Only God -
Chapter 101 - 92 The Power of Prophecy
Chapter 101: Chapter 92 The Power of Prophecy
Basel gazed at the windswept mountains.
This downtrodden poet stood at the foot of the mountain where sacrificial rituals were held.
The Logos people and the Three-eyed Ape People had successfully established communication and connections, and as a result, the members of the Vanguard were all rewarded.
The rewards included access to the Pattern Garden and the privilege to offer sacrifices on the mountain alongside the King.
Basel learned that the exchange between the Logos people and the Three-eyed Ape People was very successful; they had brought fine food and livestock, exquisite pottery, and brought back precious spices and local fruits like Coconut Dates.
Following this, merchants spontaneously took on the trade demands between the two civilizations, daily trekking into the wilderness, taking goods from the Logos people over and bringing back various items from the Three-eyed Ape People.
The two civilizations exchanged with a friendly and excited demeanor, declaring friendship with each other, and yet, Basel enjoyed none of the fruits of this great success.
The wooden planks he brought back were handed over to King Dovlo, who then gave Basel’s findings to the Priests of the Pattern Garden; they eagerly discussed this novel civilization while often overlooking Basel, the recorder.
Basel felt it was a pity, enduring his own obscurity.
Being ignored hurt him more than any insult.
Basel looked up at the mountain in front of him, a place that endured in the poetry of the Logos people, often referred to as the Holy Mountain, Logos Mountain; since God had departed, the people unwittingly sacralized the mountain.
He looked at the mountain’s altar and approached the mural commemorating Prophet Al.
In the mural, the image of the King had collapsed, while the image of the Prophet had risen.
"Prophet, can I, I, I become, like you, you, you?"
Basel murmured to himself.
In the "Book of Kings and Prophets," penned by King Yarlessto, it was recorded that Prophet Al ascended the high mountain at the end of his life.
At first, no one knew what the Prophet had said before his death.
But for some reason, in the later years of King Yarlessto, the wise ruler seemed to have received some revelation and added a phrase to the history books...
"To love, to praise, to accompany you..."
This sentence matched Basel’s speaking rhythm and his stuttering habit, so he was quite fond of it.
A gust of cold wind blew, and feeling cold, Basel hurriedly walked down the mountain path; from a high vantage point, he was just a trivial little black dot that quietly departed.
Three years after declaring friendship with the Three-eyed Ape People, King Dovlo, for some reason, once again summoned the Vanguard that had ventured deep into the wilderness three years earlier.
Basel once again stepped into the grey, stone-crafted palace to meet King Dovlo on the throne.
"King Dovlo, why have you summoned us this time?"
Among the five Logos people, Lan Boxi spoke up.
King Dovlo did not speak; he waved his hand, and Prince Rui Ying next to him began to speak:
"Father has summoned you because he needs you to venture into the wilderness once again."
"But... with so many merchants venturing into the wilderness for trade within the Kingdom, why do you need us?"
Lan Boxi expressed his confusion.
Since the declaration of friendship between the two tribes, merchants had traveled the trade roads daily; why would they need to enter the desert again?
Basel looked around and noticed that there were no other Nobles or Ministers present in the palace, just the Vanguard and the King and his son.
"Those merchants, although skilled in trade, still barely understand the Three-eyed Ape People,"
Rui Ying paused and then slightly lowered his voice:
"Father needs you to find out exactly where the Three-eyed Ape People’s prophetic power comes from."
Prophetic power?
A hint of caution rose in Basel’s heart.
"What exactly is going on?"
Before Lan Boxi could speak, Basel hurriedly asked.
"You do not need to know so much."
Rui Ying replied so.
"But, but we must know."
Basel raised his voice.
"Basel!"
Lan Boxi looked over and spoke angrily.
With his neck stiff, Basel disregarded Lan Boxi, insisting on obtaining a clear answer.
Prince Rui Ying’s face darkened with anger as he was about to scold the disrespectful wretch.
At that moment, King Dovlo raised his hand to stop him.
"Let me speak."
As his words fell, Lan Boxi and Prince Rui Ying quickly suppressed their anger, awaiting King Dovlo’s voice.
The illegitimate son, Bandi, raised his head, gazing at his father.
"We all know... God has departed."
King Dovlo, with an aged look in his eyes, surveyed those present and spoke thus.
Several Logos people nodded; everyone was aware of this fact.
"And the Three-eyed Ape People possess the power of prophecy.
I think... we can borrow that power...
to make predictions about the future.
We might be able to find traces of God in the prophecy."
King Dovlo’s mature and composed voice resonated clearly in the palace, making the Vanguard inadvertently reveal a look of astonishment.
Indeed...
Since the Three-eyed Ape People hold the power of prophecy.
Then... why shouldn’t the Logos people learn to control their power of prophecy and use it to seek out traces of God?
"I tell you, if we find God by this means, history books will surely bear your names."
As King Dovlo spoke, he meaningfully glanced at Bandi,
"This will be your great achievement."
Bandi paused, taken aback, then his body trembled.
He lifted his eyes, disbelievingly staring at King Dovlo.
His own father...
Was he giving him a chance?
A chance... to be considered a prince...
And even...
Bandi quickly glanced at Rui Ying, who stood beside the throne.
A chance to replace the heir to the Kingdom, Rui Ying?!
Though Bandi knew replacing Prince Rui Ying was merely his own fantasy and that King Dovlo’s actions were largely motivated by racial considerations, merely giving himself a chance as a matter of convenience,
It was enough to make Bandi tremble.
Being an illegitimate son, he felt an urge to cry.
Standing next to the grand throne, Rui Ying glanced over at the illegitimate son, Bandi.
His trembling appearance seemed laughable to Rui Ying.
Laughable enough to evoke a hint of sympathy.
Does this man not realize?
Even if their names are left in history books, they will be as accompaniments to their father and himself.
First and foremost recorded will be the achievements of father and son.
Then, those of the few Logos people.
Having spent years by King Dovlo’s side, Rui Ying understood their father far more than Bandi did.
The opportunity King Dovlo gave,
Was merely out of an insignificant sympathy from a father.
If Rui Ying knew what Bandi was thinking, he would surely burst into laughter on the spot.
Replacing the heir of the Kingdom?
What a laughable, contemptible, and pitiable fantasy.
As King Dovlo’s eldest son, Rui Ying had been designated the heir of the Kingdom from a very young age.
It was certain that he would inherit the throne one day.
Unless...
King Dovlo’s son, Rui Ying, met with an untimely death.
