Chapter 97: What he wants
Chapter 97: What he wants
The humming and happy woman slowly walked towards the gates, her strides quick and easy under the weight of the things she carried.
"It looks like we’ll be earning a lot today, Coco~" Lala giggled as she leaned her cheek against Coco’s cheek, pleased with how efficient her human friend was when it comes to making money.
The basket on Coco’s back was full, the potatoes within bumping and bouncing with each step, but it was the dead poison tiger laid over her shoulders that seemed to weigh the most, the animal’s massive form a heavy weight on her back.
Despite the heavyload, Coco’s face showed no sign of struggle; rather, she looked quite enthusiastic and eager, her eyes fixed on the gates ahead.
Coco didn’t answer Lala, instead, she raised her unbreakable hoe and tightened her grip on the tiger’s head, making sure that it wouldn’t fall off her shoulders.
Coco’s strong shoulders shrugged under the weight of the dead poison tiger, her body carrying the massive animal with surprising ease, even though the weight was obviously abnormal for an average human, she was walking as if she wasn’t carrying anything.
"Coco’s back!"
"She’s back!"
"Hughes is here! Get moving!"
"Why did she come back early today?"
"I have not received any money from my wife yet!"
"Marqui, hurry!"
"Husband, stand in line while I get the money!"
She ignored the stares, shouts, and whispers of those around her, focused on her task.
With how the villagers scrambled to get back to their home to get their money ready, Coco just knew right then and there that she would earn a bunch of money today as well.
She could already hear the coins jostling in her pockets, making the smile on her face widen.
"Oooh! Look at them, running around, Coco!" The garden fairy squealed before giggling to herself, "The ’first come first serve’ policy you told them has been kept in mind and now, they are all telling someone to stand in line!"
Coco could hear the excitement and satisfaction in Lala’s voice, making Coco feel giddy herself.
As they made their way to the butcher shop, Coco’s steps faltered as she noticed a familiar figure in the distance, her eyes fixating on the man’s approaching form.
The distance may have been quite large between them, but Coco’s eyes could pick out the familiar features of the man’s face, the strong jawline and the sharp eyes that she had come to know well.
She watched as he approached, her eyes never leaving his form.
Although, as she was waiting for the man to get to her, the door of the butcher shop opened which was immediately followed by a gasp.
"Coco!" Jacques exclaimed with a horrified expression on her face, "What are you carrying?! I thought I told you to not hunt anything heavy today because your wound might open up!"
Coco couldn’t react to the pink haired woman because she was suddenly pulled inside of the shop.
She barely had the chance to hauled the poison tiger off her shoulders and dropped it on the counter before she was forced to sit down in the middle of the shop.
"You’re carrying a basket, too? You just want to get hurt even more, don’t you?!" Jacques hissed, her eyebrows furrowed.
"It’s only potatoes—" Coco wanted to protect herself from getting scolded, but the butcher, who was holding a butchering knife behind his wife, simply shook his head as if he was giving Coco a warning.
Coco was forced to shut her mouth.
"How many times do I have to tell you that those wounds of yours aren’t something you should take lightly?" Jacques started off with a glare as she placed her hands on her hips, "How many times, huh? You were bleeding through your clothes last night and I’m sure you saw that—"
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
Thankfully, a knock on the door saved Coco from getting scolded further.
Jacques frowned, her eyes shifting from Coco to the door with a displeased expression, obviously not happy at the interruption.
"Wait here." The pink haired woman said to Coco, the tone on her voice dripping with warning.
"And put that basket down! The wounds on your side might be getting grazed because of that!" Jacques called out over her shoulders before touching the doorknob and opening the door.
A certain red haired mediator stood outside, his red eyes looking past Jacques for a moment and catched Coco’s confused gaze before he looked back at her, a look of contempt crossing his face.
"I need my wife." Zaque stated, his hands balling into fists by his side.
"She’s not available right now." Jacques responded and pulled the door closer to her, making the gap smaller to hide the blinking Coco by the chair.
"Not available?" Zaque pursed his lips and frowned, "I literally saw her just now."
".. Yes, and?" Jacques raised an eyebrow at him, "She’s injured so she needs to get back to her room as early as she can and have those wounds treated, if not, she might get an infection."
Zaque bit the inside of his mouth, holding back the harsh words that he wanted to say.
However, he knows that he was at fault and the one to be blamed for Coco’s injuries because if it wasn’t for him, she would have come back to the village safe and sound like how she came back for the past few days.
From what he had heard from Quizen, Coco looked roughed up last night and looked like she was heavily injured.
He didn’t have enough time to go to the inn and apologize to Coco in person because it was late, but when he tried to look for her that morning— she had already left.
"Please." Zaque mumbled as he forced his eyes down on the ground, "I want to apologize to her myself."
Jacques blinked in surprise, "Really..?"
"Really." Zaque assured her with a nod of his head, "That’s all I want."
