Only God -
Chapter 126 - 110
Chapter 126: 110
King Dertulian was eight hundred and sixty-one years old.
Even for the Logosians, who were known for their longevity, most would have already said goodbye to the world by his age.
Dertulian had aged, too, his body becoming weaker every day. His hair had completely lost its color and luster, and his skin sagged and wrinkled.
Yet Dertulian was still alive.
Since establishing the New Kingdom in this place akin to a new world, Dertulian had spent nearly four hundred years here, overcoming illnesses with his tenacious vitality.
Thus, Dertulian, the second son of the Prophet, still ruled the Kingdom.
The scenery of the New Kingdom contrasted starkly with the old kingdom beneath the mountains.
The thousands of Logosians brought here by Dertulian relied on dense forests and abundant game, resuming a dual life of hunters and priests.
They had wheat, pottery, and livestock, just like the old kingdom, but unlike the old kingdom, these were mere embellishments. Their lives mostly revolved around the beautiful forest—simple yet not dull, spreading plain joy across the land.
Perhaps for this reason, the nature of the Logosians here hadn’t changed for centuries.
Although they were far from God’s high mountain, they resembled the Logosians from hundreds of years ago more than those in the old kingdom.
The New Kingdom was situated on an alluvial plain, surrounded by mountains which were majestic and grand. Sometimes, the people of the New Kingdom would call themselves the Mountain People.
Ever since the old kingdom’s slate about the Three-Eyed Ape People was sent over by a Unihorn, the term "Elves" had become popular within the kingdom; it was simply too lovely to resist.
Occasionally, these Logosians would refer to themselves as:
Mountain Elves.
In the eyes of the people of the New Kingdom, it was an exceedingly beautiful and fitting name.
Limited by the perilous hunting life, the instability of hunting, and a large gender imbalance among the thousands who embarked on the boat initially, the population of the New Kingdom rarely saw explosive growth—only reaching around nine thousand people four hundred years later.
A long life and simple needs fostered good character among these Mountain Elves.
The rational crisis that had struck the old kingdom did not stir a devastating wave that could drown the New Kingdom.
The Unihorn brought the slate from the old kingdom to King Dertulian.
It was carved immediately after the death of the Angel by King Dovlo.
King Dertulian was utterly shocked as he looked at the contents of the slate, reading every word over and over.
An Angel came down to earth and was killed by the Logosians.
The slate recounted only one event, and the inscriptions were extremely hurried, each sentence revealing immense panic.
King Dertulian finished reading all the narratives on the slate.
It was like his own experience from four hundred years ago, where the remnant image of God appeared through the leaves.
However, this time it was not about salvation, but because the Logosians had executed His Angel.
On the throne, King Dertulian set down the slate, his heart overwhelmed with shock.
King Dertulian stood up from the throne somewhat shakily and paced incessantly around the palace.
The palace of the New Kingdom was crafted by hollowing out the core of a towering tree, thus the sound of King Dertulian’s steps was soft, making it difficult for the guards to detect his worry from the footsteps.
After much inner conflict, King Dertulian finally made a decision.
"Have the High Priest come here."
The New Kingdom also had a Pattern Garden and the priests of the Pattern Garden, modeled after the original one.
Shortly after King Dertulian’s order, the High Priest of the New Kingdom hurried into the palace.
"King,
what calls me to your presence?"
King Dertulian rose from his throne and walked slowly toward the High Priest of the New Kingdom.
"High Priest, this is the slate from the old kingdom. Take it, and read it to the people of the kingdom in the name of God. Read everything on it exactly as it is."
King Dertulian instructed solemnly, leaving the High Priest visibly confused.
The High Priest quickly glanced at the contents of the slate and then, his face slowly turned pale.
"Killed... the Divine Angel?!"
The High Priest trembled, nearly dropping the slate.
After a long while, the High Priest had repeatedly read through the content on the slate, his face dripping with sweat.
"King... should we really announce the content of this slate?!"
The High Priest’s voice was tearful.
King Dertulian nodded slightly, his voice grave:
"Matters of the Kingdom must be announced to the people of the Kingdom."
After hesitating, the High Priest nodded slightly. He held the slate and was assisted by King Dertulian as they walked out of the palace.
......
Thus, the Logosians’ execution of the Angel and the arrival of another rational crisis were made known to the Mountain Elves.
The Mountain Elves naturally fell into a moment of panic, but it was just that—a moment.
They hadn’t executed the Angel, they hadn’t thrown the stones; the Mountain Elves found it hard to empathize deeply with this grand rational crisis.
Although many Mountain Elves felt guilt or remorse, those feelings didn’t reach their bones.
"King, what should we do?"
After the High Priest had finished reading the words on the slate, he asked King Dertulian.
"What do you think we should do, High Priest?"
King Dertulian lifted his aged face, his eyes piercing.
"I... I’m not sure, perhaps we should... help them?"
The High Priest said in a trembling voice.
"That’s impractical, High Priest."
King Dertulian sighed heavily and said in a low voice:
"The old kingdom is not facing an apocalypse or a flood, nor foes like Flying Dragons. If we help them, what exactly are we helping with?"
Upon hearing this, the High Priest nodded somberly.
As King Dertulian said, the old kingdom faced not external threats but internal, invisible worries—a rational crisis.
Even if the entire New Kingdom went to help, it would be of no use, and might even worsen the situation.
This rational crisis could only be resolved by the old kingdom itself.
