Chapter 83: SOMEONE YOU TRUST
Chapter 83: SOMEONE YOU TRUST
"They cook delicious food." Aristia said to Beatrix and Serina while they were waiting for the food to be served. "You’ll see."
"They?" Beatrix asked.
"Yes, Dahlia and her sister." She replied.
The door opened again and the sisters came out, each carrying a tray of food.
They placed them on the table and hesitated a little, before turning around and re-entering the kitchen.
"Let’s eat," Aristia said and picked up her spoon.
The others followed suit. They noticed they had been served food even though they hadn’t ordered any or given a number of dishes, but they kept silent, not knowing if that was how things were done.
But seeing that Aristia didn’t say anything, they guessed it was normal.
"It’s really good," Serina said with sparkling eyes. "Not as good as palace food, but it’s good."
"Told you." Aristia replied.
She had to recruit these two sisters to work in her restaurant, though they would need a bit of brushing up.
After the meal, Dahlia and Dorothy came to clear the table.
While Dorothy cleaned the table, Dahlia went forward to collect the payment. "That will be seventy copper coins."
Owen counted out coins and handed them to her.
"Let’s go." Aristia said, standing up.
Dahlia looked surprised. She thought the girl came to talk to them about working for her. So, they only came to eat. Nevertheless, she said nothing.
When Beatrix and Serina had entered the carriage, Aristia stopped.
"I have something to discuss with the sisters. You can go ahead with Adeline to explore the streets of the capital." Aristia handed the money pouch to Adeline. "Please, keep an eye on them for me."
"I will, princess." Adeline replied in a low voice. Even though she wasn’t very willing, this was something her princess had entrusted her with.
The Coachman closed the carriage door.
Aristia turned to him. "Lucas, take them around the streets. I still have something to do here. You can return in about an hour... or more."
Lucas nodded. "I understand, princess."
Aristia waved at Beatrix and Serina. "Enjoy yourselves."
They waved back from the window. Adeline too.
"Hyaah!" Lucas rode the carriage away.
"Come, Owen." Aristia beckoned, turning around to enter the restaurant.

"What about the little girl?" Dorothy asked in confusion when she didn’t see the girl or the people she came with.
"They left." Dahlia said.
"Oh." Dorothy replied.
Dahlia sighed. "I told you not to expect too much." How could she even think that a little girl was serious about something like that?
However, their words were swallowed back when the door opened again and the two turned around to see the little girl and the boy. The difference was that neither the lady, nor the two little girls had returned.
"I remember we still have something to discuss. I don’t go back on my word, neither do I give up easily and without a good fight." Aristia smiled.
Dahlia and Dorothy were stunned.
Minutes later, the four of them sat down on the table Aristia and the others had just exited.
Aristia sat in front of Dahlia, and Owen sat beside her, in front of Dorothy.
"So, what will it be?" Aristia asked.
"We thought about it and... we decided to accept your offer." Dahlia said.
Dorothy had already told her she agreed. She was the one who hadn’t made a choice. But now, she had decided. Since the little girl was serious, she was ready to give her offer a chance.
She still had some worries though, "But what will become of this place?" She looked around and gestured at the building. "And the children. If we both work for you, who will take care of the children?"
They had agreed because they barely made enough money to provide for themselves and the children, but who would take care of the children?
Dorothy had decided to come along with her to the restaurant because Aristia had said she would come on this day. She assigned the older children to take care of the rest of the children, but that couldn’t continue.
"That is not a problem. Don’t worry about the children. It’s negotiable. You can continue to work shifts."
"Huh?" They were clearly confused.
Owen was too. But by now, he had already gotten accustomed to her using strange and unfamiliar words. But somehow, he had a vague idea of what she meant.
"By shifts, I mean that you can have the exception of working for stipulated hours or days, just as you are doing. You can work for a day, and the other, the next. Or better still, you can choose to work from morning till noon, then return to take care of the children while the other takes over at the restaurant from noon till evening. Whichever one you choose." She explained as simply as she could so that they would understand.
Dahlia and Dorothy were amazed. Was this really a child? How could she be so knowledgeable and decisive?
They stared at each other and nodded. "We will take the second shift of taking turns each day."
[What? Do you have telepathy or something?] Aristia thought.
"Very well. And about the building..." She trailed off, "I would like to purchase it."
Then, Dahlia and Dorothy asked, stunned. "You want to purchase the building?"
"Yes." Aristia nodded.
"But why?" Dorothy asked.
They had wanted to sell the building some time ago and use the money to buy a better house. They would use the rest of the money to take care of themselves and the children and start a new business. But, no one wanted to purchase it.
"I have my reasons." Aristia replied simply. She turned to Owen while still addressing the sisters. "Since you’ve agreed, you have to sign an agreement."
On cue, Owen took out the parchment.
"What is this?" Dahlia asked.
"It is a confidentiality agreement. It also states the terms of service you just agreed to," she said.
"Can you read?" Aristia asked after some thought.
She guessed that as people doing business, the sisters at least could perform simple calculations. Just as most commoners, they couldn’t read. There was no one they could give this to to read for them or verify if it was really as she thought.
Aristia understood. It was somehow difficult. She would never sign a contract she couldn’t read or understand, and she didn’t expect them to do the same. But there was really nothing out of line in the contract. Everything was just as she said. Even so, it would be hard to convince them.
The sisters shared a look. "Yes, we can read." Dorothy replied.
Aristia was surprised. The next second, she smiled. "That’s great. There’s nothing wrong with the agreement. You can go through it and sign it. To convince you if you’re still not sure, is there anyone you know who can read and whom you trust that you can use as a witness?" She asked.
The sisters looked at each other and nodded hesitantly. "There is. We would like to tell him about it."
"Then, let’s get going." Aristia stood up.
"Now?" They asked.
"Of course," Aristia nodded.
The sisters locked the shop and led Aristia and Owen into another street. They entered an old building that looked like a bookstore. It was not very large and was of average size, but it gave off a calm, warm and comfortable feeling.
A handsome, kind looking man who looked to be in his early thirties, sat behind the counter and looked up upon hearing the door open. He had on a monocle and looked kind of scholarly.
"Oho! Dahlia, Dorothy. Good to see you here. How do you do? And the children too." He asked with a hearty chuckle. His laughter sounded rich and pleasant in the ears.
"We are still living," the sisters smiled. "How are you doing, Mister Bailey?"
"Still as strong as ever." Mister Bailey replied.
He noticed Aristia and Owen beside them.
"Are these new children?" He asked, glancing at them curiously before looking back at the sisters. "Always so kind. Don’t forget to come to me if you ever need any help. You barely have enough from the restaurant."
"No. These are not new children." Dahlia replied. "Actually, Mister Bailey, we came here today because we need your help."
Mister Bailey became worried. "What could be wrong? If it’s something I can help with, I will try my best."
"Nothing is wrong, uncle Pete. We just need to show you something." Dorothy said.
When he heard this, Mister Bailey visibly relaxed and even laughed. "If that’s what you need help with, then there’s no problem. Come, what do you want to show me?"
"This." Aristia spoke for the first time. "They need to confirm it."
Mister Bailey took the parchment from the little girl. He adjusted his monocle and bent over. "Alright, let me see."
He had just begun reading when surprise flashed across his eyes. He raised his head to glance at the little girl. Was she the one who wrote this?
He started to read it out loud. When he was done, he rolled up the parchment and handed it back to Aristia. Aristia collected it and handed it to Owen.
Mister Bailey shook his head. "Not bad." He stared at the child, a chuckle leaving his lips. She must be a noble child. He thought to himself.
Even though she wasn’t dressed extravagantly, her temperament was something that most children didn’t have at that age. There was just something about her. His eyes narrowed subtly.
