Official Career Storm -
Chapter 46
Chapter 46: Chapter 46
Song Guanchao slowly exhaled a puff of smoke, stubbed out the cigarette, leaned back slightly, and kept his gaze fixed on He Yong.
Though He Yong was standing, towering above as he looked down.
Yet for some reason, faced with Song Guanchao’s gaze, he felt as if he was the one being looked down upon.
"You’re called He Yong, right?"
Song Guanchao spoke up, asking, "This guidance group was established under the direction of Secretary Wu. Do you think that just because it’s nominally led by commerce and tax authorities, the guidance group is really under your charge?"
As these words came out, both Yu Lifang and He Yong were taken aback.
"Bang!"
Suddenly, Song Guanchao slammed his hand on the table, startling everyone.
He stared menacingly at He Yong and Yu Lifang:
"Secretary Wu established the guidance group to get all departments of Chengda Company back to normal operation quickly. Yet here you are, spouting bureaucracy and singing a different tune from me. What are you trying to imply? Do you want to slowly kill off Chengda Company? Or is it that someone has offered you benefits to go against Secretary Wu?"
His accusation came down heavily.
He Yong began to panic, saying, "Song Guanchao, don’t talk nonsense. I, as the deputy leader, am of course here to help Chengda Company resume operations as quickly as possible..."
"Do you even know your duty is to assist?"
Song Guanchao said, "What does assist mean? It means that you show up when you’re needed and disappear without a trace when you’re not, not hanging around in front of me!"
"Song Guanchao, you..."
"What now? Do you think there’s a problem with what I said?"
Song Guanchao pulled out his phone, found Secretary Wu’s number, and threw the phone over, "Call Secretary Wu and relay exactly what I said to him. Ask Secretary Wu if there’s anything wrong with my words."
"You..."
"Not calling? No problem, I’ll help you."
Song Guanchao grabbed the phone, dialed the number, and threw it back.
Watching the dialed number, He Yong’s heart skipped a beat, and he hurriedly disconnected the call, squeezing out a smile, "Song, Song... Master Song, I didn’t mean that."
Song Guanchao snorted coldly, then turned to Yu Lifang, "Mr. Yu, do you have anything to say?"
Yu Lifang’s expression alternated between cloud and sunshine. She had been the head of the office for over a decade, keeping a tight grip on her subordinates.
In the matters of framing accusations and exploiting situations, she considered herself second to none.
But today, she found herself completely suppressed by a mere driver.
Yu Lifang forced an awkward smile, "No."
Seeing both the leader and the deputy conceding, bystanders Tian Xue and Zhang Kai were completely stunned.
In just a few minutes, Song Guanchao, with a smooth set of combos, managed to suppress both of them.
Had they not known that Song Guanchao was just a driver, they would have thought he was the director.
Song Guanchao then looked at Chief Zhang, "Chief Zhang, any issues on your end?"
"No, no issues." Zhang Kai swallowed hard, feeling incredibly aggrieved.
He, a Commision for Discipline Inspection chief stationed in the City Committee, was being suppressed by a driver.
"All good, that’s very good."
Song Guanchao lit another cigarette, tapped on the table, and laid down the rule, "I’ll set the tone first. From now on, if you have any objections, report them all to me. If I find out that any of you has been contacting department heads of Chengda Company behind the scenes, haha, don’t blame me, Song Guanchao, for not recognizing you!"
Everyone felt a chill.
Though Song Guanchao didn’t specify how he would turn hostile, the message was clear: "I’ll report directly to Secretary Wu."
He gave the impression that he represented Secretary Wu.
Even though they felt that if Secretary Wu indeed wanted a messenger, it would certainly be Tian Xue.
But Song Guanchao was so overbearing that even if they felt it was unreasonable, they dared not question it.
"Several managers," Song Guanchao looked at the department heads, "any issues with the company, come directly to me."
Then, pointing at He Yong and others, "If any of them contact you privately, tell me. I’ll replace them with a single phone call."
These words made He Yong and his group’s faces twitch again—it was an outright threat.
The department heads nodded repeatedly, yet they felt a growing fondness for Song Guanchao in their hearts.
This instructor was clearly here to genuinely help, unafraid to cut through bureaucracy with a no-nonsense approach.
Look—within minutes, he had seized control of the steering wheel from the guidance group.
"Alright, let us discuss the current state of the company."
"Oh, right."
Song Guanchao pointed at Zhang Kai, "Xiao Zhang, make me a cup of tea."
Zhang Kai’s heart clenched, ready to explode on the spot.
A department head offered, "Mr. Song, I’ll make it."
"Stay seated," Song Guanchao stared at Zhang Kai, his tone calm but leaving no room for doubt, "Make the tea."
Taking a deep breath, Zhang Kai forced a smile, "Okay."
He stepped out, found a teacup and tea leaves, and poured hot water over them.
Then, he sneaked to a corner and spat a thick gob of phlegm into the cup.
"I hope you choke on it!"
He walked back in, about to set down the teacup, when Song Guanchao suddenly said, "You drink it."
Zhang Kai’s expression froze, "This is for you."
Song Guanchao tilted his head, staring at him, "I said, ’You drink it!’ Which word did you not understand?"
Zhang Kai felt his anger nearing its breaking point, yet he dared not lash out.
His array of expressions was quite a sight, but eventually, he took the tea back to his seat.
He set down the teacup and did not touch it.
As the department heads were about to share the company’s struggles, Song Guanchao raised his hand, "No rush, let Chief Zhang have a sip of tea first."
All eyes focused on Zhang Kai.
Inside, Zhang Kai had cursed Song Guanchao’s ancestors several times over.
The others faintly guessed that Zhang Kai might have tampered with the tea...
Damn it! Damn it!
Internally fuming, Zhang Kai restrained himself from bursting out.
But now, if he didn’t drink, the meeting couldn’t proceed.
He took several deep breaths, then suddenly, with a burst of inspiration, he grabbed the teacup to drink.
But just as he picked it up, his hand trembled, and the teacup overturned, spilling tea all over the table.
"Oops, that was an accident," Zhang Kai said with a smug look at Song Guanchao.
Song Guanchao simply smiled—the kid was only so clever.
He leaned back, "Let’s begin."
The department heads all sighed in relief, suddenly finding the usual office skirmishes trivial compared to this political arena.
Then, they began to outline the challenges facing the company.
The meeting lasted over an hour; aside from Song Guanchao, Tian Xue, and Wu Yun, the others were nearly dozing off.
No surprise—they could hardly understand the business details.
Having such amateurs guide a commercial company was ridiculous.
But Song Guanchao knew their role wasn’t to instruct but to facilitate, to ease Chengda Company through its current obstacles.
