Chapter 89: Chapter 90 The Snob
The old examiner had always maintained a cold demeanor toward these new candidates.
Now, seeing Lin Mozhu’s strength, his face immediately filled with smiles, a rapid about-face that surprised many among the crowd.
"Given Lin Mozhu’s strength, it’s a sure thing that he will enter the Inner Sect after this assessment. It’s quite normal for the old man to curry favor with him," Chu Fengmian thought when he saw this scene.
Indeed, the old examiner was stronger than Lin Mozhu, but he was already around seventy to eighty years old.
If he couldn’t find an opportunity to break through to the Sea of God realm, his power would have reached its limit.
And Lin Mozhu was not even twenty years old yet, with limitless future achievements. It made sense for the old examiner to ingratiate himself with Lin Mozhu now, in hope of benefitting from him once Lin Mozhu grew in stature.
Many Outer Sect Disciples were used to the examiner’s behavior.
Although Lin Mozhu was not yet a Disciple of Wusheng Martial Arts Academy and, according to the rules, should not be allowed into the palace, the old man was the proctor of this assessment. Once he spoke up, naturally nobody opposed.
"Ah, why can Lin Mozhu go inside the hall while we have to stand outside?"
Several Martial Artists, who had just passed the assessment, complained dissatisfied upon hearing the old man’s words.
Those who had passed the test were all required to wait outside until the first phase of the assessment was over before they could proceed to the second phase.
Meanwhile, Lin Mozhu was allowed to enter the palace right away to rest quietly. The differential treatment naturally stirred their discontent.
"If you can reach the fifth level or above of the Tempering Body realm, you too can enter the hall to rest," the old man said coldly, glancing at the few Martial Artists.
"All those who passed the assessment, leave quickly and wait outside the palace," he ordered.
"I won’t accept this! This rule isn’t part of the assessment at all; you, as a proctor, how can you break the rules!" the few Martial Artists shouted angrily.
"Are the rules of Wusheng Martial Arts Academy so easily broken?"
Foolish.
Hearing the words of these Martial Artists, Chu Fengmian sneered inwardly.
Rules.
In this world, the only true rule was strength; without strength, all other rules were meaningless.
Those Martial Artists, merely at the eighth or ninth level of the Bone Tempering realm, what right did they have to discuss rules with the old man?
As expected, the old examiner’s expression turned grim instantly upon hearing their challenge.
He had just spoken to quickly dismiss those Martial Artists, giving them a way out, but if these few didn’t grasp the situation, he as an Outer Sect Executive and proctor of this exam, why would he fear them?
"Get lost! If you continue to make noise, your eligibility for the assessment will be revoked," the old man said icily.
"Hmph, even if you are the proctor for this time, you don’t have the authority to revoke our eligibility, do you? We have all passed the first test," one of the Martial Artists retorted angrily.
He now dared to directly confront the old man, believing that since he had passed the first phase of the assessment, he needn’t fear the old examiner.
He had passed in front of everyone, and he didn’t believe that the old man would truly revoke his test eligibility.
"Well, I didn’t expect this generation’s youngsters to be so arrogantly out of bounds, daring to lecture an old man like me," the old examiner said with a chill in his eyes, pointing at the few who had just spoken.
"You, you, and you, your eligibility is now revoked. Get out of Wusheng Martial Arts Academy at once!"
"You dare?"
The Martial Artist wanted to retort, but saw several Outer Sect Disciples had already arrived.
The newcomers immediately made their move, capturing all the Martial Artists who had just spoken out.
And threw them out of the palace.
"Humph, disturbing the peace, next," the old man said calmly, seated in his place, and spoke again.
This time, there was a hush in the audience, and no one dared to confront the old man anymore.
Many now understood that even though the old man was just an Outer Sect Executive, he was also a Martial Artist at the eighth level of the Tempering Body realm. His status was much higher than those who were merely menial Disciples.
How could Wusheng Martial Arts Academy possibly punish this old man over a few menial Disciples?
"Next," he called.
The assessment continued and this time, a noble girl in a white dress stepped forward.
"It’s Princess Qu."
"Her power might even be stronger than Lin Mozhu’s," some thought to themselves, watching her extend her hand toward the test stone and strike.
"Thump, thump, thump."
The red light flashed by, followed by an orange light that shot up to a significant height in an instant.
"Tempering Body realm seven layers."
Seeing the orange light stop at the seventh stone, many Outer Sect Disciples gasped in admiration.
This delicate-looking Qu Wuyin had even greater strength than Lin Mozhu.
"She must be Qu Wuyin, one of the four prodigies among the newcomers, her power is indeed frightening."
"Compared to her strength, her beauty is the true terror. It’s said that even before she came to Wusheng Martial Arts Academy, many Inner Sect Disciples wanted to court her. Now that she has arrived, I fear those men will go mad one by one."
"Such beauty is not a good thing for a woman; without strength, it could lead to trouble," one Martial Artist couldn’t help but say.
A beautiful appearance, for some women, isn’t necessarily a good thing but rather a disaster.
After all, beauty is like a Treasure, without the strength to protect it, it becomes a curse instead.
"Hey, don’t you know? With this woman’s identity, even the Inner Sect Disciples of Wusheng Martial Arts Academy wouldn’t dare to be forceful, they can only court her," another Martial Artist said.
"Otherwise, do you think those Inner Sect geniuses would wait so patiently?"
"Identity, what is this woman’s identity?" the previous Martial Artist inquired urgently.
"Let me tell you, this woman is..."
"Quiet!"
The old examiner suddenly shouted, interrupting everyone’s conversation.
He looked at Qu Wuyin and, just as before, smiled as he spoke.
"You too, go inside the hall and wait for the end of the assessment," he said.
"Yes."
Qu Wuyin complied with a single word and left proudly.
Qu Wuyin’s identity was indeed extraordinary.
Chu Fengmian chuckled to himself.
However, whatever Qu Wuyin’s identity was, it didn’t matter to Chu Fengmian.
Having experienced his previous life, Chu Fengmian naturally understood that these identities and backgrounds were of little use to a Martial Artist; only one’s own strength served as the true proof.
