Mystique Soul: A Cultivator's Flame -
Chapter 59
Chapter 59: Chapter 59
The Feng Clan was once again buzzing with life again. The stadium was filled even more. One person, the only reason they are here, was Feng Jiao Xue.
"700 bronze coins for Feng Jiao Xue!" A man called.
"10 silver coins for Feng Lianxu!"
"Are you guys insane, you saw Feng Yuxiao. Her marksmanship is beyond that of her cultivation stage! Boss, I’m staking this month’s wage! 200 silver coins!"
"Ahaha, dude your wife is going to kill you!"
"10 gold coins on Feng Jiao Xue. Who knows, she is their daughter after all"
Everyone was betting one after another. Even a beggar looking man with a grizzly beard, unkept hair and a single rice on the corner of his lips. Dressed up like a brown fuzzy bear. "Ahaha, 1,000 gold coins on the young lass that managed to almost make a full break through on her fight!" The gruff guy betted.
"Hey, old man, are you dreaming?"
"Don’t make a mess here you old fart. Do you even have enough money to pay for your loss?"
"D@mn, don’t tell me I’m poorer than a beggar?"
"Ahaha, tadpoles in the small ponds can’t see beyond the small puddle of water" The old ’beggar’ threw a bag of gold on the table silencing those that heard anything.
"F@ck, I am poorer than a beggar?!" The last speaker asked with a wide eye at the heaps of gold coins thrown.
"Gggrrroooowwwww! Ggroooohhhh! Ggggoooorrruuhhh!"
The sound of the beast once again rang in the entire mountain.
"Cultivators and magicians, take your seats and watch your belongings! Things are going to get even more heated! Keep your eyes sharp and your ear on the ground! We all know what we’re here for!" The announcer excitedly called lifting the spirits of the viewers.
"Let’s do this already!"
"Stop the chatter and start the slaughter!!!!!"
"Wait? Whose the first match?"
"Was it even announced?"
"Who cares, my husband will annihilate this competition."
"Feng Yuxiao! You have to win! My happiness depends on you!"
"Man, you’re really brave to bet your entire wage on a woman and still say that!"
"Feng Jiao Xue if you win, I’ll marry you!"
"Ahaha, are you insane? Do you want to barf every time you see that face up close?"
"You blind bats! Who cares about the looks?1 It’s the prestige and power that matters?" A drunk cultivator laughed earning a couple of booes and insults.
"Feng Jiao Xue, you’re my new idol! Please win! My tuition fee depends on you!"
Various commentaries emerged from the crowd excitedly. The stadium was full of energy, even the audience were going against each other for whoever they were rooting for. A sea of restless viewers surging through the crowd as the anticipation reached its peak.
Wagers had been placed and bets locked in! So, now all that remained was the clash of talent and will!
"It seems that everyone is as excited as the chatter bees! Let’s hear who you want to win!" The announcer grinned as he jumped from his table to the battle area.
Hair as fiery as his energy, and his robe even redder than his crimson hair with a bright giant grin on his thick lips, his cheeks hugging his cheek bones, brows almost reaching the side of his hairline. And blazing, passionate eyes roaming the crowd.
"Those who want our mighty, brave and ever the penny pincher muscle head of our clan....!!!!!!"
"Hey, don’t tear our clan’s pride faces ahahah!" One of the Feng disciples called out, gaining a round of laughter.
"Alright, then I won’t say a name..." The announcer grinned and pointed his mic towards a group of disciples in white robes with red phoenix embroidery.
"Brother Feng Lianxu!!!!" they immediately bit the bait causing more laughter to erupt in the arena.
"Hey, shhh!" The announcer acted as if silencing the group. "We can’t tear our own member’s face down" he laughed while the group booed at him while the crowd burst into laughter again.
"Brother Lianxu, marry me and you won’t worry about money again! I’ll take on ten odd jobs for you!"
"You Feng people! Is it alright to embarrass your senior brother like this? hahaha"
"Lianxu, I didn’t know you were such a cheapskate next time we drink, it’s on your senior brother!" Even the other members of the Feng Clan joined in on the fun tearing the face down on their own without insult, just good natured fun.
"Ahaha, alright, alright. Let’s not embarrass our contender even more before he combust without ever having the pleasure to face one of our clan’s top beauties!" The announcer grinned.
"So, those who support Feng Lianxu! Wave your feet!!!!" The announcer joked yet some of the crowds actually waved their feet up from their seats while others simply cheered.
"Lianxu! Lianxu! Lianxu!"
"Feng Lianxu! Win this one!"
"Penny-pincher! I’ll give you half my winnings if you win!"
"I’ll give you my first born daughter"
"Mom!!!!!" The girl beside that woman shrieked indignantly. "Brother Lianxu! I’m yours even if you lose!"
"Whooo! Isn’t that muscle head more popular than me? Hey, clearly, I’m more handsome. What do you say ladies?" The announcer striked a pose earning jeers and laughter.
"Ahaha, okay, okay" He grinned. "Now, the clan’s number one shooter! The ever so graceful and charming, Feng Yuxiao... raise your... hands if you’re her fans!!!!"
"Feng Yuxiao, my goddess!!!!"
"Feng Yuxiao! Feng Yuxiao! Feng Yuxiao!"
"Miss Yuxiao! I’m rooting for you!"
"My goddess shoot them down!"
"Yuxiao, I’m your number one fan!"
"Everyone seems to be all hyped up!" The announcer bounced all over the stage. "Then without further ado..... our match is up! Feng Yuxiao again Feng Lianxu!!!!"
"Wooooo!!!!!"
"Feng Yuxiao!" "Feng Lianxu!" "Feng Yuxiao!" "Feng Lianxu!"
"Yuxiao, take down that brute!"
"Feng Lianxu, don’t beat her too much!"
"Feng Yuxiao, I’m rooting for you!"
"Brother Lianxu, you can do it!"
"Goddess, you can win this!"
Amidst the cheers of the crowd, the contestants took their sides.
On one side of the platform, Feng Yuxiao stood with an air of elegance, her icy blue robes embroidered with waves that seemed to ripple under the sunlight. A longbow rested in her grip, its polished and beautifull carved wood gleaming, the string taut and ready to release devastation. Her sharp gaze scanned her opponent calm yet unwavering.
"Brother Lianxu, looks like you jinxed us at the start of the tournament" She smiled a friendly and charming grin. Serene, peaceful and yet determined.
"Looks like it, Yuxiao’er. Out of respect, I won’t go easy on you" Feng Lianxu replied with a fiery grin.
In contrast to Feng Yuxiao, he radiated fiery determination. His scarlet robes swayed as he adjusted his grip on his longsword, its edge glistening with a faint ember-like glow. Sparks flickered between his fingers as he channeled his fire element, his entire presence exuding a relentless heat.
The announcer, standing at the edge of the arena, raised his hand. "The first match, Feng Yuxiao versus Feng Lianxu! Archery against swordsmanship! Water against fire! Let the battle commence! Wooohooo! Is this going to be a fiery battle?! Or one as mighty as the encompassing wave?!!!!"
A thunderous cheer erupted as the two opponents leaped into action.
Feng Yuxiao was the first to move. With a sharp inhale, she nocked an arrow and fired in a blink of an eye. A streak of blue light shot across the arena, heading straight for Feng Lianxu’s chest.
But he was faster. With a pivot, his blade slashed upward and ignited flames along its edge, cleaving the arrow in half mid-air.
"Ssshhhhh" Smoke spread as fire and water collided, dissolving into the wind as Lianxu launched forward his body a blur of motion.
Yuxiao’s eyes narrowed. "Tsk."
She jumped back, water coalescing around her feet, forming an ice platform beneath her as she glided across the battlefield. Another arrow, then another, each one sharper and swifter than the last, yet each one barely missing its mark as Lianxu dodged with expert precision.
"She’s like a phantom! Her movement technique is insane! I can barely follow her movements!" someone in the crowd exclaimed
"Feng Lianxu! Close the distance!" another voice urged.
"Goddess, turn him into a porcupine!!!!"
"Lianxu, smash that annoying bow!!!"
"Yuxiao, behind you!"
Feng Lianxu grit his teeth as Feng Yuxiao managed to dodge just in time. He knew. If he couldn’t get within striking range, this battle was as good as lost. The longer he let Yuxiao dictate the fight, the more exhausted he’d become avoiding her relentless barrage.
"Infernal Step!"
Flames exploded beneath his feet as he propelled himself forward, his sword igniting in a fiery arc as he slashed toward her.
Yuxiao twirled mid-air, dodging at the last moment, but she felt the heat graze her robes. Too close.
She landed swiftly, drawing another arrow, her fingers flowing with the grace of an artist. But just as she pulled back the string...
Boom!
Feng Lianxu had anticipated her movement, slamming his foot down, causing a burst of flames to erupt from beneath the ground. The heatwave hit her first, throwing off her balance, and in that split second.
He struck.
A sword edge pressed against her throat.
The crowd went silent then cheers!!!!
"Wooooo!!! I won! I won! I won’t be any poorer than a beggar anymore!"
"Brother Lianxu, that was awesome!!!"
"Goddess, it’s alright you still managed to get to the final rounds!!!"
Feng Yuxiao stiffened, her fingers still gripping her bowstring, but she did not release the arrow. She had lost.
The announcer raised his hands. "Victory goes to Feng Lianxu!"
The stadium exploded into cheers and groans, depending on which side of the bets the spectators had placed.
"Feng Lianxu really pulled through!"
"Did you see that fire step? He forced her into close combat!"
"Damn, I lost my silver!"
"That was insane! I thought she had it!"
"My bet on Lianxu was worth it, haha!"
Feng Yuxiao sighed, stepping back and lowering her bow. There was no shame in losing a hard-fought battle, especially against an opponent who had earned his victory. She gave a respectful nod.
Feng Lianxu exhaled, wiping the sweat from his brow before offering a small smirk. "That was close."
Yuxiao huffed but with a happy smile. "Next time, it won’t be."
The crowd roared once more as the two exited the stage. The announcer raised his voice again.
"The first match was incredible, but this is only the beginning! Up next, the second round of the tournament! Stay in your seats, because things are just getting started!"
The anticipation grew once more as eyes turned toward the next battle. The stadium buzzed with energy, and in the shadows of the grandstands, Feng Jiao Xue sat, watching.
Her expression was unreadable, but there was a sharp gleam in her gaze.
