Official Career Storm -
Chapter 102
Chapter 102: Chapter 102
Leaving the restaurant, Song Guanchao waited outside the police station for Liang Jiajia to finish work.
While waiting, he reviewed the alarm information.
After several days of intense scrutiny, he had gone through most of the reports from the past half month.
Yet he hadn’t found anything useful.
He wasn’t in a rush.
The lack of noteworthy alarm information was good news.
But this didn’t mean much, it was only a reference.
Who knew what the gun thief was holding back.
"Finished work?"
When he saw Liang Jiajia come out, Song Guanchao quickly approached and got into the car.
Liang Jiajia was still silent, with a faint weariness in her brows.
Back at home, took a shower, and went to bed.
Looking at Liang Jiajia’s back turned towards him, Song Guanchao felt somewhat helpless.
The next morning, Song Guanchao arrived at Secretary Chu’s office.
Secretary Xu showed considerable respect for this powerful figure from the City Committee, at least on the surface.
"Is Secretary Chu busy?"
"Let me check for you." Secretary Xu picked up the office phone, inquired, and then said, "You can go in."
Song Guanchao pushed the door open, and as Chu Xiao’e watched him come in, he sat down opposite her. "You have something for me, Secretary Song?"
Still cold, with a face full of hostility.
Song Guanchao didn’t care, her nomination of Liang Hao during the standing committee implied she had taken Song Guanchao’s words to heart.
Regardless of what Chu Xiao’e was thinking, to outsiders, she was now seen as partnered with Wu Qiangwei.
Song Guanchao smiled and said, "Secretary Chu, thank you for yesterday’s matter."
Chu Xiao’e just hummed lightly, "Anything else?"
"Indeed, there’s something I would like to trouble Secretary Chu with."
"Speak."
This woman, in some ways, was quite similar to Wu Qiangwei.
But she lacked Wu Qiangwei’s composure and experience, and her emotions seemed more volatile.
"Director Liu of the Comprehensive Department, his organizational relationship is still with the school, right?"
"Do you want to transfer him here?"
"Not in a hurry." Song Guanchao said, "I will later see about improving his position at the school."
Then he added, "Has Director Liu offended anyone in the Comprehensive Department?"
Chu Xiao’e replied, "Director Liu writes good reports, but when it comes to relations with colleagues, he’s not that great. Director Yan of the office is not very pleased with him. Oh, by the way, Director Yan may be transferring to the National Development and Reform Commission."
Her words were nuanced, but Song Guanchao understood the situation immediately.
Director Liu was called over, probably because they recognized his reporting skills.
But because he was good at writing reports, Director Yan wanted to take the credit for them, which Director Liu rejected.
Consequently, Director Yan bore a grudge and held back his official assignment.
Ordinarily, a temporary transfer is usually for six months.
After six months, you either return or get an official assignment.
For someone like Director Liu, to be on transfer for two years without a formal position was very rare.
Song Guanchao’s first thought upon learning this was that the man had offended someone.
Now it was confirmed, indeed he had.
And it was his immediate superior.
However, after interacting with Director Liu, he felt the man was quite smart and slick.
It seemed these traits had been forced upon him.
The previous Director Liu must have been an honest person.
Reality had turned him shrewd and worldly.
"Okay, I get it, thank you Secretary Chu."
Song Guanchao asked, "Are you free tonight, Secretary Chu?"
Chu Xiao’e looked at him with a quasi-smile, "You want to take me out for dinner?"
Song Guanchao earnestly responded, "I was offensive before, and tonight I’d like to make amends by treating Secretary Chu to dinner."
Chu Xiao’e intended to refuse, but considering they were now on the same boat, she readily agreed, "Sure."
On the way back, Song Guanchao ran into Secretary Sun.
"Secretary Song, how about a drink tonight?" Secretary Sun suggested with a wink and a nudge.
Song Guanchao showed a face of regret, "I can’t tonight, I have a dinner appointment."
Secretary Sun wasn’t surprised; Song Guanchao had Wu Qiangwei backing him, and countless people tried to curry favor with him, inviting him out every day.
"Then let’s make it tomorrow," Secretary Sun said. "You must keep tomorrow evening free; is that okay?"
Since Secretary Sun had made the effort to come to him, Song Guanchao couldn’t keep putting him off.
"Fine, I’ll make sure I’m free tomorrow evening."
Satisfied with the answer, Secretary Sun then took his leave.
Song Guanchao went to the staircase, descended, and stopped outside the Disciplinary Committee’s office to find Wu Yun.
"Help me check on Director Yan from the Integrated Department."
"What do you need that for?" she asked.
"Just to get to know the colleagues at the City Committee better, it’ll make future work easier."
He could handle such minor matters himself; he asked Wu Yun mainly to keep in touch with her, so she wouldn’t feel that he was neglecting her.
After work in the evening.
Coming out from the City Committee, Song Guanchao felt someone was following him.
While waiting for a taxi by the roadside, he confirmed that he was being trailed by a private car.
It was likely the same police who had suddenly appeared that night.
He secretly noted the car’s license plate and dialed Liang Hao’s number.
"Brother Liang, can you help me check a license plate?"
He sent over the license plate number, and then a taxi stopped, so he climbed in.
The car stopped outside a restaurant; he entered and then sent the restaurant’s address to Chu Xiao’e.
While waiting, he received a list of recent police reports from Liang Jianfeng.
Leaning against the chair, he quietly read through them.
Suddenly.
One of the police reports caught his attention.
Two days ago, a hostess at Jiayue KTV reported that a customer had sexually assaulted her and had beaten her for resisting.
The report was quite brief; he made a note of it, planning to look into it in more detail later.
At this moment, Lu Feng suddenly called.
"Team leader, something has happened on the streets lately."
"Tell me."
"Brother Dao’s place got raided."
"Who’s Brother Dao?"
"A trafficker."
"Give me the details."
"It was about last week; a few of his underlings were distributing goods at a leisure venue, and somebody set them up. There were three underlings, carrying goods worth over fifty thousand, and all of it got snatched."
"Snatched?"
"Yeah."
"Punches thrown?"
"They did, but it happened outside a bar, not many saw it."
"Can you get in touch with Brother Dao?"
"You want to see him, team leader?"
"Yes."
"No problem, come over and I’ll take you to him."
"Alright."
Song Guanchao stood up and left, hailing a taxi straight to the bar street.
He was about to call Chu Xiao’e to cancel tonight’s invitation when Liang Hao called.
"Brother Song, the car belongs to a police officer from the Public Security Brigade, named Yang Bo."
"Public Security Brigade?"
"That’s right," Liang Hao replied. "Do you want me to step in and ask around for you?"
"No need."
Song Guanchao glanced at the time and said, "Brother Liang, do you have time right now?"
"I do."
"I’ve arranged a meeting with Secretary Chu, but I’ve just had an urgent matter come up, could you meet with him for me?"
"Secretary Chu?" Liang Hao had been looking for an opportunity to thank him, so this seemed like a good chance.
"No problem."
After hanging up, Song Guanchao sent Chu Xiao’e a text: "Secretary Chu, I’ve had something urgent come up and won’t be able to make it, instead Mr. Liang will meet with you on my behalf. I’ll invite you out some other time."
