Chapter 66: DIDN’T GET ALONG

"Greetings Princess, Miss Lauren." The children either bowed or curtsied, according to their gender, and Aristia nodded.

"Princess, your dress is so beautiful." Someone praised immediately, setting off a wave of praises.

"And your shawl looks so soft. It’s definitely made from the highest quality fur." Praised another.

"Yes, so is Miss Lauren’s dress."

"Yes, they are both so beautiful."

"I’ve never seen such design before."

Despite knowing that the children just spewed honeyed words in a bid to please, Aristia smiled regardless. Lauren also smiled without a word. They weren’t lying though. Her dress was indeed beautiful.

Aristia was wearing a grey coloured gown that flowed down to her ankles, matching her hair. The neckline was round and made with transparent flowery lace which stretched on the the shoulders. It wasn’t a common design. In fact, none of them had seen a dress with such material used for the neckline.

The bottom part of the skirt was embroidered with delicate and detailed purple flowers, and the bottom edges were sewn with lace. The skirt flayed out at just the right amount.

The dress had long, non-puffy sleeves made with lace at the edges, and the chest area was embedded with pearls. It was a beautiful dress indeed.

Aristia took a step forward.

"I see we have a new addition to nobility," she said, moving towards the Marquis’s son, and Lauren followed along.

"Princess, haven’t you heard? He is the illegitimate son of Marquis Oswalt." Someone chipped in, following behind her.

These children were all of minor nobility and seemed very eager to suck up to her.

[And he’s the son of a Marquis and part of pure nobility, meaning he’s higher in status. He probably doesn’t know better because he wasn’t born into nobility so he doesn’t understand the hierarchy and is easily intimidated by these pompous brats. Or his etiquette tutor is just not doing a good job.] Aristia hummed to herself, making the children think she was agreeing to their words.

Aristia was unaware of this as she came to a halt in front of him, watching him slowly look up at her.

The children smiled in excitement and anticipation on seeing her approach the Marquis’s illegitimate son. Knowing the third princess, Wade would probably run home in tears, just like the other person.

The boy immediately noticed the signature hair color indicating royal lineage, and recalled the title the others had referred to her.

Remembering the lessons with his etiquette teacher when in front of a member of the Royal family, he bowed. "Greetings, Your Highness. May the blessings of Lord Nerin continue to shine upon you."

Aristia nodded in reply, "You may rise. I am Aristia Amberale, first child and daughter of the Imperial Prince and Princess, and the third Princess of Amberale. What is your name?"

"W-wade. My name is Wade, Your Highness." He answered.

"Hello Wade. My name is Lauren Anton, second child and first daughter of the Anton Duchy." Lauren smiled proudly, following after Aristia.

"Greetings, Miss Anton." Wade bowed at her too.

The children gasped. Did the Princess and the Duke’s daughter just introduce themselves to that boy?

Aristia was from the twenty-first century, so she found nothing wrong with introducing herself to someone she met for the first time. Lauren, who was the same age as her, followed after her and did the same.

"Come with me," Aristia gestured and turned around, causing Wade to look around to see if he was the one she was referring to.

Seeing that he was, he walked forward gingerly, standing awkwardly behind her.

Aristia didn’t say anything else, instead, she scouted the hall and stopped at Nova Kiran and a few familiar faces across the banquet hall.

She made her way over there with Lauren and a perplexed Wade in tow. Aristia wondered if she should take him to the group formed by her cousin brothers, Ivan and Liam, but decided against it. She almost had no doubt they would treat him fairly without discrimination, but even so, she wasn’t so sure about the other boys with them.

While they moved, Wade kept staring at her, trying to figure out if she was trying to make fun of him like the others or if she was really curious.

’Curious?’ he didn’t think so. Who hadn’t heard about the third princess? Her approaching him wasn’t anything good. He took a deep breath, steadying himself for whatever he was going to face while ignoring the envious and resentful gazes of the children they were leaving behind.

He looked around the banquet hall, trying to find his father, but all he saw was unfamiliar faces. His eyes roamed and landed on his father’s wife, but he averted his eyes immediately. She wouldn’t help him.

"Third princess is here," Nova Kiran, the second child and daughter of Marquis Kiran, smiled and curtsied, making the others turn in the direction she was looking at and curtsey too. "And so is Laura."

Lauren was her paternal cousin as she was the daughter of Alistair Anton, who was her father, Wesley Kiran’s younger sister.

"Who might this be?" A girl with scarlet red hair and light blue eyes asked curiously. She was Paige Kiran, the first child of Marquis Kiran. She was eight years old.

Her sister Nova Kiran was six years old and had blood orange hair and emerald green eyes.

Of course, she knew who the boy was judging from his features.

"This is Wade Oswalt, sister Paige." Lauren introduced simply as they all were aware of Marquis Oswalt’s son from another woman who was not his wife.

"Hello, Wade." Paige Kiran smiled politely at him and the others followed suit in greeting him even though most were still skeptical about him.

"H-hello." Wade stuttered out timidly.

[Eh, why is it only girls here?] Aristia thought. There was not a single boy in the group, but Aristia couldn’t take him to another group.

She was thinking of a topic that would make him comfortable and not awkward standing in the midst of girls, and not a touchy subject for him too. However, she didn’t need to think too much as Nova Kiran spoke up.

"Have you ever seen the King, young master Wade?"

Wade looked up in confusion, feeling startled at the sudden question, then he shook his head.

"N-no, I have never seen the King."

He hadn’t expected to be asked that when normally, he would have been bombarded with insults as soon as other children met him, just like earlier with the group of aristocrat children. He also hadn’t expected that she would call him ’young master’. The other children just referred to him as ’son of a lowly prostitute’, or ’son of a mistress’.

"Oh. Then, you’ll get to see him today. He is also attending the banquet." Nova Kiran whispered as if it was a secret.

"Really? The king is coming today?" Wade asked, almost excitedly.

To most of the young boys in the Kingdom, the King was someone to look up to. The Grand Duke was also greatly respected among the people. To put it simply, the people respected all the members of the royal family.

However, Aristia was beginning to feel she wasn’t included in that list.

"Yes, we are in the King’s palace." Lauren felt the need to remind Wade just in case he forgot or had no idea.

And just like that, it felt as if he had been integrated into their group and he became a little less shy.

Children didn’t need to worry much about how to start a conversation. They could easily pick a random topic that would be followed by the rest of the children in their group.

However, their conversation was interrupted by a booming voice.

"Entering His Royal Majesty King Fedor Amberale, Her Royal Majesty Queen Rowaine Amberale, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Ivan Amberale, and Her Royal Highnesses, the first and second Princesses Beatrix and Serina." The guard announced the entrance of the Royal family in a loud voice to all.

All conversations in the banquet hall ceased as the gathered aristocrats bowed in reverence to the Royal Family.

"Greetings to The Royal Family of the Kingdom of Amberale. May the blessings of Lord Nerin continue to shine upon you."

"You may rise," the King commanded after he and his family had taken their places in the rows of thrones placed on top of an elevated platform.

The bowing aristocrats rose and the king waved his hand, "Continue." And the chatter continued.

Few minutes after they arrived at the banquet hall, Beatrix and Serina got down from their seats after whispering to their mother, and made their way towards Aristia.

Meanwhile, while Aristia was listening to the conversation her group was having, her eyes happened to land on another person among the group.

[Silver hair and sparkling blue eyes. Her appearance matches the description of a character in the book. Could she be...] Aristia held in a gasp.
