52: Chapter 52 Underestimating Someone 52: Chapter 52 Underestimating Someone Today, the Weapon Hall was bustling, filled with martial artists.
Chu Fengmian entered and went straight to the doorman, saying,
“Go get your shopkeeper; I need to talk to him.”
“Who are you to come looking for our shopkeeper directly?
Our shopkeeper is busy every day with countless affairs and doesn’t have time to meet a nobody like you.
Get out of here.”
The servant glanced at Chu Fengmian’s cultivation level and spoke disdainfully.
A first level body-refinement realm—while considered a strong fighter in Linwu City, it meant nothing to the Weapon Hall, which stood above the city’s very existence.
Even the City Lord of Linwu City had to book an appointment in advance if he wished to see the Weapon Hall’s shopkeeper.
The servant naturally looked down upon Chu Fengmian’s request to meet the Weapon Hall’s shopkeeper.
“Is that so?
I didn’t realize that not just the City Lord’s residence but even this Weapon Hall has some ignorant fools clueless about life and death,” Chu Fengmian said with a sneer after sizing up the servant.
“Boy, do you dare to cause trouble in the Weapon Hall?
Guards!” scoffed the servant at Chu Fengmian’s words.
In the Weapon Hall, even the City Lord wouldn’t dare to make a move; what did he have to fear?
The dispute between the two had already drawn the attention of many martial artists.
“Look at that man, isn’t that Steward Chu?
They say he has condensed a Spirit Vein and it’s been three months since we’ve seen him; he’s actually stepped into the body-refinement realm.”
Some martial artists recognized Chu Fengmian.
They hadn’t realized who he was at first, but upon closer examination, they saw it was indeed him.
Chu Fengmian’s current demeanor was wholly different from what it was before; upon casual glance, ordinary martial artists would find it hard to associate this contrasting image with the same person.
“He’s gotten into a conflict with a Weapon Hall servant?”
“The servants of the Weapon Hall are notoriously arrogant, never taking us seriously.
Now, it seems they’ve provoked Steward Chu.”
“Provoked?
So what?
The Weapon Hall isn’t afraid of the City Lord’s residence.
If there’s a fight today, only he is likely to suffer,” commented the martial artists, their voices suddenly cutting off.
Two martial artists had emerged from the Weapon Hall.
These two, both at the first level of the body-refinement realm, would be considered elites among the Inner Sect Disciples in Linwu City’s ranks, but in the Weapon Hall, they were just a pair of enforcer lackeys.
“Steward Chu, weren’t you acting all high and mighty?
Why so silent now?” said the servant with newfound boldness, seeing the two martial artists approach.
“Break his legs and throw him out!” he commanded.
“Yes!” replied the two martial artists in unison.
As guards for the Weapon Hall, they did not concern themselves with the status of their adversary.
“Our apologies!” they both exclaimed as they each reached for one of Chu Fengmian’s arms, attempting to throw him out.
“Hmph.”
Chu Fengmian gave them a glance, and with a surge of strength in his arms, he hoisted them up and threw them to the ground.
“Bang!”
A loud noise erupted, and the crowd looked on to see Chu Fengmian still standing in place, unmoved.
At Chu Fengmian’s feet were the two guards who had just attacked, now lying on the ground.
Though Chu Fengmian was injured, dealing with two first level body-refinement martial artists was still a piece of cake for him.
“I’ll give you one last chance; have your shopkeeper come out,” Chu Fengmian said, glancing coldly at the servant.
“This is your last chance.”
“What chance!
Kid, you dare to cause trouble in Spirit Vein Pavilion, it looks like you really want to be impatient!
Come, someone come!
There’s trouble here!”
“Who dares to cause trouble in my Spirit Vein Pavilion!”
A deep voice suddenly rang out.
On the stairs, an elder slowly descended.
His voice carried endless authority, and it was none other than the shopkeeper of the Spirit Vein Pavilion, Xuan Jingtai.
“Shopkeeper of the Spirit Vein Pavilion has arrived.”
“This is troublesome for Chu Fengmian, the great steward.”
Many martial artists thought to themselves.
“Shopkeeper, it’s him who caused trouble in our Spirit Vein Pavilion.”
Upon seeing the arrival of Xuan Jingtai, the lackey hastily spoke, his eyes looking toward Chu Fengmian, as if he wanted to see how Chu Fengmian would be thrown out soon.
However, the next scene shocked him to the core.
The originally infuriated Xuan Jingtai, upon seeing the arrival of Chu Fengmian, softened his expression instantly, even showing a hint of a smile.
“So it’s the great steward Chu who has arrived.”
Xuan Jingtai turned to Chu Fengmian, smiling as he spoke, with a tone that carried a hint of respect.
Yes, respect.
Even when facing the City Lord of Linwu City, Xuan Jingtai would remain calm, neither humble nor arrogant, let alone actively trying to please a junior.
Everyone couldn’t help but rub their eyes, almost unable to believe what they were seeing.
The lackey felt the same, he had thought that Xuan Jingtai would unquestionably throw Chu Fengmian out, but now the reality was completely the opposite, with a welcoming smile.
“Shopkeeper, this kid had just hit our Spirit Vein Pavilion guard.”
The lackey quickly spoke up.
“Hmm?”
Xuan Jingtai glanced at Chu Fengmian, and then at the lackey, suddenly his expression changed as he spoke in a cold voice.
“Is it you who offended our prestigious guest of Spirit Vein Pavilion?”
“Prestigious guest?”
The lackey hadn’t reacted yet, and Xuan Jingtai had already turned to Chu Fengmian and said,
“This little one doesn’t know any better, having affronted the great steward Chu.
How he should be punished, I shall leave it to you, great steward Chu.”
“Alright.”
Chu Fengmian nodded, not refusing, walking over to the lackey, grabbing his clothes, and lifting him up.
“Were you just thinking of throwing Chu someone out?”
Chu Fengmian said calmly, then exerted force with his hand and threw the lackey out of the Spirit Vein Pavilion, directly onto the street.
With the throw, Chu Fengmian didn’t use much strength; he merely wanted to teach the lackey a lesson, not to cause severe injury.
Chu Fengmian was not a bloodthirsty person; although the lackey had offended him, teaching him a lesson was sufficient.
Xuan Jingtai watched as Chu Fengmian threw the lackey out without a change of expression and spoke up.
“Great steward Chu, please come upstairs.”
“Alright.”
Chu Fengmian moved and walked towards the second floor.
It was only after Chu Fengmian and Xuan Jingtai had been gone for quite a while that the martial artists snapped back to reality.
When had someone been allowed to throw out a lackey from the Spirit Vein Pavilion, especially considering Xuan Jingtai’s courteous manner towards Chu Fengmian, even the City Lord of Linwu City didn’t seem to receive such courtesy.
Looking at Chu Fengmian, he seemed to be quite familiar with Xuan Jingtai of the Spirit Vein Pavilion; all of this completely overturned their perception.
