Official Career Storm
Chapter 406

Chapter 406: Chapter 406

Listening to Zeng Yingrong’s words, Political Commissioner Zhong forced a wry smile.

His heart was still aflame.

But he let it be.

As long as it didn’t escalate, it would be fine.

...

Mr. Li was bewildered.

He was eating and drinking with several friends, discussing business matters.

Suddenly, the door to the private room was kicked open, and several burly soldiers rushed in and surrounded him.

Seeing the uniforms on these soldiers, he immediately thought of the incident that had happened that night.

He asked them what they wanted with him, but they didn’t respond, just gestured for him to cooperate.

He didn’t want to cooperate, but given the circumstances, if he didn’t, he’d probably be carried out.

The others in the room watched as Mr. Li was taken away, looking at each other in confusion, completely unaware of what had happened.

One of them called Lu Xiaotian, who, upon learning the news, immediately went into hiding.

Sure enough, less than half an hour after he hid, his subordinates called to say that the soldiers from that night had come again.

Time quickly moved to nine o’clock in the evening.

A military green off-road vehicle was parked at the entrance of the county police department, with Mr. Li sitting inside.

He had been brought out from the private room and had been waiting in the vehicle ever since, for several hours.

No matter how much he asked, the soldiers beside him remained silent, leaving him feeling anxious and utterly clueless about why he was there.

Around ten o’clock.

Suddenly, the quiet streets filled with the sound of vehicles speeding.

A series of similarly painted military vehicles drove from afar.

Originally, according to Zeng Yingrong’s plan, he would have come directly to the police department in the afternoon to demand the person.

But Political Commissioner Zhong had insisted on keeping a low profile, as so many military vehicles in the town would definitely attract onlookers.

Thus, they waited until now.

Dozens of vehicles lined up and stopped in front of the large gate of the county department.

Zeng Yingrong got out of the car, accompanied by Political Commissioner Zhong.

The two walked toward the entrance of the county department.

Political Commissioner Zhong cautioned, "Don’t be impulsive later, speak properly, understand?"

"Hmm." He had practically grown calluses from hearing this.

When they reached the door, Zeng Yingrong stopped and looked around, "Why hasn’t anyone come yet?"

He took out his phone, about to make a call, when a private car drove up.

The car stopped at the entrance, and Wu Ming stuck his head out, "Yingrong brother, did I make you wait long?"

"I just arrived too," said Zeng Yingrong putting his phone away and glancing at the passenger seat, spotting Bai Ruyi.

The car drove into the parking lot of the police department, and both individuals got out. Bai Ruyi seemed a bit nervous.

Wu Ming reassured, "Sister Bai, don’t be nervous, they wouldn’t dare to mess around."

"Hmm." Bai Ruyi looked toward Zeng Yingrong and said, "Mr. Zeng, thank you for last time."

Zeng Yingrong mustered a smile, "You’re welcome."

Political Commissioner Zhong said, "Let’s go."

After they entered the lobby, the duty officer glanced up but didn’t stand.

As they approached, he finally asked, "What’s the matter?"

Zeng Yingrong asked, "Is Yao Jinsheng here?"

Yao Jinsheng?

The officer paused for a couple of seconds before realizing that this was Director Yao’s full name.

Eyeballing Zeng Yingrong up and down, who was dressed in tactical pants and a camouflage T-shirt obviously suggesting military affiliation, he asked,

"Are you here to file a report or what?"

"I’m looking for Yao Jinsheng."

"Director Yao has left work."

"Call him and ask him to come over," Zeng Yingrong said brusquely, clearly putting the policeman on edge.

"I am just an officer on duty, I don’t have the director’s phone number. Are you here to report a case or what? If you want to report something, report it, but I don’t have any contact numbers for personal inquiries."

The policeman did not take them seriously.

He had seen many such people come in, claiming they needed to see someone specific.

This was the Police Department, not a missing persons agency.

Besides, could you just meet the Director whenever you felt like it?

Zeng Yingrong was about to speak, but Political Commissioner Zhong stepped in front of him and said with a smile, "Officer, could you please call Director Yao? We indeed have a case that we need to discuss with him."

The policeman rolled his eyes and waved his hand impatiently, "Can’t you understand what I’m saying? I told you I don’t have the number. How can I make the call?"

Zeng Yingrong’s breathing became a bit unsteady, and he looked like he was about to lose his temper, when Political Commissioner Zhong said, "Then we would like to file a complaint."

"What complaint?" the policeman asked nonchalantly, holding his teacup.

"It’s like this," Political Commissioner Zhong explained, "Miss Bai here owns a factory in Dujiang County and she has been threatened by local criminals..."

"Stop, stop, stop." The policeman interrupted him, pointing at Bai Ruyi, "She is Miss Bai, right?"

"Yes."

"Then why all the chatter? Let her talk."

"Ah, alright, Miss Bai, please go ahead," Political Commissioner Zhong said, maintaining his smile.

"Recently, my factory..." Bai Ruyi started.

"Stop," the officer interrupted again, "When is ’recently’? You need to provide a specific date."

"The paper and pen are over there. Write down the details and hand them to me."

Bai Ruyi glanced at Zeng Yingrong, whose face had turned even darker.

He had listened to Political Commissioner Zhong, and was not planning to make a scene.

Therefore, he had not allowed the soldiers outside to come in.

But he had not expected to face such obstacles just trying to meet with the head of the county Police Department.

Just as he was about to unleash his anger, Political Commissioner Zhong stopped him again, "Miss Bai, would you write it down?"

"Alright."

Bai Ruyi picked up the paper and pen, walked to the side, and wrote down what had happened.

More than ten minutes later, she finally finished.

She handed over the paper, and the policeman glanced at it briefly before tossing it aside, saying, "Alright, I got it. You all can go back now, we’ll notify you if there’s any progress."

"Bang!"

Zeng Yingrong could no longer hold back and slammed his hand on the marble countertop.

The noise startled the policeman, causing him to spill his tea.

The policeman quickly stood up and yelled, "What are you slamming for? Do you know where you are? This is the Police Department!"

Zeng Yingrong retorted, "Is this how your police treat people who come to file complaints? When did it become necessary to write down complaints instead of just speaking them?"

"Now that it’s written down, you don’t even look at it, just brushing us off!"

"Is this your attitude toward handling cases?"

The policeman, feeling humiliated, pointed at Zeng Yingrong and shouted, "Are you trying to make trouble? Huh? Is that what you’re trying to do?"

Zeng Yingrong’s nostrils flared as he restrained himself from lashing out, "Call Director Yao here for me!"

"A common soldier like you thinks you’re someone important? Do you think you can just see the Director whenever you feel like it?"

The policeman snapped, "Stop making a scene here, or else we’ll arrest you!"

By now, even Political Commissioner Zhong, who had been trying to remain calm, was infuriated by the policeman’s attitude.

Political Commissioner Zhong said, "Xiao Wu, ask your sister for Director Yao’s number."

"Okay," Wu Ming responded as he went to get his phone, while Zeng Yingrong said, "I’ll make the call!"

He reached for the phone, and as he searched his pockets, he accidentally revealed the service handgun attached to his waist, which the policeman saw.

The policeman’s pupils constricted, and he hurriedly called toward the officer inside, "Old Wang, come out, everybody come out, we’ve got trouble here!"

Zeng Yingrong frowned; he had been restraining himself enough, but this policeman was just stepping out of line.

Several duty officers walked out and inquired, "What’s going on?"

With his colleagues’ backup, the policeman quickly drew his gun, pointing it at Zeng Yingrong and his companions, "Put your hands on your head, and squat down!"
