Chapter 151: A DIVORCE
Chapter 151: A DIVORCE
Catherine returned to the Mansion immediately after the tea party.
"Welcome back, mama," Aristia and Alaric greeted with smiles.
Catherine smiled back at them.
Her lady-in-waiting, Melanie, who had not gone with her to the Oswalt Mansion, was also outside.
"Welcome back, Cathy." Wilson smiled as he helped her from the carriage like a gentleman. His brows furrowed when he noticed her expression.
They headed inside the mansion. Coincidentally, their children had been on their breaks from their classes but had now returned to continue their lesson.
Wilson followed her to their bedroom. Melanie closed the door and didn’t enter their chambers, giving the couple privacy.
"Did something happen at the tea party?" Wilson asked, watching his wife go to sit on the bed.
"Marchioness Oswalt is getting a divorce," Catherine stated calmly.
Wilson raised his brows. "She hasn’t informed the Marquis yet." He said it so surely. There was no way he wouldn’t know if she had told anyone.
Catherine nodded to confirm his words. "She hasn’t. She seems to want to talk to the king first."
Wilson nodded. He understood the reason behind Marchioness Charlotte’s decision. If Fedor agreed, then the divorce was sure to happen.
"And that maid," Catherine began, thinking of the servant she had seen. "She’ll soon reveal it."
Wilson agreed with her words. They knew a lot more than the persons involved.
But as always, "That’s none of our concern."
"I’ll tell Rowaine about Charlotte’s decision." Catherine said, then she called for Melanie to assist her in changing her clothes.
Rowaine, as the queen, couldn’t leave the palace for a tea party. So she had no idea about what happened.
Meanwhile, Aristia was in her last class for the day; Arts.
She sat in the sprawling art room of the Grand Duke’s Mansion, a room dedicated to fostering her artistic talents under the guidance of Lady Agnes, her arts instructor.
[Lady Agnes’s words, not mine.]
The wide room was adorned with masterpieces and various art tools.
"Good morning, Lady Agnes," Aristia greeted as her instructor entered the room.
"Good morning, Princess Aristia," Lady Agnes replied, her voice calm and collected, but slightly gentle. "Today, we shall delve into the art of landscape painting."
Lady Agnes began the lesson by discussing the fundamental principles of composition, light, and perspective in landscape art. She gestured towards a large canvas set up at the front of the room that depicted a tranquil countryside scene bathed in the soft hues of dawn.
"As artists," Lady Agnes spoke, "we must capture not just the visual beauty, but the essence and mood of the landscape. We must capture not just what we see, but what we feel. Let the essence of the landscape speak through your brushstrokes."
Aristia nodded. Her arts tutor really liked art. She almost acted like an art fanatic.
"Now, let us begin," Lady Agnes said, motioning for Aristia to approach her easel and begin sketching. Aristia selected her paints and brushes.
When Lady Agnes stood near Aristia, she observed silently for a moment before speaking.
"Your composition is strong, princess Aristia," her voice carried a hint of approval. "However, consider how you might enhance the play of light in the foreground. It will bring more depth to your painting."
Aristia nodded to show she understood. [Should I start painting? It’s been three months already. That should be enough to make it seem like I practiced and improved drastically.]
She improved the painting a little bit and Lady Agnes nodded in approval.
Lady Agnes smile turned warmer, and her eyes reflected pride in her student’s progress.
"Your Highness seems to have a natural talent for painting. With more guidance, you will become more proficient in painting." She praised, her eyes shining. This was the first time one of her pupils had ever exhibited such talent in painting. She would boast about it to the other ladies.
She really appreciated art, and she appreciated the talents behind the art even more.
Now that the third princess showed exceptional talent for a child her age, Lady Agnes could almost envision her skill in the future.
’The third princess seems to have Viscountess Hemsworth’s talent!’ Lady Agnes thought excitedly.
Viscountess Roxanne Hemsworth was her role model, and knowing that one of the Viscountess’ descendants had inherited her talent, Lady Agnes became even more excited.
All hesitation and uncertainty about Aristia disappeared and Lady Agnes began to look forward to their classes together.
Aristia held back a shiver at the excited look in her tutor’s eyes. [She really loves anything artsy, humans included.]
"The class is over, your highness. I will see you in two days." Agnes packed up her things and left.
Aristia nodded and bade her goodbye, then she gathered her materials, preparing to leave since the class had ended. The sun was just about to set.

The next day.
Catherine went to the palace to meet Rowaine. She told her about Charlotte’s decision.
"A divorce?"
Rowaine’s brows knitted, her hand holding her teacup stopping halfway. The next second, she continued her action and dipped her tea, giving off elegance and grace.
She mulled over Catherine’s words.
In her kingdom, divorce wasn’t held as badly as it was in Amberale but it was still frowned upon.
"Mm." Catherine nodded in confirmation of her question and sipped her tea.
Rowaine sighed, "She’s coming to the palace, I assume."
"She said so." Catherine replied. "She wants to meet brother in-law, but she is more likely to seek an audience with you."
"I see," Rowaine hummed. "I will talk to her..." They continued to drink tea, shifting from talking about Charlotte to talking about other things.
[A divorce?]
Aristia carefully got up from her hiding spot. She didn’t need to put much effort into eavesdropping. Her aura made it easy.
[I don’t know if this is a good decision or not.] It was hard to say because the Marquis had cheated. Charlotte was the one wronged.
But would the Marchioness really be happy with her decision or would she be even more miserable? She headed back to where her cousins and brother were, wondering if she should talk to Marchioness Charlotte.
She pushed that thought away. [Aunt is already about to do that. Let her take care of it then. Besides, it would be strange if I did so. I’m just six years old. Plus, Charlotte would wonder where I even heard of such a thing.]
If that happened, it would affect Catherine as Charlotte would wonder why she would disclose such matters she had told her in confidence to a six year old child.
Thinking back to what she had just heard, Aristia sighed.
She had known that something was going on the moment Catherine returned from the Oswalt mansion.
She had only heard bits of conversation between her parents. Catherine had said that she would be heading to the palace during breakfast. Thankfully, she had no classes today so she had requested to go with her mother to the palace. If not, then how would she have known about this?
Aristia knew how much weight that divorce held in this world, especially to the women. She didn’t know about Charlotte’s family situation, but she had heard about their financial status. They were not wealthy merchants and were just average.
Neither Aristia nor the other nobles knew that Charlotte’s parents were rich, wealthy merchants.
The ’Charlotte’s family’ they knew as average in wealth was Charlotte’s grandfather who had basically raised her.
Seeing that her grandfather who she lived with wasn’t very wealthy, they didn’t even bother to find out about her parents who didn’t reside in the kingdom.
But Charlotte’s parents had always provided her with everything she needed ever since she was little. From food and clothing, to tutors. They made sure she lacked nothing, just as their other children even though they couldn’t be with her.
Only the royal family was aware of this. It wasn’t widely known.
That was why Aristia had told Charlotte to use her husband’s wealth and power, after all, the Marquis was powerful. Why would she let that go to waste? Charlotte could also save some money from the allowance she was given.
But she had miscalculated. She hadn’t considered the fact that Charlotte deeply loved her husband. Even though she could enjoy his money and try to forget him, could she really?
Would she be able to live everyday seeing the person whom she loved, and being constantly reminded that he had cheated on her? That he didn’t love her back.
That alone was enough to cause her a lot of emotional pain and heartbreak. She had to endure seeing his face everyday, and the face of the child he had with another woman. Charlotte probably couldn’t handle that. She couldn’t take it anymore.
Aristia couldn’t blame the marchioness and would never blame her. [I could get uncle Fedor to make Marquis Oswalt compensate Charlotte with land and money.] She thought as she left quietly.
A thought lingered at the back of her mind. [What a pity. She would have been a great mother to Wade.]
