Chapter 23: A Fairy in the Darkness
Liang Feng had decided for the groups to camp out for a few days to rest and gather them selves when he noticed how the other’s is not in a correct mental state.
Of course, there was those that thought it was too dangerous but he was their employer and chose to keep quite.
The groups had all settled for the night after a long day.
Them, a soft sound caught everyone’s attention.
Beneath the canopy of ancient trees, the world felt hushed, as if nature itself waited in reverence. In the corner of the clearing, a woman sat cross-legged atop a smooth, weathered stone. Her robe, a rich cerulean blue, flowed like liquid moonlight around her, its edges embroidered with faint patterns of lotus blossoms that seemed to shimmer with each subtle shift.
Her hair, black as midnight, cascaded in loose waves down her back, bound only by a single silver pin shaped like an unfurling lotus. It gleamed faintly, catching the moon’s glow, a tiny beacon in the vast darkness. Her skin bore the clarity of polished jade, smooth and unmarred, exuding an unearthly calm. Long, delicate fingers, pale and steady, cradled a flute carved from lustrous white jade, its surface cool to the touch and etched with swirling runes that seemed to pulse faintly with their own inner rhythm.
The sound was tender at first, a fragile thread of music weaving into the stillness. It was a sound that painted the air, soft and crystalline, like drops of dew sliding from the edge of a petal. The notes danced lightly, rising and falling like the flutter of a butterfly’s wings. Then came a deeper tone, rich and resonant, like the swell of an ocean wave crashing in the distance.
Her eyes, half-closed, glimmered with a reflective gray, their depths holding both secrets and sorrows. They seemed to drink in the moonlight, making it impossible to tell where her thoughts wandered. Shadows played gently across her features, sculpting her into something beyond mortal beauty, like a figure from an ancient tale.
The music was mournful yet captivating, each note a drop of sorrow spilling into the night. It was a song of longing, of whispered regrets and distant memories. The high notes rose like stars ascending the heavens, delicate and fleeting, while the lower tones curled around the listeners like the embrace of a cold mist.
For those who heard it, the world seemed to fade. They could feel the cool night air brushing their skin, but it was the music that consumed their senses. It painted vivid images in their minds. A lone figure standing on a desolate mountain peak, gazing at a vast, empty horizon; a single petal falling into a still pond, its ripples spreading endlessly outward.
The flute’s sound rose higher, trembling with raw emotion, before plunging into a deep, resonant tone that felt like the earth itself was sighing. It wasn’t just a sound; it was an experience, one that burrowed into the soul and awakened memories long buried.
As the melody began to fade, the final note lingered, hanging in the air like a fragile thread, before it too dissolved into silence. The woman lowered the flute, her eyes closed, a faint tear glistening on her cheek as though even she had been swept away by the sorrow she had summoned.
Around her, the clearing remained still, the world holding its breath as if afraid to disturb the echoes of her hauntingly beautiful lament.
"Clap... Clap... Clap, clap, clap" From one person followed by another and then another, they all clapped.
The Lady smiled before moving back to her tenth.
"Be careful of that woman, Jiao Xue" Huang Jin De warned.
"Oh?" Feng Jiao Xue raised her brow, one legs hanging off a branch languidly as she leaned on the truntk, a bitten apple on her hand while Yin Xiao was soundly sleeping beneath the tree.
"What makes that one interesting?" She wondered while Huang Jin De sat on a lutos position by the pond in the space ring.
"She’s dangerous" He replied gravely making Feng Jiao Xue’s relax posture falter.
"Strange" She muttered.
Though she is not very adept to distinguishing threats here yet, most the adventurers here have a certain stench of bloodlust. It just clings to you, tainting you.
"Can you sense what level she is?" She asked.
"No, I can not even tell if she is a magician or a cultivator. Either she has a special ability to hide herself, an aritifact that hides it for her or her level is too high to see. From what I can sense though, she is dangerous so please, be cautios with that woman" Huang Jin De patiently replied.
"Noted" Feng Jiao Xue replied before looking at the moon. In this clearing, the skies are clear.
The leaves from the trees framing the beautiful view. The moon hung high, its silver light spilling like liquid silk, soft and unbroken, illuminating the world with a serene glow. Around it, stars glimmered like finely cut jewels scattered across a deep velvet sky, their light fragile yet eternal. Each one seemed to pulse faintly, as though breathing in harmony with the night, their reflections caught faintly in the dewdrops on leaves.
Above, the canopy of trees framed the celestial view, their darkened silhouettes swaying gently in the cool breeze. The leaves, tinged with a faint shimmer from the moonlight, created intricate patterns that seemed to dance whenever the wind stirred. Between their gaps, beams of silver filtered through, casting soft, shifting pools of light on the ground below. The contrast of shadow and illumination felt alive, as if nature itself was painting its own masterpiece.
The gentle rustle of the leaves only added to the beauty, a soft murmur that harmonized with the stillness of the stars, making the moment feel as if it had been woven from a dream.
"Xiao Xue... are you okay?" Huang Jin De asks in concern from the storage space, frows furrowed in concern noticing how her state of mind is different ever since she saw whoever she saw in that mist. Unfortunately, in that world, he was in an nconscious state, recuperating so he barely knows what happened to her then.
"Fine" Feng Jiao Xue replied sharply, the apple she was holding turning into a mush at the sudden added prassure making her frown and flick her hand away
