Only God
Chapter 248 - 213: The Afterlife of the Gods?

Chapter 248: Chapter 213: The Afterlife of the Gods?

Celestial Kingdom.

Since that astounding war, the Country of Divines no longer stood upon Historical Star. The Gods had lifted the vast Divine Kingdom from the Historical Star, separating it and gathering all of their Divine Power to ensure this glorious nation would forever stand amidst the stars.

Inside the Golden Hall,

Divine King Shan En gazed at the Divine being before him.

Death God Nakbet came before the Golden Hall, seeking an audience with the great King of Gods and requesting Divine King Shan En’s assistance.

"Wise Divine King," he hoped to create an afterlife realm that would receive souls.

Shan En, as if anticipating this, slowly said,

"Kagawus once mentioned your intentions to me.

But do you possess the capability to shoulder this task?"

Death God took a step forward, saying,

"Wise Divine King, I am well aware that, even as Death God, my abilities are limited to harvesting death. Crafting an afterlife realm is, for me, unimaginably difficult."

"That’s exactly why, Divine King, I hope to receive the help of a Divine. With Them, I can certainly create a Netherworld."

Divine King Shan En exhibited intense curiosity.

"Who is it?"

For all time, the Gods had never created an afterlife realm.

The Divines often witnessed believers lost in uncertainty about the afterlife, with not a single Divine able to provide a definitive answer.

Death was one of the most concerning topics for mortals.

Lacking an afterlife, the faith in the Gods was like a temple missing a crucial pillar—able to stand but destined to crumble in the face of disaster.

Yet it was not for want of trying that the Gods had not created a realm for the dead.

It was because they could not.

In this Celestial Kingdom, no Divine had penetrated the mysteries of death, nor did any possess the Divine Authority over death.

However, as times changed, the awakening of Death God Nakbet brought a turning point.

Death God looked up at Shan En on the throne and slowly said,

"Hiris, I need the imprisoned God of Mountains and Craftsmanship."

Divine King Shan En was momentarily taken aback.

Then, he bowed his head, lost in thought.

Death God Nakbet watched Divine King Shan En nervously, hands clasped tightly together, fearing Shan En might refuse.

Though he had mighty powers to harvest death, he could not retain souls.

To craft a resting place for souls, akin to the ancient trees upon the high mountains, Death God Nakbet needed help from many Divines.

Among them, Hiris, the God of Mountains and Craftsmanship, capable of forging nearly everything in the world, was paramount.

After a moment of hesitation, Divine King Shan En slowly said,

"Very well, I will allow Hiris to assist you, but this is not a pardon. It is an opportunity for Him to atone and lessen His sentence."

In that world-shaking war, the God of War Saima, having become a primal incarnation, had nearly brought ruin upon the entire Country of Divines. It was for this reason that Divine King Shan En sometimes felt guilty towards Hiris.

But guilt aside, the sacred covenant of the Gods was inviolable, and Shan En could not allow his own guilt to shake the order among the Gods.

Thus, taking advantage of the Death God’s proposal, Shan En enabled Hiris to atone and regain his freedom.

Death God Nakbet looked gratefully at Shan En, praising and thanking the King of Gods before leaving the Golden Hall.

Soon after,

Kagawus and Death God Nakbet arrived at the prison of the Country of Divines, where Hiris was the only prisoner confined within its Divine Power-sealing cells.

His form was not like the mortal world’s man and horse statues, but instead, a body constructed of ore.

"It’s you, the profound Prophecy."

Hiris spoke indifferently.

To this day, He harbored deep resentment for Shan En’s interference and His son’s death.

Therefore, the God of Mountains and Craftsmanship held no affinity for Kagawus, loyal to Divine King Shan En.

"Why do you grace me with your presence today?"

After speaking, Hiris saw the scythe-bearing Nakbet,

"Death God?"

"Skilled craftsman, we have a request for you."

Death God Nakbet stepped forward respectfully and said.

Hiris was honest in nature and bore no ill will toward Nakbet, so Hiris asked:

"What would you like to do?"

"We wish to create an afterlife world."

Nakbet replied.

"Afterlife world?"

This idea was beyond Hiris’s expectations.

"Please let Him out first."

Death God Nakbet said.

Kagawus nodded, reaching out his hand, and the seal on the prison was instantly lifted.

Hiris looked at Kagawus in amazement, then carefully pushed open the door of the prison and walked out.

"Hiris, Divine King Shan En hopes you can assist Nakbet, make amends for your mistakes, and reduce your sentence."

Kagawus slowly explained.

After speaking, His figure vanished in a flash, leaving Hiris and Nakbet alone for their conversation.

Facing the hard-won freedom, Hiris had no reason to refuse.

"Very well, you want to create an afterlife world?"

After stretching his limbs, Hiris looked at Nakbet, who held a scythe.

"I desire to welcome those souls after death."

Nakbet said longingly, His eyes clear.

Hiris took a deep breath and slowly asked:

"Do you know where those souls after death were originally destined for?"

"Ancient tree on a high mountain."

Nakbet answered.

Hiris added with some excitement:

"That is an ancient tree planted by our Father! It stood tall in this world long before we were born!"

Nakbet obviously failed to grasp Hiris’s meaning.

"What does that mean?"

"Nakbet, gentle Death God, you have never comprehended our Father’s might."

Speaking of the father of the Gods, Hiris’s voice was patient and calm,

"His divine power is more sacred than that of all the Gods combined, His existence is something all of the Gods together cannot reach."

Hiris’s narration sparked a hint of longing in Nakbet’s eyes.

"He... created an afterlife world, did He?"

Nakbet asked longingly.

Hiris nodded slightly.

"What a miracle."

The Death God said.

He turned and gazed out at the world beyond the borders of the Celestial Kingdom.

Nakbet’s state of mind resembled that of a child with dreams, hearing that a great hero once accomplished a similar dream—an admiration and veneration impossible to articulate in words.

"Hiris,

let us emulate Him."

Death God Nakbet said excitedly.

Hiris was taken aback for a moment, having brought up the supreme Father intending to dissuade Death God Nakbet.

"What are you thinking?

Our Father possesses supreme might, and for that reason, He could create a place to house souls.

What do we possess? Our power doesn’t even amount to one ten-millionth of the Father’s."
