Chapter 268: Chapter 230: The Divine Statue of Lies and Tricks

Endora gazed at the dilapidated boudoir, where the woman who had died long ago still clasped the Heavenly Descending Gem that shimmered with light in her hands.

Baird had spent his entire life for this gemstone that could awaken his beloved.

Dragon God Endora extended a claw to grasp the brilliant gemstone and held it before His eyes.

Endora examined the sparkling Heavenly Descending Gem carefully and realized that it was definitely not as simple as mortals imagined, yet similarly, it didn’t possess the ability to satisfy all desires as mortals believed.

In the second prophecy of the early Golden Age of Prophetic God Kagawus,

Stars fell to the Mortal World, transforming into brilliant gemstones, their radiance flickering, inciting nations’ thirst, warfare ensued, and after passing through the hands of several monarchs, the outcome was unimaginable.

Every contender for this Heavenly Descending Gem, whether drawn by its legend or bewitched by it, developed illusions of the gemstone’s omnipotence.

Even as a Divine, Endora, after gazing at the gemstone for a long time, also faintly felt a desire to possess it.

Dragon God Endora gently tucked the gemstone into His bosom.

He had to return to the Celestial Kingdom to present this gemstone to Prophetic God Kagawus.

In just an instant, the figure of Dragon God Endora appeared in the Country of Divines, that magnificent Divine Kingdom towering amidst cosmos of floating clouds—the grand abode of the Gods, the condensation of Divine Power.

Endora slowly approached the Temple of Kagawus, and the Prophetic God Kagawus also stood at the entrance, having waited a long time already.

"Kagawus, Baird is dead," Endora stated.

Kagawus slightly nodded; Baird was the character spoken of in the first prophecy among the three He had once made.

In the face of this heroic character’s death, Kagawus’s emotions couldn’t help but fluctuate subtly.

But mortals are ultimately mortals, transient as dust when compared to the Gods in the Celestial Kingdom who live for thousands of years.

And Dragon God Endora, who revered the strong, despite not being excessively sorrowful about Baird’s death, would occasionally cast chilly glances toward the direction of the earth.

One generation rises, another declines, the winds of change blow, countless kingdoms have stood upon the earth, and after many a Wise King have penned their own stories, the legacy left for their descendants is often squandered by inept monarchs, turning even the greatest of heroic epics into a tale of bygone days.

"How many more battles will there be in this Golden Age, Kagawus? Have you prophesied?"

"Endora, prophecy is not almighty," Kagawus replied.

"Although I can see the direction of the Fate Line, I cannot tell you the exact future.

The world calls my prophecies ’mystical,’ yet I cannot see through the true course of fate."

Kagawus answered truthfully, having little to hide from one of the earliest awakened Divines.

Endora slightly nodded. Kagawus’s answer was not unexpected.

In fact, He did not need a precise answer, for He knew,

As long as people have desires, they will inevitably wage war; it’s an immutable law.

Even though the first civilization had been destroyed due to the greed of warfare, it was clear that the ensuing generations had not learned the lessons they should have from past history.

"Endora, do you not advocate for heroes? Do you not look forward to warfare?" Kagawus inquired.

"I am not the God of War, Kagawus," Endora replied slowly,

"The wars I desire are only to give birth to heroes.

War is merely a means, not an end."

After speaking, Endora did not linger on the subject, and from His bosom, He took out a gemstone that was crystal clear and presented it before Kagawus.

"What is this?"

Endora said:

"Heavenly Descending Gem."

"For the sake of this small object capable of creating illusions, countless mortals had their desires aroused and waged endless wars for it.

And after abandoning this Heavenly Descending Gem, this long-lasting war was also coming to an end."

Looking at the gemstone, Kagawus nodded slightly.

Endora took a step forward and placed the gemstone in Kagawus’s hand.

"I think it should be given to you, since Slaier is your Subordinate God."

Kagawus took the gemstone and softly said,

"Thank you."

"No need to thank me,"

With that, Endora stared at the Heavenly Descending Gem.

"This gemstone has also allowed me to witness innumerable heroes."

As the words ended, Endora said no more. They turned around and left the Prophetic Temple.

Kagawus slowly picked up the gemstone, carefully observing every detail of it as they slowly walked into the interior of the temple.

At the end of the Prophetic Temple, besides the Divine Statue of Prophetic God Kagawus, there was also a broken pedestal.

That had originally been the Divine Statue of Slaier, the god of lies and deceit. But ever since that audacious Divine broke the covenant of the Gods, and to fulfill a contract with mortals, severely wounded the secretive God Eho, Divine King Shan En and the other Gods had judged Slaier’s crimes.

Thus, the statue of the god of lies and deceit standing in the Prophetic Temple collapsed along with his shattered star.

"Slaier."

Kagawus murmured,

"...Heavenly Descending Gem."

The God of Prophecy suddenly fell into deep contemplation, like an old man in the twilight of life caught in a swamp of memories after a chilling wind, unable to extricate themselves for a long time.

At last, Kagawus sighed gently and placed the gemstone onto the pedestal of Slaier’s statue.

Time had passed, and the past had faded away. Other than memories, nothing else remained.

Kagawus once regarded Slaier as their own firstborn, but what of it?

Now, Antion had silently taken Slaier’s place as their second son and also as their prophet on Earth.

After giving the gemstone one long look, Kagawus quietly turned around and walked to the very depths of the temple, and the spacious hall of prophecy once again fell into silence.

For a long time, a very long time after, in this tranquil environment, the gemstone quietly emitted its glow.

The pedestal of the god of lies and deceit, after basking in the glow of the gemstone.

The dust on the pedestal rose slightly, then fell, then rose again, and not long after, it began to gather towards the gemstone as its center.

The entire process, even if a Divine were present, would have been imperceptible unless observed carefully.

The dust of the broken statue settled on the surface of the gemstone, merging into it like it dissolved in water. Inside the gemstone, at the very edge of its facets, in the center, under the pull of the light, slowly condensed.

It was as though it was slowly repairing something that had been broken.

After a long while, the dust of the broken statue gathered inside the gemstone to form a tiny eye.

The eye slowly opened and gazed upon everything before it.

This gemstone, as if because it had deceived enough people, collected enough lies and deceit, underwent an unprecedented transformation.

Transformed into a Heavenly Descending Gem, was it just to validate a prophecy?

What was Slaier’s true scheme?

Perhaps aside from the god of lies and deceit himself, no one could know.
