Nine Realms Sword Emperor -
Chapter 30 - 30 30 The Pool
30: Chapter 30: The Pool 30: Chapter 30: The Pool “Brother Chu.”
Hao Lan turned his head to look at Chu Fengmian but seemed somewhat at a loss for words.
It was Wang He who just now had not heeded Chu Fengmian’s advice and had even attempted to provoke him, who had now taken the initiative to step forward and fall into the trap laid by the hunter spider.
Yet, Wang He was still their companion, having come out from the Wusheng Academy together, and Hao Lan couldn’t bear to see him die before their very eyes.
The only one who could deal with the hunter spider now was Chu Fengmian.
“Alright.”
Chu Fengmian nodded in agreement before Hao Lan could even speak.
In the blink of an eye, Chu Fengmian drew his Xuanqing Sword and charged toward the front ravine.
The moment Chu Fengmian set foot in the ravine, the surrounding area was suddenly overwhelmed with webs, at least seven or eight, all trapping Chu Fengmian in their snare.
“Be careful, Brother Chu.”
Yue Zhanqing called out anxiously.
Once tainted with any of these webs, one would be trapped inside.
The only escape was to reach the level of body tempering, to forcefully break free from the webs using sheer strength, otherwise, escape was impossible.
“Wuji Sword Dance!”
Chu Fengmian’s face remained calm in the face of the oncoming webs from all directions, as placid as ever, as if the danger at hand was not even worth his attention.
A martial artist’s most crucial trait is composure – the greater the danger and the deeper the crisis, the more necessary it is to remain calm.
“Hisss!”
Chu Fengmian’s Xuanqing Sword struck out instantaneously in all directions, severing the surrounding webs with a flurry of more than a dozen slashes.
“Hisss hisss hisss!”
Watching its carefully laid trap destroyed by Chu Fengmian, the hunter spider hissed angrily, as if incited to fury.
Its huge form pounced toward Chu Fengmian, and from its mouth, a glob of venom was ejected.
The most terrifying feature of the hunter spider was not just its webs but also its venom which could corrode flesh and blood.
Once contaminated, the venom would gradually dissolve one’s flesh.
“Phantom!”
Chu Fengmian muttered under his breath, his figure drowned by the venom, but it was just an afterimage of Chu Fengmian that the poison had flooded.
Chu Fengmian’s true body had already reached the back of the hunter spider.
By the time the hunter spider realized and attempted to turn around,
Chu Fengmian’s sword had already struck, piercing the spider’s head.
“Bang!”
A gush of blood spurted out, followed by the giant body of the hunter spider collapsing to the ground.
“The hunter spider’s Demon Core can fetch a good price.”
Chu Fengmian walked beside the spider’s corpse, cut open its head, retrieved a Demon Core, and as he muttered, he placed it into his storage bag.
“Disciple Wang, are you alright?”
Mo Changhen also hurried forward, slashing the webs off Wang He and rescuing him.
“Brother Chu, we owe you another favor.”
Hao Lan stood by, somewhat embarrassed as he looked at Chu Fengmian.
It was precisely because Wang He had just now refused to believe Chu Fengmian that he had fallen into the trap, eventually causing trouble that still required Chu Fengmian’s intervention to resolve.
Hao Lan couldn’t help but glare at Wang He.
“It’s good that you’re safe.
This time, it should prove that what Chu said was true, right?”
Chu Fengmian sheathed the Xuanqing Sword and spoke evenly.
After Mo Changhen rescued Wang He from the webs and saw that Wang He was not injured, he quickly said to Wang He.
“Disciple Wang, don’t hesitate to apologize to Brother Chu.”
“Big Brother Chu, I was wrong.”
Wang He bowed his head to apologize, but his tone didn’t sound apologetic at all; it was filled with resentment.
He resented Chu Fengmian for knowing there were demons in the mountain stream and not stopping him from entering, only to act after he had gone in.
Clearly, Chu Fengmian had the strength to deal with the Hunter Spider, yet had them take a detour, which led to him losing face in front of everyone.
“Damn!
He’s trying to put me in my place!”
Wang He cursed inwardly.
As an Inner Sect Disciple of the Wusheng Academy, he had always been proud and arrogant; but now, he was being commanded by someone like Chu Fengmian, an outsider, which he couldn’t accept.
Especially since Mo Changhen, Hao Lan, and others, who were also disciples of the Wusheng Academy, didn’t stand with him, but rather sided with Chu Fengmian and reprimanded him.
So even though Chu Fengmian had saved him, Wang He still wondered why Chu Fengmian didn’t stop him, didn’t kill the Demon Hunter Spider earlier and let him lose all dignity instead.
“We really owe Big Brother Chu a big favor this time.”
“We certainly are in his debt now.”
Hao Lan, Mo Changhen, and some others were somewhat embarrassed as they spoke beside Chu Fengmian.
Seeing this scene only made Wang He feel even more jealous.
Why was Chu Fengmian, a boy from a remote region, so revered, while his own words were always refuted?
Wang He’s thoughts, naturally, couldn’t escape the keen eyes of Chu Fengmian.
In his previous life, Chu Fengmian had experienced too much, and now he could see through Wang He’s thoughts at a glance.
However, Chu Fengmian had no intention of bickering with Wang He; everyone got only one chance from him.
This time Chu Fengmian had taken action to save him, but the next time, Chu Fengmian would definitely not intervene.
“Now that the Hunter Spider has been slain, let’s proceed through the mountain stream,”
Chu Fengmian said, without even glancing at Wang He.
To him, Wang He was just an insignificant person; Chu Fengmian had saved Wang He solely for the sake of faces like Hao Lan and Mo Changhen.
This time Chu Fengmian deliberately didn’t stop Wang He, solely to teach him a lesson.
Whether Wang He learned from it or not was beyond what Chu Fengmian cared to manage.
“Alright.”
Mo Changhe nodded.
Passing through the mountain stream was indeed the quickest way.
After a brief rest, everyone got up and continued their journey into the heart of the mountain stream.
Crossing the mountain stream, they soon caught a glimpse of a dense forest in the distance.
Beyond the forest, a small pool came into view.
In the center of this pool, one could easily see a golden glow.
The golden lights were not large, but even from a distance, they were very conspicuous.
“It really is the Imperial Luan Grass.”
Seeing the bird-shaped golden herbs, Chu Fengmian exclaimed in surprise.
Indeed, it was the Imperial Luan Grass, and it seemed to be of a very high age.
The dazzling golden light was a manifestation of its Spiritual Power.
“Indeed, the Imperial Luan Grass is on the island in the center of the pool.
However, within this pool, there lies a Cold Water Serpent.
Without slaying the serpent, it is impossible to reach the island,”
Mo Changhen spoke from the side.
The pool was not large, and the island was probably only ten meters away from the shore.
For a Martial Artist, it would take just a few steps to traverse the surface of the water.
But with a Cold Water Serpent in play, the task became immensely difficult.
