Chapter 46: Chapter 46 – Nobody can talk about it

A few hours ago, Logan was just about to drive out of his office premises when he saw a familiar car. Before he could draw closer to confirm the identity of the owner, his phone rang, and he answered it. It was his grandpa.

"If you have seen my car, just walk to it."

Logan reluctantly walked to the car, opened it, and sat down. "I wasn’t expecting you here, Grandpa."

The old man showed no expression on his face and did not come with a driver. "I just came to warn you. At the party, remember not to offend your brother. I won’t be there to protect you if you upset him."

Logan recalled Alex’s rage during the meeting and smiled bitterly. He and Alex grew up together, but Alex turned out so different.

Most times, Logan wondered where Alex got his strength. Even in a wheelchair, he remained tough.

"He’s in a wheelchair, and there will be at least eight extended family members, including your cousins, distant relatives, and their spouses. Can Alex deal with all of them?"

Grandpa’s tongue almost slipped into revealing Alex’s secret identity, but he was glad to have been able to control it.

"Logan, your brother is still very skillful even without the use of his legs. This is my last warning. I’m not ready to lose my grandchild too."

The bitter smile could not be wiped from Logan’s lips as he recalled Alex’s ruthlessness, but it seemed his grandfather was condoning it.

"You are afraid of him, aren’t you? He killed our father, your son, and yet, nobody can talk about it."

The remembrance of such details ached the old man, but Alex’s actions were justified. "Your father killed your mother, remember?"

Logan was not going to let this go. For as long as he was alive, he would not allow that wedding to happen, and even if Joanna got pregnant, he would ensure that she lost it.

"But Alex was the one who left Dion to herself. Instead of protecting her, he locked her in that room and went to kill our father. Dion died in the fire, and yet, no one can talk about it."

He held it in for so long. Everyone did, but tonight, it was all too much for him to take in. His rebellion was triggered by all these factors, but Grandpa explained.

"Alex did not set the fire. If he hadn’t killed your father, the mafia would have still done it. They were the ones who set the fire, and Alex dealt with all of them. It was just too late for him to rescue your sister."

"It still isn’t enough that he killed our father and caused the death of our only sister. I hate him," Logan said honestly, the old man sighed defeatedly.

"Well, I just want you alive, so think twice before you speak. His patience already ran out concerning you. I’m not sure he would regret sending you to meet your father."

Logan understood what his grandfather meant, and if the old man was going to continuously take Alex’s side, then there was no point in arguing about the matter anymore.

"I have to go pick up my date for tonight."

"Another one?" Grandpa asked in a depressed tone, Logan taunted.

"Are you afraid I would get married before your fearful, favorite son?"

"Get out of my car," Grandpa tousled, Logan did not speak anymore.

He went, picked up his date, and made it for dinner, determined not to offend his brother directly.

"A leopard doesn’t change its skin color, Logan. For a moment, I thought you and Mia were rather perfectly suited, or is it Fiona?" Alex taunted, Logan tried his best to swallow his anger.

Everyone expected him to bicker with Alex, but they were amazed that it didn’t happen.

"Good evening, everyone, meet my fiancée, Ruby," Logan announced, the brunette woman beside him was smiling like a fool.

Everyone expected Alex to say more, but that also did not happen. Moving to their chairs, everyone was surprised when Ruby went to sit by Alex, but his palm was pressed on the chair before her butt touched it.

"This is reserved for my wife. She will be joining us later."

Logan was upset by what his date did but did not immediately comment on it. Also, he caught her stealing glances several times at Alex.

The meals were being served, but Alex only drank water. When it was time for dessert, Uncle Dean could not help asking.

"Alex, you haven’t eaten anything. Do you want the chef to make something special for you?"

Alex knew that his uncle did not care for him. It was all for show, so he replied.

"I will eat when my wife gets here." By constantly mentioning his wife, it was difficult for anyone to rub it in, only waiting curiously for his wife to get there, which Alex knew would not happen.

"We decided on having the wedding here," Agnes, Uncle Dean’s wife spoke up. She has been the wedding planner of the Kings, but Alex had his plans for security reasons.

"I disagree. I prefer a hotel. I already got a wedding planner."

Everyone observed the paleness on Agnes’s face. This was the first wedding hosted by the Kings she was not going to handle.

"You know that weddings are planned by us," Uncle Dean pointed out, not liking Alex’s attitude and wishing Grandpa was there.

Alex’s answers were too straightforward. "With your archaic methods? No thanks."

"Alex, it’s not right to move away from tradition, especially when you refused an arranged marriage," another relative pointed out, but Alex had a ready answer.

"I’m already married coincidentally to my arranged bride. She’s shy, but since you insist on a glamorous wedding, we are giving you that, so what else do you still want from us?"

Agnes, being embarrassed by Alex’s unfiltered words, decided to teach him a lesson.

"I was just thinking about your legs. Can you put on some artificial ones? We are not exactly thrilled..."

"If my wife doesn’t mind, why should you? Are you the one getting married?" Alex cut in, not allowing her to complete her sentence. His expression was stern, sending a chilling aura across the luxurious room.

A phone vibrated, and Logan picked it up. About to toss it away, he found himself responding to some messages. As soon as he was done, he smiled.

"Alex, it’s almost midnight, and yet, you keep insisting your wife would be here for almost three hours now. Why don’t you call and put her on speaker? We all would like to know how busy she is in the office."

Alex’s expression changed instantly.
