Chapter 88
Chapter 88: Chapter 88
"Right," Uncle Hong said. "This kid went to Jiangzhou yesterday."
Wu Qiangwei became cold again, "I know."
Wu Ming said, "He went to Jiangzhou to pick up girls and my sister caught him last night."
Wu Qiangwei pointed at the door, "Get out!"
"Can’t I just keep quiet?" Wu Ming said with a woeful look.
"Pick up girls?" Uncle Hong’s expression turned strange as he looked at Wu Qiangwei, seeming to understand something. He shook his head with a smile, "He definitely didn’t go there to pick up girls."
Wu Qiangwei’s expression flickered slightly, and her lips moved as if she wanted to ask, but ultimately she did not voice her question.
She was curious, but given her status, she did not want to show it in front of Uncle Hong.
At his age, Uncle Hong had seen everything, and he could tell that Wu Qiangwei probably had some feelings for the secretary.
He took out his phone and flipped to a photo, "Is this the woman he met yesterday?"
Wu Qiangwei glanced at it, and Wu Ming also looked, "That’s her!"
Wu Qiangwei softly hmm’d.
Uncle Hong said, "Her name is Fu Ying, the deputy county head of Dujiang County, and also Song Guanchao’s university classmate."
"Wow, could she be his first love?" Wu Ming blurted out then immediately covered his mouth.
Wu Qiangwei’s brows furrowed again.
Uncle Hong said irritably, "Boy, do you have to add fuel to the fire?"
Wu Ming said, "I didn’t say anything wrong. I saw that woman yesterday, she’s really beautiful, and she has a great figure. There must have been a lot of guys chasing her in college; maybe they did date."
Uncle Hong said, "Don’t talk nonsense without proof. I haven’t checked whether they dated in college, but Song Guanchao’s trip to the province yesterday definitely wasn’t a date."
Wu Qiangwei couldn’t hold back and asked, "What did he go to the province for?"
"He asked Fu Ying to arrange a meeting with Secretary Xu of the Provincial Disciplinary Inspection Committee."
Wu Qiangwei was stunned; even with her clever mind, she couldn’t figure out why Song Guanchao would meet with Secretary Xu.
Moreover, why didn’t he report such an important matter to me?
Wu Ming asked, "Uncle Hong, what did he meet Uncle Xu for?"
"You’re asking me? Then who should I ask?"
Uncle Hong looked at Wu Qiangwei, "If you really want to know, why don’t you call Secretary Xu directly? Technically, since he’s your secretary, he should report to you."
"I understand," Wu Qiangwei nodded, and the frost on her face melted.
Although she was curious about what Song Guanchao wanted with Secretary Xu, her curiosity wasn’t very piquant at this moment.
She only knew that Song Guanchao definitely didn’t go on a date yesterday.
They had dinner together in the evening, merely as a simple thank you to his classmate.
Her mood was like the winter sun breaking through the clouds.
This clear change was obvious to both Uncle Hong and Wu Ming.
The old man and the young exchanged glances, both secretly surprised.
"Big sis really seems to have fallen in love."
"It’s not easy, she finally found someone she likes."
...
Half an hour later, Song Guanchao saw Wu Ming descending the stairs.
The young man was beaming, almost floating as he walked.
The happier he appeared, the more upset Song Guanchao became.
He watched as Wu Ming drove away and followed closely behind.
Wu Ming drove to a nearby restaurant for dinner, surprisingly choosing a high-end one.
This made Song Guanchao even more convinced of his guess that this kid was definitely sent by some big shot in the city.
Otherwise, how could a driver afford such expensive food with his salary?
Song Guanchao ate something nearby casually, then continued to stake out the place.
"Hmm?"
A sense of alertness rose again in his mind. He subtly shifted his body to use his peripheral vision for observation.
Across the street, there was a black sedan with tinted windows; it was hard to see inside.
But Song Guanchao was sure there was someone inside who was watching him.
Who could it be?
He pretended not to notice and continued his stakeout.
At 7:30 PM, Wu Ming came out of the restaurant. Just as he was opening the car door, Song Guanchao suddenly rushed over and also opened the passenger side door, sitting inside.
Seeing Song Guanchao buckling his seatbelt, Wu Ming was taken aback.
Where did this guy come from?
Is he following me?
Wu Ming, however, remained calm. He chuckled, got in the car, and asked, "Secretary Song, do you need something?"
"Drive."
"Secretary Song..."
"I said, drive!" Song Guanchao’s voice was deep, his eyes sharp as knives, putting great pressure on Wu Ming.
Suddenly, Wu Ming had an intuition that if he didn’t comply, this guy might hit him.
A wise man does not fight when the odds are against him; Wu Ming asked, "Where to?"
"Just drive forward."
Wu Ming had no choice but to obey. The car continued along the highway, and half an hour later, when they reached an overpass, Song Guanchao told him to stop.
"Get out."
"Secretary Song..."
"Don’t make me repeat myself."
Wu Ming unbuckled his seatbelt and got out.
Under the overpass, it was pitch-dark; no one was around, only the occasional vehicle sped by.
Wu Ming suddenly panicked. Could this guy really be about to beat me up?
Damn it, I wanted to beat him up!
They walked to the underpass, where Song Guanchao lit a cigarette and silently watched him.
The flickering cigarette end intermittently illuminated his sharply defined face.
The scene, the atmosphere, and Song Guanchao’s demeanor increasingly confused Wu Ming.
"Song..."
"Smack!"
Song Guanchao slapped him across the face. "Did I allow you to speak?"
Wu Ming’s head throbbed painfully. This guy really hit hard.
He held his head but dared not show any anger.
His sister had said he was Commander Zeng’s bodyguard.
If he dared to retaliate, it would only get worse.
Wu Ming felt deeply aggrieved. He, a Princeton graduate, skilled in both letters and martial arts, usually unapproachable by two or three men, now seemed like a primary school student in front of Song Guanchao.
Having been reprimanded by his sister in the evening, and now bullied by Song Guanchao, Wu Ming almost cried out of misery.
After finishing the cigarette, Song Guanchao asked, "Tell me, who asked you to get close to Secretary Wu?"
"Secretary Song, you misunderstand,’ Wu Ming started."
"Crack crack!"
Song Guanchao rubbed his hands together, making a series of popping sounds with his knuckles.
Wu Ming’s mouth twitched. "Secretary Song, I’m just a contractor; I don’t understand what you’re talking about."
"Don’t understand? Seems your mind isn’t clear enough."
Song Guanchao grabbed him by the collar and with little effort, lifted Wu Ming off the ground.
Wu Ming was terrified.
Is this guy an animal?
How could he be so strong?
I’m damn well 183 centimeters, 160 pounds, with a muscular physique from regular gym workouts!
And yet, he just picked me up like I was a little chick?
Holding him up, Song Guanchao asked, "Why did you go to Secretary Wu’s house?"
"I..."
"Don’t play games with me."
"I wouldn’t dare, I wouldn’t dare," said Wu Ming. "It was Secretary Wu who asked me to come up."
"And then, what did you do?"
"Nothing, I didn’t do anything."
"Did nothing? You, a driver, stayed in Secretary Wu’s house for over half an hour, and you’re telling me you did nothing?"
"Boom!"
Song Guanchao punched him in the stomach.
Wu Ming gagged, doubling over, as his recently eaten meal surged up to his throat.
