Chapter 199 - 173: Battle of Ajia

Chapter 199: Chapter 173: Battle of Ajia

This was a war among heroes.

Either glory or death.

Minstrels looked out over the battlefield, singing odes to the valiant warriors.

In this war, heroes gathered.

Chariots roared, and the neighing of steeds echoed across the land.

King Chenfeng, astride a tall horse, furrowed his brow as he watched the approaching Three-eyed Ape People, his heart filled with melancholy.

He was about to raise his hand, commanding the Beastmen to temporarily retreat.

Suddenly, a towering figure stood up among the crowd.

It was a centaur, towering over ordinary men, carrying a spear and a mighty bow, and holding a bronze sword, his presence so formidable it could bend thunder.

King Chenfeng looked over,

"Shanon, what do you intend to do?"

"My King,

I implore you to let me enter the battlefield,

and teach me to contend against Baird upon that chariot."

Shanon declared with firm posture.

His intense self-confidence infected all the heroes present, who looked toward King Chenfeng, the leader of the allied forces, with pleading eyes, together demanding to do battle with those heroes of Ajia.

The prairie winds swept across the land; the King, hearing the heroes’ plea, promptly raised his sword high, no longer hesitating.

The Beastmen shouted in unison, and the heroes took the lead, galloping across the vast land, charging at those Three-eyed Ape People of Ajia.

Leading them, the centaur Shanon, filled with fury, continuously fired his mighty bow.

Opposite, Tusi raised his shield to block the Flying Arrows, his shield violently shaking.

The centaur galloped swiftly, suddenly swerved, and two arrows, quick as lightning, pierced through the horses pulling the chariot, which cried out in pain.

The steeds were ruthlessly deprived of life.

Ajia’s hero, Tusi, leap from the chariot, sword in one hand and shield in the other, his heart terrorized by Shanon’s mighty bow.

The centaur grabbed his spear, bellowed, and clashed fiercely with Tusi.

It was a battle fierce as lions and tigers, the centaur charging with incredible speed; his powerful spear heavily struck Tusi’s shield.

Tusi staggered back, disheveled and lacking his initial grace.

At that moment, the infallibly precise Medes, driving a chariot, arrived,

Tusi was fortunately rescued, now Ajia’s heroes shared a common enemy.

Shanon entangled with both foes, his voice roaring, drew his bronze sword from his waist, and swung it. The sword light splashed across the ground, its ferocious power causing both enemies to cower in fear.

Despite Medes’ arrows hitting their marks, they could not leave a scratch on the centaur’s armor.

The two heroes were terrified; they did not know that it was Shanon’s father, Hiris, god of mountains and craftsmen, who had created this.

The gift for his son, an indestructible bronze sword and exceptionally sturdy armor.

Even as Tusi struck several times, issuing a sound like metal clashing, he could not make Shanon even breathe heavily.

On the battlefield,

Three-eyed Ape People and Beastmen fought indistinguishably.

Baird had already jumped down from his chariot, revealing the Dragon Scales on his body.

He held a sword in one hand and a spear in the other, battling the Beastmen on the battlefield.

He alone was like a flood, suddenly breaking through the enemy’s lines with endless force.

The powerful tiger-man Patro, the lofty lion-man Torras, and the cunning serpent-man Chira.

Heroes each wielding a sword, yearning to defeat a fellow hero.

They couldn’t wait to tear into their adversaries, their battle fervor surging.

Yet that Baird was like a Giant Dragon.

Dragon Scales covered his entire body, wings spread wide, and a fierce wind arose.

Upon this glorious battlefield, Baird was a hero among heroes.

He alone battled against three Beastman heroes,

Tiger-man Patro was pushed back step by step, Lion-man Torras’s Giant Shield vibrated continuously,

And the ease with which he did it sent chills down one’s spine.

The cunning Snake-man Chira shot a hidden arrow,

Even though it could pierce armor, it could not pierce his Dragon Scale.

Baird’s immense strength allowed him to sever Patro’s Longsword,

At this critical juncture.

Shanon’s hooves kicked up swirling dust.

He shook off two heroes from Ajia just to battle with Baird.

Faced with Shanon, Baird roared, his immense deterrence shocking even the heroes.

For a moment, the sky darkened and the earth grew dim.

Dressed in Divine armor, Shanon charged at Baird with his spear at the forefront.

The heroes quickly reacted, each brandishing their swords with resolute battle intent, today’s battle was destined to become a song.

And those heroes from Ajia, too, flocked to the scene, their roars echoing one after another.

The vast earth was covered in dust and smoke, the sky dimmed and the Earth darkened.

On the battlefield,

Either glory or death.

......

This war lasted from morning until afternoon, with no clear victor, ending in mutual retreat and a draw.

The heroes from Ajia, even in a draw, still received cheers and support from the masses upon their return behind the city walls.

And Baird’s feat of battling four enemies spread quickly throughout the Royal City, thanks to the rapid retellings of the Minstrels.

Noen witnessed the whole war, with all on the battlefield stirring the heart’s tide, the heroes’ figures growing ever more splendid amidst the struggle.

But...

For some reason, Noen always had an ominous premonition.

This war had started because of a Heavenly Descending Gem, yet no one knew the origins of this gem that had fallen from heaven, which was indeed mysterious.

Leaning on the Priest’s Staff, Noen slowly headed back to the new Pattern Garden within Ajia Royal City.

As he neared the abandoned Temple, Noen suddenly thought of something.

"Nine years ago... Slaier... His Star crossed the sky."

Thinking of this, Noen’s eyes widened.

Although Noen did not witness Slaier’s actions in the Celestial Kingdom,

He knew that on that day, Slaier had paid a great price to break the Barrier shielding the Ancient Elf Kingdom.

And that streak of light sliding across the sky was undoubtedly Slaier’s Star.

"The so-called Heavenly Descending Gem, could it be..."

Noen exclaimed,

"Slaier’s Star?"

Noen’s intuition told him, this guess was very close to the truth.

"...Could it be, Slaier is plotting something?"

Noen murmured.

With no further information, Noen’s train of thought abruptly stopped.

He took a deep breath and slowly walked toward the abandoned Temple.

Perhaps...

This war over the Heavenly Descending Gem.

Was far from being as simple as it appeared.
