Chapter 114: Chapter 102 Angel Got Nothing_2

He was just the child of a prostitute, a stammering poet. Without my endowment, how could he have entered the Pattern Garden, or ascended to the palace time and again?

King Dovlo’s fury was blazing.

What, was he now going to join those Three-eyed Ape People in destroying the hope for the great achievements he had built?

"Elder Gurah."

King Dovlo said with a heavy voice, staring at Basel, and added,

"It’s you, Basel."

Everyone present detected the King’s displeasure, and all eyes converged on Basel.

The nobles who supported the King’s edicts were emotional upon seeing a man from Logos stand beside an elder of the Three-eyed Ape People, sparking a cascade of debates.

Being of Logos descent, yet teaching the Three-eyed Ape People laws and history as weapons to attack King Dovlo.

Apart from "ignorance," only the term "traitor" could describe it.

Basel stood in the palace feeling the wrath of King Dovlo and the hatred of the people around him, as though a verbal and written onslaught awaited him.

Yet Basel remained standing.

This stammering poet did not think he had done anything wrong; he had not made a mistake.

Elder Gurah patted Basel on the shoulder, one of the successors of the eldership of Salas, instilling immense confidence in Basel.

Emboldened, Basel met King Dovlo’s gaze directly.

Indeed, if he had not done wrong, why should he fear the scrutiny of others? Only the guilty need fear.

King Dovlo sneered and shifted his gaze from him to Elder Gurah.

"Respected Elder Gurah, what brings you here this time?"

The voice from the King’s Throne sounded in the palace, almost chillingly cold for anyone to hear.

"Great King of the Logos, I am here for my people, and also to reaffirm our undying friendship."

Elder Gurah stepped forward, indifferent to King Dovlo’s unfriendly tone, bowing to the King and speaking out.

The ministers and nobles held their breath, their gazes alternately fixed on King Dovlo and on Elder Gurah.

All knew that this debate might change the direction of two races.

This debate, pivotal to the fate of the races, began.

"Our Prophet Al once said, ’Apart from God, what in this world can never perish?’"

King Dovlo gazed down at Elder Gurah and slowly continued,

"You are Elder Gurah, not the Salas Elder who forged our friendship."

"Our friendship was granted to your forefathers."

The words echoed clearly in the palace, as the nobles coldly scrutinized the Three-eyed Ape Elder, understanding King Dovlo’s implication.

Elder Gurah held his head high, unyielding, and slowly began,

"I am well versed in your history, as well as the words of Prophet Al, yet the friendship between our two races does not end with the death of one person.

Just as though King Yarlessto has passed away, has King Dertulian truly terminated the friendship between the two kingdoms?"

Elder Gurah’s argument resounded in the palace, and King Dovlo’s pupils narrowed, finding the argument persuasive and momentarily at a loss for a reply.

The nobles also murmured among themselves, surprised that a Three-eyed Ape could speak so eloquently.

Basel rejoiced at Elder Gurah’s argument, for those were the words he had written on wooden tablets.

After a pause, King Dovlo questioned again:

"Elder Gurah, we Logos have given you wheat, livestock, and pottery... These are our gifts, such overwhelmingly generous offerings, what, in turn, have you ever given us?

The spices you give are merely bestowed by God, and you need not sacrifice anything for them, while our wheat, livestock, and pottery are the culmination of generations of a kingdom’s efforts.

In comparison, how insignificant your offerings are."

King Dovlo’s question was tricky, his advantage clear as he continued,

"And now, for the enduring friendship of our two races, we must reclaim the reward we deserve from you, you offer us freedom, and we give you a great civilization.

Would you not want your descendants to see, a great civilization built by the hands of the Three-eyed Ape People, and be immensely proud of it?

If you are willing, God will surely bless both our races."

Elder Gurah turned his head, exchanging a brief look with Basel.

Then he stepped forward again, proclaiming loudly,

"No matter how great the civilization may seem to posterity, it requires us to be the perpetual foundation.

King Dertulian once said that humans are children of God, and not to be domesticated or enslaved. Will that saying not become a law for the people of Logos? Knowing that the law is to be established, would you still violate it beforehand?"

Elder Gurah’s words were powerful, leaving some nobles momentarily speechless, shaking their heads after exchanging looks, they all turned back to King Dovlo, waiting for the King’s response.

King Dovlo smiled coldly, well-prepared for this moment.

He, seated upon the throne, was mostly shrouded in shadow.

"The great God has endowed us with language, with reason, with ’Logos’."

"However, these divine graces,"

"Have never been bestowed upon the Three-eyed Ape People!"

The authoritative voice echoed throughout the palace, causing those in the presence of King Dovlo to involuntarily bow their heads.

"Elder Gurah, indeed you know our laws, our history."
