Chapter 155: Chapter 133: The King’s Two Wishes
For some reason, the old Priest felt an inexplicable panic.
These days, he had been helping Queen Isis carry out her schemes.
Especially the Witch brought by Queen Isis.
The Witch managed to step into the residences of many Nobles within a short time and heal the prominent people of the Royal Capital, all thanks to the old Priest.
It was he who, relying on his status as a Priest, introduced the Witch to the Nobles.
The old Priest initially thought this Witch was merely relying on unique herbs or superb medical skills to heal others.
However, when the old Priest had deeper interactions with those healed Nobles, he realized the Witch’s herbs were nothing out of the ordinary, something any Priest familiar with medicine could easily recognize.
Yet those ordinary herbs seemed to possess a unique Magic Power in the Witch’s hands.
According to the Nobles, the most peculiar aspect of her healing was making a wish with a glowing stone; with each person she cured, the stone dimmed a bit more.
This shocked the old Priest immensely.
If it were just a special Witch, the old Priest would not panic, after all, Witches always have their ways in stories.
The key issue was that at first, Queen Isis merely told him that it was just a Witch in disguise, yet the more the old Priest observed, the more he felt she was a real Witch.
Faced with the old Priest’s questions, his niece did not deny it but admitted openly that she was indeed a real Witch.
"Yes, uncle, she’s a Witch I sought from the Druids, a real Witch.
But now that things have come to this point, there’s no turning back. For my happiness, think of my father!"
His niece’s words completely silenced the old Priest, guilt overwhelmed him.
He was the one who had killed Isis’ father.
After responding to the old Priest’s inquiries, Queen Isis assured him time and again that she merely wanted to eliminate Esia to secure her position as Queen.
"Uncle, don’t you wish to remove that favorite, to see me happy? You know, how many Ministers and Nobles have accused that Esia of bewitching His Majesty and disrupting the court!"
Queen Isis temporarily convinced the old Priest, but he always felt something was not right, even if he couldn’t articulate it yet.
He felt the Queen might be hiding something from him.
With a heart full of unease, the old Priest accompanied the Witch summoned by Queen Isis, slowly ascending the Palace steps under everyone’s welcoming gaze.
The old Priest lifted his eyes, his aged gaze fixed upon the long steps before him.
A Three-eyed Ape Person in his life could use the power of the Eye of Prophecy only thrice, and with his advancing years, he had already used his three chances in the past.
Now, no matter how uneasy he felt, the Eye of Prophecy could no longer use its power.
Entering the palace suffused with the fragrance of incense, where frankincense and myrrh mixed together, evoked the old Priest’s long-sealed memories.
He didn’t know how long it had been since he last came to the Palace, to have an audience with the King, and now he couldn’t help feeling somewhat ill at ease.
In contrast to him, the Witch’s every action was extremely calm.
It was as if she had long been accustomed to such scenes, utterly indifferent.
The old Priest had never seen anyone so serenely composed.
As they approached King Oton’s throne, they found it already surrounded by Nobles and Ministers.
The Nobles and Ministers made way for the two to stand before the King.
"Priest, it’s you."
King Oton certainly recognized the old Priest, showing some surprise.
The old Priest had previously been highly respected in the Great Temple, and were it not for that incident, he should have been the one to inherit his elder brother’s position as the High Priest.
His reputation was impeccable among the Priests, and he certainly would not have deceived the King.
Seeing the old Priest, King Oton dispelled his last doubts.
"It is I, Your Majesty, the most honored person of Ajia."
The old Priest bowed respectfully to King Oton.
But the Witch did not move an inch.
It seemed as if the King of Ajia was of no consequence in her eyes.
King Oton didn’t mind the Witch’s discourtesy; his only desire was to soon cure his lover’s illness.
"So, you’re that famous Witch with superior medical skills?" King Oton asked, looking directly at the Witch.
"It is I."
The Witch stated blandly, seemingly always laconic.
King Oton was taken aback; in the Witch’s voice, he detected not the slightest trace of awe.
Even so, King Oton did not chastise the Witch, for he was not an easily angered Monarch.
"Please come with me, Witch, to heal my lover, to relieve him of his pain."
Queen Isis watched her husband, silently musing to herself:
"All the pain."
The old Priest swallowed, watching the Witch follow the King into the corridor leading to the royal chambers.
And the beautiful Queen, after gently greeting everyone, followed in their footsteps, gradually walking into the royal chambers.
Within the Palace, with the King, Queen, and Witch all gone, the Noble Ministers immediately plunged into buzzing discussions.
"Does that Witch truly have the miraculous powers as rumored?"
"I’ve heard she’s incredibly enigmatic."
"Hasn’t anyone been healed by her? By the name of Kagawus, he must swear to tell us the truth."
...
Amidst the debating voices of the Ministers, both firm belief in and appropriate skepticism about the Witch were present.
In these noisy discussions, many people brought up the old Priest.
The old Priest deliberately ignored these conversations, walking alone to a corner, secretly exhaling deeply.
"Nothing should go wrong... God, Kagawus, I beseech you to let things go smoothly."
The old Priest muttered to himself, trying hard to reassure himself.
Nonetheless, in his heart, he carried a restlessness that was difficult to soothe.
He lifted his wrinkled face, his aged eyes staring down that corridor leading to the royal chambers, waiting with a trace of panic, yet with patient anticipation.
......
............
King Oton led the witch and the queen to the bedchamber.
The heady scent of burning spices filled the air, the walls adorned with colorful murals, and the floor covered in rugs made from the pelts of exotic creatures like the winged tiger, with vessels of cast bronze scattered throughout the room.
This was undoubtedly the bedroom bequeathed to successive kings and queens through the royal lineage.
Yet now, atop that noble bed lay a lowly stone slave.
King Oton drew back the curtains and rolled them up to allow the witch to observe Esia’s condition.
Queen Isis stood to the side, in an excellent position, with a view that nearly encompassed the entire room.
She kept her distance from the king and Esia.
She intended to watch this drama from the sidelines.
The witch approached Esia, the king’s lover on the bed, whose face was so pale it looked dreadful, his flesh withered and clinging to his bones, beads of cold sweat yet to dry upon his forehead and limbs.
Noticing someone’s approach, Esia slightly opened his eyes.
The sight of the unfamiliar witch made him show a panicked expression, almost leading to a shrill scream.
Thankfully, King Oton quickly grasped his lover’s hand, consoling him in a gentle tone,
"Be calm, my Esia, my love, this is the witch who can heal you. I swear by Kagawus, she will surely relieve you of your pain."
Queen Isis, observing from the side, turned ashen and felt nauseated.
But the witch remained unmoved, her demeanor indifferent.
Esia soon calmed down, but he was still anxious and asked frantically,
"What will she use to heal me?"
Hearing this, King Oton looked towards the witch and said firmly,
"Witch, tell me what you will use to heal him. You must tell me, for I am the king here."
The witch glanced at Oton and said simply,
"Wish Stone."
With that, she extracted a stone from her robe, which emitted a faint glow.
"With the right ritual, it will grant your wish.
Currently, it has two wishes left."
Oton stared at the stone in amazement; he had not anticipated the witch would heal with such a miraculous object.
"If this is real, it’s truly a gift from the gods."
Upon hearing this, Queen Isis laughed genuinely from within.
To others, it was a sincere smile, filled with a wife’s tender love for her husband.
But in truth...
What exactly the queen was laughing at, only she knew.
Oton immediately seized his lover’s hand, saying,
"Two wishes? There are two wishes left?
Witch, I beseech you as the king, use both wishes for my sake!
I am willing to repay you with endless gold, silver, and jewels."
The king’s expression was anxious and greedy.
Contrary to Oton’s expectations, the witch happily accepted his request.
"Good, good, good!"
King Oton exclaimed excitedly, looking towards Esia.
The first wish, Oton planned to use to cure his lover’s illness.
And the second wish, this sentimental king intended to use for his own love—the perfection of love.
"Now cast your magic, witch, and remove the pain from Esia."
"First, make your wish to it, King."
The witch held up the Wish Stone.
King Oton gazed at the Wish Stone and said instinctively,
"Please fulfill my wish, heal my Esia’s illness, and restore him to full health."
The Wish Stone seemed to accept King Oton’s wish, flickering with a pale light.
Thereafter,
King Oton stepped back, allowing the witch to approach Esia on the bed.
The witch walked up to Esia.
She extended her hand, retrieving various herbs from her robes.
"Your complexion must improve, for the illness shall be expelled."
Chanting, the witch placed one of the herbs on Esia’s face.
"Your cold sweat must stop, for the fear shall be erased."
Another herb was placed on Esia’s hands.
"Your limbs must no longer tremble, for the impurities shall be cleansed."
...
Continuing to chant the spells, the Wish Stone glowed faintly under the enchantment of this magical rite.
To Oton’s astonishment, under the light’s immersion, Esia’s pale complexion gradually regained its color, the cold sweat slowly dried, and his limbs steadily ceased to tremble.
Esia, tormented by sickness... was going to recover!
The light slowly faded away, revealing Esia slowly pushing himself up, climbing off the bed.
He looked at his body in amazement, then lifted his eyes to Oton, tears of relief brimming.
The king rushed over and took hold of his lover’s shoulders.
Oton and the now-healed Esia embraced, their tears of overwhelming joy soaking the bed.
They had thought their love would be mercilessly taken by the disease.
But now, thanks to the wondrous witch and the magic power of the Wish Stone, their love, which had been on the brink of peril, was unexpectedly regained, the vast joy sending shockwaves through their hearts.
Their chests pressed tightly against each other.
