was.

Every Priest in the Temple knew that Solamus appeared out of nowhere, as if she had descended from the sky, and her past was shrouded in mystery, unknown to anyone.

After a while, Bennice slowly left the room.

Solamus looked at the fairy tale book in her hand and opened it again.

The reason she read such books was, for one thing, her Angelic nature, and secondly... these books related to an Ancient Language of her own.

"Fairy tale."

It was one of her favorite Ancient Languages.

Not long after, Solamus gently put down the fairy tale book.

She opened the window and gazed down at the city-states below from the high Temple.

Angels are extensions of God, as well as reflections of His divine radiance...

In the eyes of this Great Angel, closest to God, countless ethereal golden threads drifted through the air.

She closely observed the threads before her, countless mortals often being mere puppets of fate, though the mortals themselves did not know it.

"A specter..."

Solamus murmured thoughtfully.

According to the bits and pieces Solamus had heard these days,

every ten years at this time, there are always the most deaths.

And the death circumstances of those who died were gruesome and uncannily sinister...

A female specter, capable of doing evil year after year within a city-state, to the extent that even the Main Priests of the Water God were helpless and even avoided her.

There were even rumors that a Main Priest, because he attempted to exorcise the female specter, suddenly hanged himself one day in his later years, his head twisted with a chilling gruesome smile on his face as he died.

The origins of that female specter were probably not so simple.

She thought to herself and said with a smile,

"However, perhaps her origins are not as grand as mine."
