Official Career Storm -
Chapter 13
Chapter 13: Chapter 13
In the taxi, Song Guanchao closed his eyes and feigned sleep as he reflected on the conversation he had just had.
Originally, he had thought that Liang Hao would need at least ten days or half a month to catch on.
But, the man had almost figured it out in one night.
He had done everything he could, his art of language was also pushed to the limit.
Liang Hao was temporarily convinced.
But, that was only temporary.
He absolutely had to connect with a leader soon; otherwise, once Liang Hao confirmed that Song Guanchao had no one backing him, he would make his move against him.
Although he had evidence against Liang Hao in his hand, from today’s interaction, he realized that Liang Hao was not the type to surrender without a fight.
This guy had a ruthless streak deep in his bones!
Using the evidence as a threat might very well backfire when it came to Liang Hao.
Of course, Song Guanchao was not entirely out of options.
He could easily reach out to the old chief.
With the old chief’s influence, one phone call would be enough, and it wouldn’t just be a District Committee Secretary like Liang Hao who would have to listen, even the City Secretary would have no choice but to follow orders.
But Song Guanchao truly did not want to trouble the old chief.
Furthermore, making that call would be tantamount to telling the old chief that he lacked the ability to govern.
He was not one to give up so easily!
"If push comes to shove, then so be it, I’ll break ties!"
Song Guanchao opened his eyes, a fierce determination flickered through them.
The bureaucratic world does not believe in tears, it does not sympathize with the weak, compromising does not ensure safe retreat.
Besides, the evidence he possessed involved more than just Liang Hao!
He was the one in control of the situation!
His thoughts suddenly became clear, the frustration in his heart swept away!
At that moment, Song Guanchao was like a soldier about to enter the battlefield, carrying a fearlessness to break through Lingjiang City’s complex bureaucracy!
Even if he were to be covered in wounds, he would not take a single step back!
The car stopped at the entrance of the residential complex, and Song Guanchao got out and walked straight towards the apartment building.
He needed to spend some time to carefully organize the evidence he had on Li Fuhai and Zhang Yue to see if there was anything he could use at the current stage.
For him, the most important thing right now was to establish a connection.
Although he had an administrative post, in the end, he was just a driver.
Without a leader’s promotion, he would remain a marginal figure, just getting by, for the rest of his life.
When he arrived downstairs, he saw a familiar silhouette.
The other person saw him too, and hurried over with quick, short steps.
"Miss Wu?"
It was Wu Yun, from the Disciplinary Committee’s supervision team.
Song Guanchao was surprised, "Miss Wu, you live here too?"
Wu Yun looked somewhat uneasy as she said, "About yesterday, I’m sorry."
Song Guanchao was taken aback, then quickly grasped what she meant.
Yesterday, she had said that if Song was truly wronged, she would apologize.
Her ability to take action was strong; she said she would apologize, and so she did, without delay.
"It’s ok, it’s all in the past."
Song Guanchao waved his hand and walked past her towards the stairwell.
"Hey, Song Guanchao," Wu Yun caught up and said, "I—I’d like to invite you to dinner."
It was clear that the girl had never humbled herself in such a way; she visibly struggled with the gesture.
But her strong pride forced her to lower her status and come forward to apologize.
After all, she had been decidedly assertive with words like "irrefutable evidence" just the day before.
Song Guanchao said, "It’s only three o’clock, what dinner?"
"If we go now, it will be just about mealtime."
Wu Yun looked at him, "Song Guanchao, about yesterday, I’m sorry. Can you give me a chance to apologize properly?"
"Ok."
Wu Yun let out a sigh of relief, her face breaking into a smile, "Then let’s get in the car."
She pressed the car key, and a red compact car flashed twice in the distance.
It was still early, so after arriving at the mall, they casually strolled around until five o’clock before entering a Sichuan cuisine restaurant.
They chose a seat by the window. Wu Yun, in one breath, ordered seven or eight dishes.
"Just the two of us, why are you ordering so much? Get rid of this dish, don’t want this one either..."
Song Guanchao canceled some dishes before handing the menu back to the waiter.
He picked up a teacup, took a sip, and asked, "I heard that Li Fuhai got taken in for disciplinary review?"
"Yeah, he was taken away at the cafeteria at noon today."
Discussing this topic, Wu Yun seemed somewhat excited, "At first, he refused to confess, but once the evidence was laid out in front of him, he deflated like a punctured ball and spilled everything."
Song Guanchao feigned surprise, "Evidence?"
"Yes, the evidence was quite comprehensive."
Wu Yun whispered mysteriously, "Guess where the evidence came from?"
"A concerned citizen?"
"You’ll never guess." Wu Yun said, "It was Secretary Wu!"
"Ah?" Song Guanchao said, "When did Lingjiang City get a Secretary surnamed Wu?"
"Just started today."
"Ah?"
Song Guanchao’s head was spinning, "Just started today? The City Secretary?"
"Yeah, the City Committee’s full-time deputy secretary."
Wu Yun said, "She was previously the mayor of Wu’an City—a very young, beautiful, and charismatic woman."
"A female secretary?"
"Yes."
"People say every new official fires up three initiatives, but who would have thought Secretary Wu would take down Li Fuhai on her first day."
When talking about Secretary Wu, Wu Yun’s eyes were full of admiration.
Song Guanchao said, "She must have given Secretary Lu a heads-up beforehand, otherwise, a newly transferred deputy secretary couldn’t just oust a vice mayor so openly—how could she carry on with any work after that?"
Wu Yun pouted, "You’re really off the mark with that guess."
"I heard from my dad that even though Secretary Wu is the full-time deputy secretary, Secretary Lu himself has to coordinate with her work."
"What do you mean?"
"You’re really clueless, can’t even understand that? It means that Secretary Wu is nominally the deputy secretary, but she is actually the top leader in Lingjiang City!"
Song Guanchao’s heart skipped a beat. He wanted to say it was impossible.
But he was not familiar with Lingjiang City’s political landscape, whereas Wu Yun’s father could make such a claim, obviously, he was no ordinary person and his understanding of the local government far surpassed Song Guanchao’s.
Suddenly, Song Guanchao felt that this meal was well worth it.
He had obtained quite a bit of useful information from Wu Yun.
First, as he had guessed, Wu Yun’s family background was indeed out of the ordinary; her father’s rank was likely not low.
Second, from her previous comment, it was evident that the political dynamics in Lingjiang City were quite complex.
The position of the full-time deputy secretary had been vacant for a long time, normally expected to be filled by a standing committee member, yet it suddenly parachuted a new person in.
Secretary Wu’s transfer to Ling’an City likely came with the mission to overhaul Ling’an’s bureaucratic scene.
As these thoughts flickered through his mind, Song Guanchao suddenly entertained a bold idea.
Maybe he could get in touch with the newly appointed Secretary Wu!
But how?
He was just a driver, and all his records were with the city government.
And Secretary Wu was in the City Committee; without solid connections, it would be impossible for him to be transferred there.
The first point of contact seemed like an insurmountable mountain standing in his way.
"There might not be a complete lack of methods..."
A spark of insight flashed through Song Guanchao’s mind, and he came up with an idea.
That was to present his own bold proposal and volunteer himself!
With the plan in his mind, Song Guanchao became increasingly distracted, barely paying attention to the meal, and responded half-heartedly to Wu Yun’s topics of conversation.
"You eat." Wu Yun couldn’t stand his indifferent attitude, her face cold as she dropped these words and got up to leave.
"Mhmm." Song Guanchao subconsciously nodded in dismissal, then suddenly snapped back to reality and reflexively grabbed her hand, "There are still dishes that haven’t been served yet."
