Chapter 175: Chapter 151 Not Every Race is Favored by the Divine_2
Noen looked up and for some reason, he felt an eerie atmosphere pervading the entire tribe.
"You all stand here."
After finishing his words, the young Druid immediately sought out the leader of the tribe, referred to as the Oak Sage by them.
After the young Druid temporarily left, Baird suddenly spoke:
"The curse...
This place... it seems to be cursed."
His voice was not loud, only Noen and Casas could hear him.
The two of them looked at Baird in succession.
"My beloved is deep in the throes of a curse... This place gives me a feeling similar to the curse afflicting her."
Baird explained to the two in a low voice.
A curse, huh...
Noen fell into a moment of contemplation.
Then, he lifted his head.
They had come here for the Wish Stone.
But for the Druids, the Wish Stone might be a treasure beyond measure.
If...
If they could lift the curse here...
With that thought, Noen made up his mind.
Before long, the young Druid returned.
"Come with me, I’ll take you to see the Oak Sage."
Everyone promptly followed the young Druid towards the massive altar, and as they passed by the Divine Statue, Noen saw the bloody offerings on the altar.
There were human hands, legs, peeled-off skin, and desiccated hearts.
It was like some kind of ominous ritual, a rite that brought misfortune.
After passing the Curse God statue, the group arrived at a Flower Garden surrounded by oak trees, where an old Druid sat in the middle, waving his wrinkled hands as if carving something.
The Oak Sage turned his head and saw the group.
"Hello."
His aged fur hung down and fluttered in the wind.
Before the group could even disclose their intentions, the old and wise Oak Sage suddenly said:
"I can tell from your eyes that you are not lost."
The group was taken aback; they hadn’t expected the Oak Sage to see through their purpose at first glance.
"How did you know?"
Casas couldn’t help but ask.
The Oak Sage chuckled and slowly said:
"The earth told me.
We Druids were crafted by the Curse God using spiritual deer.
When we were still spiritual deer, we already knew how to listen to the voice of the earth."
The group nodded their heads, indeed they had heard related legends.
"Speak then, what is it you’ve really come for?"
Noen stepped forward and spoke softly:
"I cannot tell you, Oak Sage.
But I do know that you are deeply plagued by a curse."
The Oak Sage, upon hearing this, hesitated for a moment, then looked at Noen incredulously.
The old man, who had witnessed the tribe’s many trials and tribulations, was now engulfed in profound shock.
"How did you notice..."
Immediately after, he whispered in a voice only the two could hear, trembling:
"That is a curse laid down by Curse God Yikabe!"
A curse from Yikabe?
Noen maintained his composure, suppressing the turmoil inside of him.
The Oak Sage’s ancient eyes widened.
This man... how could he be so composed?
Could it be... he knew how to lift the curse?
The Oak Sage took a deep look at Noen,
"Who, who are you really?!"
Then he glanced at the others,
"And what about you all?"
"I am Noen,"
Noen feigned calmness as he spoke:
"One who has made a pact with the Divine."
As the words fell on the old Druid’s ears, the Oak Sage abruptly fell into silence.
Noen keenly observed the old Druid’s antlers trembling in the wind.
Then, the old Druid spoke:
"Let the others leave first, let’s talk alone."
......
It wasn’t long before the young Druid and the Three-eyed Ape People, except for Noen, left the Flower Garden.
The Oak Sage led Noen slowly towards the deeper parts of the forest.
Noen did not know where the Oak Sage was taking him, but he still remained calm.
Just like not long ago,
It was actually Baird who had seen through the curse,
Yet his calmness,
The old Druid was led to believe that he had seen through the curse.
"Noen... that’s right."
The Oak Sage slowly said,
"You should know, in the eyes of you Three-eyed Ape People, we Druids live in harmony with the world, chasing elks and serving nature for joy."
Noen slowly nodded.
"But actually, we Druids are a race tormented by a curse."
The Oak Sage said with a bitter smile.
"This... what is going on?"
Noen asked,
"Does it have to do with the Curse God?"
"Of course, it has to do with the noble Yikabe, but, it also involves more than just Him,"
the Oak Sage murmured as he moved forward,
"The curse on us is also related to... those legendary Logos people."
Noen’s pupils shrank.
But he quickly regained his composure.
"Noen, you’ll understand soon."
The Oak Sage said.
Passing through layers of leaves, the Oak Sage brushed aside obstructive branches, leading Noen deep into the forest.
As soon as they reached that deep place, Noen heard a lifeless cry.
"Bolan, died of the curse!"
"Anger, died of the curse!"
"Belov, died of the curse!"
Noen couldn’t help but take a sharp breath; he stepped forward abruptly and then saw an extremely horrifying scene.
A vast pit lay before them, filled with hundreds of corpses—rotted, fresh, reduced to bones, recently deceased... All sorts of dead bodies were strewn about in the pit, their manner of death varied, but their expressions of pain and sorrow were strikingly similar.
The stinking black blood mixed with fresh blood, and bile churned in Noen’s stomach.
What horrified Noen even more, was that in the pit, one by one, living people were slowly crawling out, their expressions almost conveying a sense of satisfaction for having avenged a great vendetta.
"Brother against brother, kin devouring kin,
Noen, this is our curse."
The Oak Sage, long numb to this, lifted his hand, pointing towards a cauldron outside of the pit,
"The potion in that cauldron allows the Druids who leave here to forget all that they’ve recently experienced.
And this, is already Yikabe’s greatest mercy."
"This, this... what exactly is going on?!"
Noen looked at the Oak Sage, asking in astonishment.
"We... were created by the Curse God Yikabe."
The Oak Sage turned his face, and in those old deer eyes, tears were welling,
"Noen, not every race is blessed by their divine.
For the Curse God,
we are creations, as well as playthings."
The Oak Sage slowly confided,
as if disclosing the fate of the Druid clan.
"That noble Curse God,
He occasionally casts curses upon us.
And we Druids, must struggle on this Earth, must offer sacrifices, and endure countless trials to find the multitude of remedies that will lift the curse.
Only by doing so can we win Yikabe’s favor, and please the Curse God.
Since our ancestors, the Druids have been trapped in this curse."
Noen watched those Druids drink the potion, forgetting their own fratricide.
He was profoundly shaken.
For three thousand years, this tribe that listened to the voice of the Earth had endured countless curses...
Cursed time after time, and time after time seeking release from these curses,
only by doing so, could they win Yikabe’s favor and pleasure.
It was like the spirals that Druids drew on the oak trees, repeating the same history on different people at different times.
The Oak Sage stared at the huge pit,
"This curse has tormented us for three generations.
It was the longest-lasting curse in history, starting from my grandfather’s father, and still now; we have found no remedy to lift the curse."
"What is your curse... exactly?"
Noen turned back and asked.
"The noble Curse God bestowed upon us a historical curse."
"A historical curse?"
Noen continued asking.
The Oak Sage lifted his eyes, looking directly into Noen’s, and declared word for word:
"Have you heard?
Thousands of years ago, there was a king named Sapo.
In the distant past,
Yikabe had revealed to our ancestors of the Logos the tale.
Before his death, the Sapo King laid a curse on the sons of the Prophet.
The King cursed them to fratricide, to kin devouring kin,
and the Curse God Yikabe, for His own pleasure,
bestowed the same curse, unaltered, upon our entire race."
