Chapter 436: Chapter 436 Crossing the River (Part 2)
The Nine-star Martial Sect elder, Zhen Kang, had initially thought someone moved by his story, revealing himself to protect him when he heard the interruption. However, when he saw Shi Feng’s joyful and grateful expression, his mood dimmed upon hearing Shi Feng’s subsequent words.
He sighed inwardly, "Alas!"
But when the elder’s gaze shifted to Ning Cheng’s face, the elder nodded at him and said, "Thank you!"
Ning Cheng also noticed the elder’s expression and heard his words of gratitude. He then struck a righteous pose, straightened his face, and declared loudly, "No need for thanks, eliminating evil and punishing the wicked is my bounden duty filled with justice!" At this point, Ning Cheng paused, scanned the Martial Artists gathered on the shorelines, and continued,
"Let it be known to all of you, I’ll be relentless in pursuing and eradicating anyone found doing evil deeds, even to the ends of the earth!"
Instantly, that fanatic, with his expressions and gestures, seemed to genuinely become a crusader for justice!
"This lunatic, he even acts the part!" the Kirin King muttered disdainfully while observing Ning Cheng.
A while later, Shi Feng’s gaze returned to Zhen Kang. He approached the elder and whispered softly, "Alright, now fly over there and try, but remember, be cautious and make no noise!"
"Understood!" Zhen Kang nodded gravely, his fate of life or death about to be determined.
Immediately, Zhen Kang shifted his form and dashed towards the Black River. He was cautious and silent as instructed by Shi Feng. Continuing on his path, he did not encounter any dangers and soon his figure disappeared into the dense gray-white fog.
Zhen Kang was the third person to dash toward the Black River and the most cautious one. He was the first to disappear from sight due to the thick fog.
Time passed, and the Black River remained tranquil. There were no chilling screams or massive splashes from any enormous creatures entering the river. Judging by the speed and time, Zhen Kang would have crossed the Black River by now.
"No noises, still no noises. Did the elder genuinely cross the river?"
"It seems likely, just be cautious and quiet, and maybe the presence in the river won’t notice."
"Yes, that must be it! Let’s cross now!"
"Wait!" Just as several Martial Artists were about to cross, Shi Feng, still staring towards the Black River, raised his right hand, stopping them. Then, turning around, his cold gaze swept over the Martial Artists as he said chillingly, "You wait and let us go first."
"Why! Why should you go first! The creature in the river might be asleep now; we should cross while we can, or it might wake up later." A One-star Martial Venerable protested, visibly aggrieved.
"Yes, but..." Another One-star Martial Venerable tried to argue, but he stopped abruptly after uttering two words.
Soon, everyone halted their objections.
Because they saw the cold-faced youth reach out his right hand and grab the face of the man who had just spoken.
And this Martial Venerable, a One-star themselves, had no ability to resist in front of this youth. He was lifted off the ground by his face.
Then, to everyone’s horror, five blood arrows shot from the Martial Venerable’s orifices towards the youth’s palm, and his body quickly withered into a mummy, just like Zhao Qingyun’s corpse.
Shi Feng tossed the withered corpse aside like trash. His icy gaze turned once more to the Martial Artists and he coldly stated, "One minute. We cross in this one minute. If any of you dare to disobey, that man will be your example."
After saying this, Shi Feng’s icy gaze swept over the Martial Artists again. Seeing that no one dared to speak, even some evading his glance, he finally withdrew his gaze and said to the Kirin King and Ning Cheng, "Let’s go."
"Understood!"
"Alright!"
The Kirin King and Ning Cheng nodded and then the three of them turned and dashed into the Black River, maintaining silence during their crossing.
Yuel Wushuang was still trapped in the array, her life or death uncertain, so Shi Feng had no choice but to set an example swiftly, ensuring no one dared to cross with him.
Who knew if those crossing with him might accidentally make noise and awaken whatever laid in the river, placing their fates in someone else’s hands. Such actions were foolish. Shi Feng couldn’t afford to die; Wushuang awaited his rescue, and Hong Yue awaited the Divine Medicine he was to find in this Death Forbidden Land.
The group of Martial Artists quietly watched as Shi Feng and the others flew over the Black River. Under Shi Feng’s warning, indeed, no one dared cross during that one minute. A previously silent Martial Artist turned to a Four-star Martial Venerable next to him, a venerable elder with white hair and a youthful face, the highest Martial Arts Realm present.
"Senior, with your Martial Arts Cultivation, why didn’t you stop that arrogant man?" the quiet Martial Artist asked.
Then, many pricked up their ears to hear the Four-star Martial Venerable’s response. The elder spoke, "That young man, being a Two-star Martial Venerable, is insignificant in my eyes. What I fear is that youth in white; his Martial Arts Cultivation is inscrutable even to me. To all of you, he appears merely as a One-star Martial Emperor."
"What! Not even you can discern? With his young age, what Realm has he actually reached?" Another Martial Artist gasped upon hearing the elder’s words.
"I don’t know, but likely much higher than ours. He is a true genius! His future achievements are unimaginable!" the elder said, watching the figures on the Black River, especially the white-clad figure, and sighed.
He had always been cautious, never taking actions unless certain of success, naturally not coming forward to stop Shi Feng, who was accompanied by Ning Cheng!
