Only God
Chapter 124 - 108: Assassination of the Prince

Chapter 124: Chapter 108: Assassination of the Prince

The illegitimate son Bandi and Orenmo, blood of the Sapo King, watched all this from the sidelines.

In the city-states far from the Royal Capital, they had not witnessed the descent of God.

Therefore, these two ambitious men were not mired in this crisis of rationality, on the contrary, they both realized that this crisis could become their aid.

An aid to their struggle for the throne.

Now, within the Royal Capital, King Dovlo and Rui Ying, who accused Basel and pronounced the execution of the Divine Angel, were deeply engulfed in the vortex’s center.

They had to endure tremendous pressure every day and tread carefully to maintain the foundations of their rule.

Bandi was the first to realize this.

As a bastard, he looked down upon people like Basel, however, he recognized that the name "Basel" was a banner that could be wielded to his advantage.

Moreover, Bandi had once been a member of the Vanguard.

Thinking this, Bandi’s hands began to tremble uncontrollably.

A godsend, a godsend!

It was as if God had arranged it all, paving a clear path to the throne for him, as an illegitimate child.

Bandi gathered the forces he’d accumulated over the years and in the city-states, they discussed strategies.

Now the reign of King Dovlo was teetering, with Nobles and Priests opposing him.

And Bandi and his forces realized that the once distant throne was now inching closer to them.

Just as long as,

the last obstacles to the throne were cleared.

All of these things,

would naturally come to pass.

.........

.........

King Dovlo sat upon the throne like a withered skeleton, he had ordered that all the Ministers were not to set foot inside the Palace.

In the despair-shrouded Palace, King Dovlo slowly descended from the throne and stood in its very center.

"The mountains...where are the mountains?"

King Dovlo asked a quivering voice of the attendant beside him.

The attendant’s hands were also trembling as he looked at the King, then pointed out the direction.

The attendant’s gaze stabbed King Dovlo, who already had his rationality shattered by fear. He violently seized the attendant’s shoulders, his sharp nails digging blood from them.

"Why do you look at me like that! I am your King!"

King Dovlo roared,

"With that kind of gaze? Are you looking at a King, or are you looking at a criminal?!"

He wailed in both fear and anger, like a dire wolf facing its doom.

The attendant trembled as he gazed at King Dovlo.

A dying beast, no matter how ferocious, is still a dying beast...

"A criminal...my King...you are a criminal."

"King,"

"The price of sin...is death"

After uttering these words, the attendant knelt down, pushed the King away, disregarded the secular authority of the Logos Kingdom, and put his hands together, desperately pleading for God’s last mercy.

King Dovlo watched the attendant and banished him from the Palace.

As he watched the attendant’s retreating figure, King Dovlo began to sneer, but soon the sneer turned into despair.

"The price of sin...is death..."

Frightened, King Dovlo knelt facing the direction of the mountains, continually knocking his head on the floor of the Temple, begging for Divine forgiveness.

He longed for the most high God to appear before him...

But God did not come.

"The price of sin...the price of sin..."

King Dovlo collapsed on the ground, muttering incessantly,

"The price of sin is death!"

Suddenly, King Dovlo recalled the attendant’s gaze and roared the words of the Prophecy again.

The words of the attendant completely shattered King Dovlo’s psyche.

He stood up from the ground, crying and laughing, madly jumping and then kneeling; the once exalted King cut a sorry figure as he, like a madman on the streets, kept repeating the Prophecy, foretelling his inevitable fate of despair.

The most terrifying thing is not death.

But to know that you are about to die, and that you will be despised by all after death.

..............

Rui Ying approached madness as he excavated the Eye of Prophecy from the Three-eyed Ape People.

Ever since he advised his father to consider the Three-eyed Ape People as slaves, he’d been frantically bringing Three-eyed Ape People slaves to his estate, trying over and over until the Prophecy regarding God came forth.

Rui Ying was not foolish, nor was he as weak as his father.

Especially under the current crisis.

Only by Prophecy concerning God was there any chance to soothe this unprecedented crisis of rationality.

Rui Ying did not believe in God; he even thought at one time that God was dispensable, only the name of God was of utmost importance.

However, when divine miracles appeared, and a storm of rationality crisis swept across the country, Rui Ying developed a deep fear of this historically recorded God.

In his fear, he nearly went mad as he desperately prayed to God to end this crisis of rationality.

Yet... no matter how much Rui Ying prayed, no matter how many sacrifices he made,

none of the things he had hoped for happened.

People killed God’s Divine Angel, and that God did not bring destruction was already the greatest mercy.

How could Rui Ying dare to plead for Him to end this crisis of rationality?

"Prince Rui Ying,

shall we...seek guidance from the Prophetic God Kagawus?"

Servants loyal to Rui Ying, seeing that Rui Ying’s prayers received no response, urged him to turn to the God of the Three-eyed Ape People instead.

Even...

To believe in the God of the Three-eyed Ape People, asking for His miracle.

After all, hadn’t the history books recorded that the Gods longed for the faith of the Logos people?

Now was the time to believe in the Gods.

"Kagawus..."

Rui Ying muttered this name, as the heir to the Kingdom, he naturally remembered all the records in the "Twin Kings Book."

He was a man of ambition, intelligence, and self-proclaimed builder of great legacies.

"Yes, I’ve accused the Divine Angel, God won’t respond to any of my prayers."

"So then..."

"Why not turn to worship the Prophetic God Kagawus?"

Rui Ying laughed wildly, unconstrained like a patient who stumbled upon a remedy in the midst of mortal illness.

"Moreover... with the power of Kagawus, perhaps we could predict... things about God, even... predict God’s whereabouts."

The heir to the Kingdom had no way back now.

Now, a path of blazing light lay before him; by believing in the Prophetic God Kagawus, this rational crisis would crumble in an instant, and he would ascend to the throne.

Standing amongst those blood-stained Eyes of Prophecy, Rui Ying knelt down, imitating the Three-eyed Ape People, placing a coconut date branch before him, and prayed to the Prophetic God Kagawus.

"Kagawus!

Oh, great Prophetic God, I am Rui Ying—the future King of the Logos people!

Once, King Dertulian refused to worship you, but I, Rui Ying, will offer all of my devout faith to you!"

Rui Ying’s attitude was exceedingly humble as he called out loudly, beseeching the gaze of the Prophetic God Kagawus.

At last, a profound and solemn voice fell upon Rui Ying’s ears.

"I am the Prophetic God Kagawus,

I can accept your faith, but what will you give me in return?"

The voice of the Divine was grave and authoritative.

Rui Ying was instantly overwhelmed with excitement,

The Prophetic God had answered his prayers, proving... the Gods still required the faith of the Logos people.

"Oh, esteemed Kagawus, should I take the throne, I will establish you as our God, and have the tens of thousands of Logos people become your devout believers.

Even...

Raze our original altars, and build a temple to worship you on that sacred high mountain!"

The heir to the Kingdom had completely forsaken his original faith.

He promised all sorts of benefits to the Prophetic God Kagawus and swore, over and over, in his own name, his absolute loyalty to Kagawus.

"Rui Ying of the Logos people, remember your promises to me.

I shall bestow upon you our Divine grace so that you and your people will worship us for eternity."

The words of the Prophetic God sent Rui Ying into ecstatic madness.

He praised Kagawus and the Gods, pleading for Him to bestow Divine Power upon him now.

"Before that, Rui Ying of the Logos people, you must go to the Palace, where the Gods have arrangements for you."

Kagawus, from the Celestial Kingdom, watched Rui Ying who knelt on the ground.

As the Prophetic God, He seemed to have already foreseen the prince’s destiny.

The voice of the Divine Spirit abruptly ceased, and Rui Ying, trembling in his legs, rose from the ground, his whole body filled with excited shivers.

"I’ve seized it... I’ve seized it...

I’ve seized my one chance at life!"

Prince Rui Ying could no longer contain himself, shouting and hollering, venting his excitement wildly.

For so many days, the noble Priests accused him and his father, cursed them both.

Even putting the throne of him and his father into perilous jeopardy.

But now, everything was about to change drastically.

The grace of the Gods would fulfill his wishes.

Rui Ying hastily rushed out of his residence, not taking a single servant with him, and headed straight for the direction of the Palace.

The prince was so excited he couldn’t think straight, he couldn’t wait to convince King Dovlo, his father, to convert to the great Gods, just like himself.

Rui Ying pushed through everyone who blocked his path, crossing the plaza teeming with people, where countless Three-eyed Ape slaves were gathered.

Suddenly...

A shadow covered in fur emerged from the crowd, fixing its gaze on Rui Ying’s back.

The stone Palace loomed into Rui Ying’s sight,

Step by step, he approached the Palace, seemingly seeing hope within arm’s reach.

As long as... he entered the Palace, just as long as...

Splash!

Rui Ying’s eyes widened.

A bone knife, sharp beyond compare, came from behind, piercing through Rui Ying’s back.

He turned in shock, only to be pinned to the ground by a Three-eyed Ape, his mouth covered.

Rui Ying couldn’t utter a word, not even a sound.

The Three-eyed Ape stared at him intently, flames of anger dancing in its eyes.

The Three-eyed Ape reached out a hand, its finger pointing towards Rui Ying’s eyes.

Rui Ying’s pupils dilated with terror, and in the next moment, the Ape-man’s nails pierced the fragile eyeballs.

"Ah!"

Rui Ying’s agonized scream was immediately muffled by the Ape-man’s palm.

It was an assassin sent by Bandi.

The illegitimate son set out to clear the path to the throne.
