Nine Nether Heavenly Emperor -
Chapter 274: Anomaly of the Stele
Chapter 274: Chapter 274: Anomaly of the Stele
Shi Feng had just straightened his body when he heard the Giant’s thunderous voice ring in his ears, and immediately, Shi Feng roared at the Giant, "Quit your yapping, and keep climbing the mountain!"
With a great roar, a terse "quit your yapping," the Giant found himself bewildered, being scolded by a Little Human Clan member. The Little Human Clan, which were once merely food to him, would have been squashed flat under his palm and chewed in his mouth if not for the promise of leaving this place that this little human tempted him with.
But despite his irritation, the Giant suppressed the urge to flatten Shi Feng into the ground and extinguish that hope.
"Hmph!" The proud Giant let out a roar like rolling thunder, seemingly petulant as he once again rushed towards the peak at breakneck speed, "Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!" Without even glancing below as he ran, the Giant kicked and shattered anything that stood in his way.
Soon, the Giant entered the ninety-fold gravity zone with Shi Feng, suddenly subjecting Shi Feng to ten times the gravity he was barely withstanding in the eighty-fold zone, pressing him heavily down again. It felt as though he carried a heavy mountain on his back, pressing down with force, threatening to completely crush Shi Feng into powder.
"Ha!" Shi Feng bellowed towards the sky, his face twisted and fierce within the Blood-colored Flame, "Hiss! Crack! Crack! Crack." The sounds were his flesh tearing under the pressure and his bones breaking, akin to the popping of beans.
"Nine Nether is immortal, forever unyielding!" Shi Feng growled low, his hands forming a strange and profound Handprint, while he swallowed one after another pill, marvelous in their healing and injury-restoring properties.
"Hmm?" Suddenly, a profound sensation washed down over him, rippling through Shi Feng’s body. Then Shi Feng felt a release, the gravity that burdened him disappearing in that moment. Could the Giant have possibly carried him completely out of the gravity zone? No, that couldn’t be right. They were still at some distance from the summit, and logic dictated that the gravity should be at its most fierce in the region they were now entering.
"That feeling just now!" Recalling that somewhat surreal profound sensation, Shi Feng immediately looked towards the Blood-colored Stone Stele at the peak. It felt as if that feeling had emanated from the Stele itself. And now, looking at the Blood-colored Stone Stele, Shi Feng felt an odd connection.
"Could it be? Could my luck have exploded and this Blood-colored Stone Stele has been waiting here to choose its master, and it chose me?" Shi Feng said in astonishment and doubt. The stories of strange treasures picking their owners were clichéd and abundant, but Shi Feng had never believed them. To contend for a Heavenly Earth Strange Treasure was to rely on one’s actual strength.
While it’s true that the Source of All Things had chosen him in the past, that entity was not at his command, nor had it become his treasure; instead, it resided within his flesh, and he had no idea how to chase it away.
And when the Source of All Things chose him back then, it was surely because of his strength.
But now, feeling that odd connection to the Blood-colored Stone Stele, Shi Feng felt it was real and tangible. "Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!" The Giant continued running amidst the Blood-colored Peaks, and the closer Shi Feng got to the Blood-colored Stone Stele, the more real and vivid that peculiar feeling became. Finally, Shi Feng decided to retract the Blood-colored Flame burning around him back into his body.
"Boom!" With one final, violent roar, as the Giant approached the summit, his massive body leapt upwards, landing heavily. The entire Blood-colored Peak trembled and shook fiercely under the Giant’s tumult.
Following the giant, standing on its shoulder, Shi Feng finally reached the peak of the mountain. At this distance, Shi Feng was sure that the mysterious sensation was emanating from the Blood-colored Stone Stele.
"First, let me down to decrypt the Stele," Shi Feng said to the giant.
"Oh!" The giant nodded its huge head and then reached out its large hand. It gently grasped Shi Feng and bent over, carefully placing Shi Feng onto the ground.
The giant didn’t waste words or make threats, simply watching Shi Feng quietly. If Shi Feng could solve the riddle, great; if not, the giant was ready to crush this member of the Little Human Clan to death.
Standing on the blood-colored ground, Shi Feng approached the enormous stele. Other than its sheer size and blood color, there seemed nothing special about it at first glance, no runes or Array Scripts visible on its surface. But being so close, that strange feeling was distinctly clear and pronounced, as if something was calling out to him.
"Have you discovered or sensed anything?" Shi Feng communicated with the Sacred Flame using Soul Power and asked.
"Nothing!" the Sacred Flame replied. "Kid, I told you before you were playing with fire. I can’t see anything unusual about this Blood-colored Stone Stele, nor any trace of an Array. Be ready to run at any moment; otherwise, if that member of the Giant Clan smashes you to bits, even I will be obliterated with you."
"Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean I can’t," Shi Feng said. He stepped closer to the Blood-colored Stone Stele, the curious sensation growing even stronger. Then, he extended his hand and pressed it against the Stele.
At the moment Shi Feng’s hand touched the Blood-colored Stone Stele, "Boom! Boom! Boom!" Suddenly, the Stele began to shake violently, emitting thunderous roars.
The giant was shocked at first, but then a crude face broke into excitement and joy, "He! He can really decrypt this stele! He truly can! I can finally go home! At last, I can!" The giant had been striking the Blood-colored Stele for years, yet it hadn’t budged an inch, but this Little Human Clan member seemed to have touched something within it, generating tremors.
Within the Blood-colored Peak, virtually all Martial Artists who had come here were now watching the activity at the summit. Upon seeing Shi Feng press down on the Stele, they immediately let out heart-wrenching cries, "No! This Heavenly Earth Strange Treasure is mine! No one else can touch it! Get your hand off it!"
"I am the protagonist of this world! The strange treasure is mine! Giant, why didn’t you befriend me and take me to the peak? I hate this!"
"How can such a vile person as the Black-clothed Death God deserve this treasure? How could he! If such an Evil Demon were to obtain it, then our Heavenly Mist Empire would never have a day of peace!"
Sounds of unbearable howls echoed, as agonizing as if someone was being violated, the voices filled with desolation.
Yang Zhong remained silent as he watched the summit, not howling, but his entire body shook violently, his face filled with resentment. Why did all the good fortunes end up with him?
