Chapter 90: Chapter 88: Embarrassing Words [2nd Update]

Maya rolled her eyes at her, ignored her, and the woman continued speaking, "Reeking of alcohol, suffocatingly so."

"Maya, what’s with your attitude? Do you know what’s proper, do you know how to spell ’manners’? You’ve caused such a huge issue, the whole family is waiting for you, and what do you do? You go out drinking, drive back, and even drink-drive! Can’t you do something right?"

Hannah looked at Maya’s careless attitude, her face turned pale with anger, and she began scolding her vigorously!

Inside the study, Old Master Spencer was disturbed by her shouting, put down his book, frowned and left the study.

Standing in the hallway, he saw Hannah yelling at Maya.

Honestly speaking, he didn’t like this illegitimate daughter; looking at her, she didn’t remind him at all of her mother. He still remembered her mother as a pretty, gentle, lovely woman, but Maya resembled no one and carried an expression as if everyone owed her money, himself included.

Yet, he didn’t realize that Maya had turned out this way because he didn’t give her enough paternal love, didn’t care enough about her, and always let her suffer.

Watching Maya walk away defensively towards her room, ignoring Hannah, he finally spoke up, sharply calling out, "Maya, stop right there."

Maya heard the man’s voice, turned around, lifted her head, looked up at him as he stood high above, stared directly without asking what he wanted.

Old Master Spencer looked at Maya’s eyes; a chill rose from his feet. He didn’t understand why a young girl’s gaze could be so cold, frighteningly cold.

He swallowed hard, his face serious, "Your mom was talking to you, didn’t you hear? Who allowed you to drink and drive?"

"My mom? My mom is already dead!" Maya exploded hearing the man call Hannah her mom, and immediately rebutted.

"Such an uneducated brat." Hannah angrily cursed from the side.

"Go to my study, reflect upon yourself, write a ten thousand word self-criticism, examining your attitude and your relationship with Kinsley, no ambiguity allowed, explain everything clearly."

Listening to Old Master’s punishment, Maya took a deep breath, her lazy mood quickly became alert.

Study? She hadn’t gone to the study for a long time, hadn’t read mom’s diary for ages; tonight was a rare opportunity, she remembered last time when Liam ruined her chance just when it got interesting.

If it were any other punishment, Maya would definitely ignore Old Master and go back to her room. But the study had a great allure to her, it hid the secrets she most wanted to know.

Thus, she feigned a repentant response: "Alright!"

Later, she showered, changed clothes, headed to the second floor, and sat openly at her father’s desk, pretending to write the self-criticism. When everyone was asleep, she took out a spare key, secretly opened a drawer and took out her mother’s diary.

December 14, 1996, rain, finally fell out with father today; looking at his furious expression, I felt very guilty, but for the sake of the baby in my belly, I had to persist. I love him, and I love our unborn baby.

I believe that one day, father will forgive me, will understand this love, and let me return to his side.

Maya looked at the few lines, and her breath nearly stopped. Her mother was kicked out of the family by grandpa to keep her; she never received forgiveness until her death.

Moreover, her ashes were kept at the funeral home because grandpa wouldn’t accept her, and the Spencers wouldn’t allow her home, so she remained without a place to belong.

Thinking of her mother’s plight, Maya clenched her teeth in anger. She hated, hated all the Spencers; her mother’s greatest wish was to marry Edward Spencer, but they never gave her a status until her death. So she thought, mom must have been coerced by the Spencers to her death.

She then continued reading further into the diary for some time, but noticed the entries were somewhat disordered, and seemed to imply there was another man in mother’s life, and mother evidently didn’t favor her.

Deep in the night, Maya checked her phone; it was already three in the morning. Remembering the ten thousand word self-criticism, she stretched and began to write.

The next day when submitting the self-criticism, she was told by Old Master that she needn’t go to work at the company anymore, to avoid causing further misunderstandings.

Kinsley had no objection, nor did Maya, while Hannah and her daughter were pleased, their mouths forming sly smiles. When Elia Spencer was leaving the house, Hannah helped tidy her collar, advising her.

"Elia, work hard and make sure not to be like some people, unable to do proper things, only engage in shameful actions."

Maya heard Hannah’s mockery, rolled her eyes at her, and went into her own room.

Two days later, in the other building, Old Master received a call from Kinsley.

He said: "Grandpa, Owen Clan Group’s project has been decided; Liam said he will be at ease only if Maya is involved."

Listening to Kinsley’s report, Old Master smirked triumphantly, "Hm! Work matters are important, have that girl return to the company to work on this project."

"Grandpa, Maya doesn’t have much experience at work."

"Having you by her side is enough, the credit will be yours; Grandpa isn’t senile yet."

"Grandpa, that’s not what I meant."

"Then it’s settled."

After hanging up, Old Master smiled slyly, thinking that his plan was straightforward, easily seen through, yet Liam fell for it, knowing it was a honey trap, and still walking into it.

As long as Maya is bound to Spencer Clan with one project, there will be a second. In the future, as long as he can control the girl and make her work for him, gaining benefits from Owen Clan wouldn’t be difficult!

It is said that old ginger is hotter; Old Master knew Liam’s nature better than anyone, which is why he confidently sees this battle won.

And so after hanging up, he summoned Maya for an audience.

On the way to the other building, Maya felt uneasy; Grandpa never liked her, why suddenly did he want to see her? To see her alone, could it be that her reading the diary in the study was discovered?

Thinking her little scheme was seen through, Maya gulped and silently found a hundred excuses to defend herself, ultimately finding none reasonable.

Entering the study, she carefully sat opposite Grandpa’s desk and politely greeted, "Grandpa!"

Old Master saw her politeness, raised his head, took a long breath, and replied, "Hm! I heard from your father about the recent incident, know it was a misunderstanding, you’ve been wronged."

"Hm!" Maya gently responded, continuing to wait for his subsequent words.

Unexpectedly, she heard Grandpa say, "Since the misunderstanding is resolved, you should continue interning at the company, help out well. In the future, Spencer Clan will rely on you youngsters to uphold."
