Chapter 69 - Please beg her for me

Chapter 69: Chapter 69 - Please beg her for me

"I wonder what gives you the right to talk down on others when you are on the lowest level above the janitor in this company?" Joanna asked, the color drained from the face of Daphne, the receptionist, as Jack smiled, loving his madam’s attitude.

He also deemed it right to send his boss a video of this and began working on a live one.

"Ma’am..." Daphne was saying when Joanna cut her off.

"I haven’t finished talking." Her gaze was menacing, as she squinted, making Daphne uncomfortable.

Joanna might be upset with Alex, but this was among the times when she had to protect him, just as he would her.

"You sit here and talk trash about your boss because he’s acting? I think you should find another job."

Such attitudes could not be tolerated by Joanna. If Daphne could speak so ill of her boss, then Joanna wondered what she might be saying about clients as well as fellow employees of the company.

Daphne feared but also remembered one thing. The acting CEO’s wife was not a part of the company, so technically, she had no right to fire anyone.

"You don’t work here, so what gives you the right to fire me?" She asked. Jack was upset, but Joanna smiled.

Yet, it was cold. So cold, Daphne shivered from it as Joanna removed her phone from her handbag, instantly dialing a number.

At the conference room, the meeting continued when Alex’s phone on the table began ringing once more.

He had muted his phone and ignored the live video because of this meeting.

However, upon hearing the buzzing sound, his gaze lowered as everyone went quiet, and catching the name on the phone, his brows creased a little.

"I have to take this call."

It was not every time that Joanna would call him, though he was rather expecting Jack’s call, but what met his ears caused him to stiffen a little.

"Alex, I want your receptionist fired."

It took a little time for Alex to process the information and to also understand that Joanna had arrived and was already at the reception.

Also, something must have happened for her to make that request, but at first, he had to honor it before seeking the details later.

Edmund, who was taking down the minutes of the meeting on his iPad, was assigned yet another responsibility.

"Eddy, inform HR to process the receptionist’s paycheck and go bring my wife to my office," he said in a hushed tone since Edmund sat right next to him.

Edmund nodded, rising to his feet as he activated the recorder to record the minutes for transcription later.

"It’s done," Alex responded on the phone to Joanna’s amazement.

She expected him to ask questions, but there were none, so she wondered if it was because of her not questioning his decisions rule.

Was he using the same rule on her? If that was the case, then it was indeed a great one because Joanna loved what Alex just did for her, meaning she would be respected by all and sundry.

"Ma’am, it’s been five minutes since you made that call. Are you even the CEO’s wife? Or let me just say that you are one of those women who marry for money so your words don’t matter to him."

Her voice was heavily loaded with mockery, making Jack want to break the rules and lay his fingers on her to teach her how to filter her words before speaking next time.

Joanna let out the same cold smile and responded, "I would be packing if I were you. What if you don’t get the chance to do so?"

The height of confidence accompanying every word she spoke caused the receptionist to fear a little, but then again, she had not received any call to go to the HR’s office, so this woman was just blabbing.

"From the looks of it, you should be the one leaving here. What proof do you have to even say that the crippled acting CEO is your husband?"

Her hostility caused Jack to take a step closer to her, but Joanna held him back, remembering what happened to Mr. Troy.

"Don’t, Jack."

"Then let me take you to the boss’s office to relax there," he suggested, but before Joanna could respond, Daphne cut in.

"No way. Security, kick this woman out of here. She’s an imposter. If she were indeed the boss’s wife, then I should have been fired by now, right?"

The security man at the reception moved to do her bid but was punched in the face by Jack before his hand touched Joanna’s wrist.

"How dare you touch the boss’s wife? Do you want to die?"

Joanna’s brows raised, shocked and impressed by Jack’s timely intervention. After all, it would have been shameful to be humiliated by the security, though she knew they would have still paid for it.

Daphne was stunned by Jack’s fierceness, that she lost her mind. "Alright, I’m calling the cops."

The elevator doors opened before her hand reached the desktop phone, and Edmund stepped out with the HR Manager behind him.

Daphne was elated. "Edmund, thank God you are here. This woman here threatened to fire me, and her bodyguard abused our security when I told him to throw her out."

Edmund was sweating bullets upon hearing Daphne’s words as he turned to Joanna with an apologetic look.

"I’m so sorry, ma’am. This would not happen again."

Daphne was confused, but Edmund, the acting CEO’s personal assistant, was so courteous to Joanna.

"It’s alright. I hope you can clean up this mess," Joanna said seriously. Edmund gave her a confident look.

"You can watch if you have the time." He glared at the HR who walked to Daphne’s desk.

"Here, your termination letter with immediate effect for gross misconduct. The company would pay you no compensation."

Daphne was seeing stars. "No, what are you saying? I was just doing my job."

The HR manager smiled. She checked the surveillance cameras before coming down, for which reason she was late in arriving.

"I hope you did not forget about the cameras, Daphne. You did not only insult the acting CEO’s wife but also, he himself. Do you want us to press charges?"

Daphne was restless. Which company would pay her as much as she was earning here? Not only that, she would not have any accreditation from this company if she used it as a reference.

Tears stung the corner of her eyes, dropping down her cheeks. "Please, you have to do something. Edmund, please beg her for me," she pleaded. Edmund was helpless and upset.

However, before he spoke up, the elevator door opened, and the person they saw made them nervous.
