Night Without End -
Chapter 56 - 56 38 Sleepless Night
56: Chapter 38 Sleepless Night 56: Chapter 38 Sleepless Night Qin Ming was truly startled, with a chill at his fingertips that began to seep into his hand—how could he possibly remain calm?
He immediately shook his hand vigorously, then tried to pull away.
A day had passed, the Sun Stone in the bronze basin was no longer as bright, and the room was dim.
Yet even so, Qin Ming felt he should have noticed the mysterious substance earlier; he only discovered it through the tactile sensation on his hand.
He approached the basin, took out a piece of Sun Stone, and observed it under the remnants of the evening’s fiery glow.
“Has a piece of ice melted?”
This ice-cold liquid was colorless and tasteless, easy to miss.
When Qin Ming crushed the stone, it showed no signs of unusualness.
“Could this be rainwater that seeped into the rock, then froze, and was nourished by Heavenly Light, turning into a mysterious substance?” he wondered doubtfully.
Because this chilling liquid had no distinctiveness.
That most precious substance should emit columns of ten-colored light reaching the heavens, catching the eyes from all directions, destined to spread through many splendid cities, sparking heated discussions, and surely to be recorded in history books.
“You’re just the corner material, aside from being cold to the point of sting, why do you lack any divine traits?” Qin Ming observed with furrowed brows.
After he shook his hand violently, the liquid didn’t continue to penetrate.
Strangely, it didn’t spill to the ground either, but it seemed not to have any stickiness either.
“What’s its use?” Qin Ming pondered.
This type of liquid showed no characteristics, making him frown because he didn’t know how to use it.
Let it permeate into his flesh and blood?
He felt uncertain.
He had already learned from Mu Qing and Cao Long that the mysterious substances nurtured by Heavenly Light were diverse; some were not only unbeneficial but could even be harmful to one’s body.
“Hmm?” Qin Ming’s expression subtly changed.
He thought he had forced the chill out of his body.
After shaking his hand violently, the liquid did not enter his flesh.
However, it didn’t seem to be the case now.
There was an unusual sensation in his right hand.
The area that had been cold was now warm.
Moreover, that warm flow spread quickly, precisely moving; it flowed from his fingers into his arm and quickly from his shoulder to his neck.
Although it was comfortable, this surprise still put Qin Ming on high alert.
He immediately used the Xinsheng Skill described in the silk scripture to defend himself.
But it was useless; on the contrary, that warm flow began to surge!
Most crucially, the portion of cold liquid he hadn’t shaken off was now fully permeating into his fingers, turning from cold to hot, moving up his arm.
“I admit you’re not a dead pool of water, somewhat special.
Can we stop for now?
Give me a moment to catch my breath!” Qin Ming, facing this unknown and unpredictable situation, tried various methods to no avail.
“Did it all come inside?” He swung his arm, continuously rubbed his hands, and golden patterns emerged on his body, but they were of no use; instead, they accelerated the process.
The bone-chilling liquid rapidly transformed within his flesh, warmth billowing.
Then, whether it was in his left hand or right hand, it moved upward, like rivers converging into the sea, ultimately reaching the center of his forehead.
Qin Ming watched himself in the mirror, unable to stop it; he could only calmly observe.
The center of his forehead grew increasingly warm until all the warm flows converged, and his entire frontal bone began to glow, spreading into the depths of his head.
He felt no discomfort; that rich warmth finally spread.
Qin Ming carefully felt it out; apart from a full sense of vigor, there seemed to be no other abnormalities.
He picked up his long-handled Wujin Hammer and went to the courtyard to practice his Blade Technique.
There was no increase in strength, no noticeable change in constitution.
However, Qin Ming knew this liquid definitely was not so simple; it couldn’t have left no trace.
The changes it caused had yet to be discovered by him.
He looked up at the night sky, which grew a bit clearer; the night fog seemed not so dense, his vision slightly improved, but it was not particularly noticeable.
After eating something indiscriminately, Qin Ming came to the entrance of the village, standing by Fire Spring under the Black and White Tree.
He rubbed the rough bark with his hand—one tree was black as ink, while the other seemed carved from White Jade, its leaves remaining unfallen in the cold winter.
“This liquid is from Black and White Mountain, and you are the seeds that drifted from there…”
Clearly, Qin Ming thought too much—even though he took a black and a white leaf into his mouth, there was nothing unusual.
“Let’s leave it at that for now.” He consoled himself; since his body felt no discomfort, in fact quite spirited, there probably wouldn’t be any calamities.
Suddenly, he sensed something.
Noise came from Old Man Liu’s house, where he lived at the village entrance, accompanied by the cries of children and women.
Within just tens of meters, Qin Ming instantly entered the courtyard door, his brow slightly furrowed.
He saw three huge roaming chickens.
One of them was particularly unique, with light yellow feathers that faintly glowed, and very thick legs with exceptionally sharp claws that left slight scratches on the bluestone ground of the courtyard.
It was much stronger than the other two chickens, likely the so-called mutated Golden Chicken.
There was a solemn-looking man in the courtyard; although he was lowering his voice, it was apparent he was on the verge of exploding in anger.
Qin Ming realized this was one of the Golden Chicken Knights from Jinji Ridge.
What brought him to Old Man Liu’s house?
Beside him were two other people, also whispering to Old Man Liu.
Old Man Liu’s family stood aside, clueless, clearly frightened by these individuals just before.
What hearing did Qin Ming have?
He heard distinctly as they were somewhat forcefully persuading, wishing to “purchase” the red grass Old Man Liu obtained from the Fire Bat Cave.
