Chapter 33: Pretense

Since his attack landed cleanly on Idah, he expected Idah to have died from the attack, but he already knew Idah’s capability. He knew that his former master would not be done in by an attack of such caliber.

He needed to prepare himself once more for an assault from Idah, he might just have angered Idah with his recent attack but he did not care about what emotion Idah currently had.

his mind was focused on the task that was given to him.

"I might have forgotten the destructive power that you possess. But now I fully remember. Thank you for reminding me to always put my guard up even against my partners’ Idah said as he walked towards Ottis.

Not much damage was done to Idah, but Ottis noticed that, Idah’s left hand seemed to have been broken from its joint

The attack would have one-shotted Idah under normal circumstances, but Idah was not naïve and unexperienced. He always had a thin layer of defense around him and before the attack met him, he used a blue energy to cloak himself.

That was a small victory for Ottis, he knew how sword users required balance to perform their sword attack and he just reduced the balance of a great swordsman.

If he was a Dog, he was sure to get a treat from his master if he heard his feat.

"I did not want to attack you, but it has been engraved in my very bone to attack you at all times. Even merely talking to you is causing me so much pain.

You have to help me Idah. I need to be free and return back to you. Where I truly belong." Ottis said with a visible worry and fear in his face.

Idah paused upon hearing and seeing Ottis. He was confused now. Should he dispatch of a ridiculously strong gang member or he should try to break him out of the necromancer’s control.

He had never heard of something like that ever happening, but from what Ottis was telling him. it seemed to be possible to achieve such a thing.

With his sword drawn and he being in a battle-ready position. He asked Ottis "Tell me how, or even give me a hint. How do I rescue you from the grasp of that necromancer kid."

Ottis looked at Idah with fake worry and replied "I know it, the way to break me free but I can’t disclose it.

I’m bound by my master to keep it as a secret. I hope you understand me when I say that.

But To be brief and give you a possible hint, freeing me has to do with me being away."

"Away from what? Away from who? Tell me. Why don’t you tell me?" Idah asked, as he was now curious about how he would rescue a member of his gang.

For someone that was usually cautious it was surprising to see him being deceived by an undead, but the thing was that the deceit was carried out almost flawlessly.

"Why am I stressing myself on your case. You are already dead and there is nothing that I can do about it.

Maybe it was my optimistic side that saw a way to save you, but now that I truly think of it. Al that you have been trying to do was to stall me.

Maybe to buy time for your master to escape or to buy time for reinforcement to arrive but it does not matter now.

What matters now is that you deceived me and decommissioned my hand. It is only right that I decommission your hands and put you out of your false misery." Idah said, tearing down the web of lies that was starting to be spun around him.

Whether Idah was deceived or not, Ottis did buy more time for Tim. Now all he needed to do was to survive.

To survive an onslaught on his live by a sword user. Luckily for Ottis, Idah was not a magic knight.

If Idah was a magic knight his fate would have been sealed long ago.

Getting into another unusual stance, Idah readied himself and dashed towards Ottis with intent to kill.

It was never easy to come across spells in Fantasiaa because most of the times, people hoard and sometimes destroy spells.

Those at the higher levels never shared spells with those at the low levels, the mana users at the lower stage of power always had to struggle to find spells that was suitable for them.

The other option was to loot spells, and extort spell scrolls from people or even to get them from the black market.

Ottis and his previous gang got a major portion of their spells from looting. That was how he was able to acquire so many spells.

"Wind Wall." Ottis summoned the wall of wind once again, but Idah was already expecting something like that from him.

"Sky Piercer." He said coldly, as he neared Ottis. Releasing a thin blue line that made waste of the solid wind wall.

With the wall now gone, Ottis was about to cast another skill, but Idah did something that Ottis could have never imagined.

He threw his sword with speed.

Shocked by the very nature of Idah’s attack Ottis raised his 2 hands to try and deflect the path of the sword but the sword just pierced into both of Ottis hands and pinned him against a nearby tree.

BAM

A blackish blood spilled from Ottis hands. He was in a bind. His two hands were pinned by the attack of Idah and he could not cast any skill because he needed to regulate the flow of mana within him, to be able to cast a skill.

He was in a tight situation. Now his life was in great danger but all he could think of was how to buy time as instructed by his master.

Idah stopped right in front of Ottis that was pinned to the tree and placed a dagger on his neck.

"Any last words." Idah asked coldly.

’RETURN.’ A simple yet powerful message entered Ottis direct being.
