Chapter 35: Chapter 35 – My husband doesn’t care so why should you?

Alex was back at the office when his phone rang. Aiden had come to help him with the files involving Enzo since the other staff had closed for the day.

The files of his other identity had always been carefully encrypted, and with his assistant doing a good job, even though he had never seen him, Alex never worried much.

The name Salvadore Black was only coined in the heat of the moment when his men began to revolt on knowing who they worked for, instead of the ’Nameless boss’ Alex called himself before.

That nickname caused his men to lose some trust in him, but as soon as Salvadore Black was revealed, it made them feel like they were dealing with a real person, respecting the fact that their boss would never reveal himself.

The technological effectiveness of Team Salvadore was highly spoken of, as they were the team responsible for protecting their companies, families, and loved ones.

It was also the best way of dealing with his enemies without bringing any form of attack to himself or his family.

The protection the Kings enjoyed was all because of Alex’s fake identity as Salvadore Black. The men in that group were highly trained professionals, ready to give their lives at any time but bound by a common bond of never quitting the group.

"What is the problem?" Alex asked over the phone, not prepared for what he heard. Some people could reach him anytime, and Jack was one of them, as he was assigned to protect his contract wife.

The nervousness in Jack’s voice could not be hidden as he revealed, "Sir, Madam wants to go to the club with her friend."

Alex’s hand on the keyboard of his MacBook froze instantly. Anytime he felt like he had Joanna exactly where he wanted her, she would come up with something new.

"To do what?"

"I have no idea. I guess to have fun," Jack responded in the same nervous tone, Alex’s fingers balled together.

Why was it so hard for women to follow simple instructions? He already knew that Joanna wanted his attention, which he was not willing to give.

From the background, he could hear Joanna and Violet chit-chatting away, wondering if he made a mistake by allowing certain things.

Was Violet really a good influence, or was it Joan all along? A sigh escaped him.

"Alright. Take them to the club and watch them closely."

"Yes, sir."

Joan asked eagerly when the call ended, "What did he say?"

Something inside her wanted a negative answer, but that did not come. "He said it’s alright."

The smile on Joanna’s face froze, and Violet looked disappointed as well. If a man shows no resistance whatsoever to what his woman does, then it only means one thing, right? He doesn’t care for her.

"I think we should go home?" Violet suggested, depressed by Alex’s nonchalant behavior.

This was a test to see if he cared for Joanna even a little bit, but he seemed to have failed, or Joanna was just too expectant of something she would never get from him.

"No, let’s finish it," Joanna insisted with a new resolve, and Violet stared at her. "You are a married woman."

When she proposed it, she never planned to implement it, hoping that Alex would stop them, but things did not go as planned.

Overwhelmed by emotions, Joanna forced a smile. "My husband doesn’t care, so why should you?" Her level of sore emotions was so high that Violet could not talk her out of whatever was on her mind.

The drive was in silence, and it was getting late. Even though Joanna had work to do the next day, she could not help but desire to experience the club like Violet suggested.

"Luckily, it isn’t a weekend, so there won’t be a lot of people."

Joanna shrugged, never planning to have fun but just to get drunk a little or even more to pass a message. Or, could it be that Alex was not disturbed because he knew Violet was going to be with her?

"That’s nice. We can have a look and come back during the weekend," Joanna smiled but it didn’t reach her eyes.

Reaching the club’s car park, Joanna was quick to notice a familiar car with a man in a wheelchair in front of it, another man whom they knew as the driver stood beside him.

Warmth filled her heart as Violet smiled before stepping out of the car. "He cares after all. I almost developed hate for him."

"Same here," Joanna agreed but could not understand why Alex’s presence made her happy, even though he looked upset.

"You took longer than I expected." His voice was laced with a forced smile. "Want to go to the club? I hope you know how to dance very well."

Joanna could not help smiling. There was no way to pinpoint it, but maybe due to his protection of her for all the times they had been together. "Can you also dance?" Joanna asked teasingly. "Why are you here?"

Joanna did not want him to know how happy she was, just knowing that he cared. Alex responded with a stern expression. "To make it clear to you that a married woman doesn’t come to such places."

Joanna smiled brightly, liking this overly protective cripple. "I’m with my girlfriend."

Alex pursed his lips, coming up with an idea of how to teach her a very good lesson. "Do you drink?"

A frown contoured Joanna’s face, not understanding why he asked but replied truthfully. "Just red wine."

Alex nodded, confirming his suspicions. "You should try martini. Let’s go."

He pulled her by the hand a little too harshly, and she lost her balance, but that was exactly what Alex wanted, and guided her to his lap.

"Wait, what are you talking about?" Joanna pressed her palm against his chest to restrict any closeness, stunned by how firm it was but that was when Alex’s fingers wrapped around her slender waist.

Since they were in public, they had to act married. Violet was finding it hard to hold in the laughter until they reached the bar.

Ike and Jack stayed back, amazed to see this side of their boss. Joanna had been wheeled to the bar with her butt on Alex’s lap, earning curious and stunned gazes from the customers through the bustling music as Alex requested,

"Twenty glasses of martini for the ladies."

Both Joanna and Violet’s eyes widened as Joanna tried to free herself from her crazy, crippled husband.

"What? Are you going to kill us?" She asked, and Violet lacked the words to speak when met with Alex’s daring glare, which locked with that of Joanna with a swipe of his head.

"You don’t have what it takes?" When the understanding hit home that Alex was not there to have fun with them but just to teach them a lesson, Joanna was smart enough to give up, something she would not have done if she had not known he was Alexander King.

"Fine, Alex, you won. I’m going home." She freed herself and stood up from his lap, Alex smirked and did not stop them.

Reaching the office, he was amazed by Aiden’s declaration.
